We'll explore what makes this U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) park a standout choice, from its well-maintained facilities to its accessibility, all with the local camper in mind.
Hurricane Creek Recreation is conveniently located at Hurricane Camp Rd, Cadiz, KY 42211, USA. For those of us living in Kentucky, Cadiz is a familiar name, nestled in a region renowned for its beautiful lakes and outdoor activities. What makes this location particularly appealing is its accessibility. As one delighted visitor pointed out, it's an "easy drive from Nashville," which for many Kentuckians, particularly those in the western and central parts of the state, translates to a straightforward and enjoyable journey. While the exact distance from major Kentucky cities varies, the generally well-maintained roads leading to the campground ensure a smooth arrival, even for larger recreational vehicles. The setting itself, off Hurricane Camp Road, suggests a peaceful, natural environment, promising a genuine escape from the hustle and bustle, yet remaining within reach for a weekend getaway or an extended vacation. The park’s commitment to maintaining its infrastructure, including recently paved roads, further enhances the accessibility and overall experience for all visitors.
Hurricane Creek Recreation offers a robust set of services designed to make your camping experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The focus here is clearly on providing high-quality, practical amenities for both RV and tent campers.
- Spacious Campsites: Both back-in and pull-through sites are available to accommodate various vehicle sizes and preferences.
- Full Hookups: Each site boasts both 30 and 50 amp electric service, ensuring ample power for all your needs.
- Individual Water Hookups: A standout feature, as water is available directly at each campsite, a convenience not always found in COE parks.
- Picnic Tables: Every site is equipped with a new, sturdy picnic table for outdoor dining and gathering.
- Dedicated Smaller Table: An additional, smaller table is provided at each site, ideal for food preparation or, as one guest suggested, for cleaning fish.
- Well-Maintained Roads: The main road within the campground has recently been paved to an impressive eight-inch thickness, ensuring smooth access throughout the park.
- Updated Site Features: Campsites have been updated with new wood beams, enhancing their appearance and functionality.
The true appeal of Hurricane Creek Recreation lies in its well-thought-out features and highlights, which cater directly to the desires of local campers in Kentucky looking for quality outdoor experiences. These elements collectively contribute to a highly positive and comfortable stay.
- Large, Level Campsites: A frequently praised aspect, the "nice large level sites" are a significant advantage, particularly for RVers. Level sites simplify the setup process, ensuring a comfortable and stable base for your recreational vehicle, and are equally beneficial for tent campers seeking an even sleeping surface. This attention to site quality indicates a commitment to visitor comfort.
- Excellent Road Maintenance: The recent paving of the main road, described as "8 in thick" and "really nice," is a major highlight. Well-maintained roads within a campground not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also provide a smoother and safer experience for driving, biking, or walking, especially for those with larger RVs or trailers. This investment in infrastructure speaks volumes about the park's dedication to quality.
- Updated Site Amenities: The inclusion of "new wood beams" at each site and a "nice new picnic table" elevates the camping experience. These small but significant updates show that the park is actively investing in improving the individual campsites, making them more inviting and functional for guests.
- Unique Individual Water Hookups: A rare and highly appreciated feature is the availability of "water on each site." Many COE parks require campers to use communal water spigots, so having direct water access at your campsite is a significant convenience for cooking, cleaning, and general use, enhancing both comfort and hygiene.
- Comprehensive Electric Service: With both "30 and 50 amp service" available on all sites, Hurricane Creek Recreation caters to a wide range of RVs, from smaller travel trailers to large motorhomes. This ensures that campers have reliable power for all their appliances and devices.
- Versatile Site Selection: The "nice mix of back in and pull through sites" offers flexibility for campers, allowing them to choose a site that best suits their vehicle and personal preference for setup and egress.
- Proximity to Natural Beauty: While not explicitly detailed in the reviews, being a COE park near Cadiz strongly implies proximity to Lake Barkley or Kentucky Lake, offering abundant opportunities for fishing, boating, and other water-based recreation, a major draw for Kentucky outdoor enthusiasts.
- Dedicated Fish Cleaning Table: The presence of a "separate smaller table which I'm guessing is for cleaning fish" highlights a thoughtful amenity for anglers, a common pastime in this region, showcasing the park's understanding of its visitors' needs.

Hurricane Creek Recreation Reviews
Nice large level sites. The roads are maintained,🚧 The main road here has just been paved. And it's really nice. And 8 in thick. That's going to last a good while.👍🏻The sites are updated with new wood beams. Each site has a nice new picnic table as well as a separate smaller table which I'm guessing is for cleaning fish 🤔This is one of the first COE parks I've been to that has water 💦 on each site. There is a nice mix of back in and pull through sites. All of them have 30 and 50 amp service⚡There is a cell phone tower right next to this property but it does not have my carrier on it, T-Mobile. I had to drive 15 miles one way each day to get service📶
Sep 26, 2024 · Michael ScottHidden gem an easy drive from Nashville. We stayed on site 13, pretty level and long enough for our 30' 5th wheel. Some sites need to be reworked but most are quite nice. Can't wait to go back.
Aug 07, 2024 · Amy BakerWe visited for the first time the weekend of April 30- May 2, stayed at site 23-a perfect site for tying boat off to bank and it's right at your door! Attendant was friendly and helpful. Site is beautiful although a little confusing at first because of the layout. However the view was breathtaking. Ample space between camp sites for privacy and enjoyability. Walked the campground and let kiddos ride bikes. Has an amazing play ground for the kids and is built perfect for ages 2-8. New bath house was nice, clean and well stocked. Fire wood for sale on site- (6 logs for $3) not to mention those lying around the campground where they'd been clearing trees. (Attendant said take what you want for free!) Really enjoyed the stay and will return!*Four stars instead of five because site said internet coverage but we have zero bars on the entire campground.*We have t-mobile, another camper we met had cricket and she had two bars.*Two miles to nearest Mom & Pop Market store.
May 05, 2021 · Bryant FamilyA great place to camp. Family friendly located on lake Barkley. The camp host Jake & Jayme are super nice and always very helpful with anything that should come up. They are great in keeping an eye on the park with making multiple rounds checking on things and everyone. I hope to see them next year as well. Sites are always clean when arriving. A super quiet campground come sundown. We notice the sheriff of the county also makes rounds once or twice a day circling thru which is added peace of mind. A boat ramp for launching your boat and areas to fish from the bank. A play ground as well. Nice bathhouse with two toilets two sinks two or three showers situated in the center of the campground. More sites than not have lake view. There is a swimming beach and also tent sites as well.
Jul 15, 2022 · Childress PropertiesCurrently on a cross-country road trip and this has been the best good-value campsite I have stayed at, so far. The campsites are nice and large with 4 electrical outlets, plus there are hot showers. I highly recommend the walk-in campsites since the walk isn’t too far and the amenities are great, plus there’s a beach for swimming and a boat ramp. The restrooms also have soap!
