Hungerford Hills Farm Reviews
This is a beautiful campground in a very beautiful area. Multiple lakes to choose from, and both Muskegon and White Rivers are close by. 6 miles from the main town and city amenities. The campground is extremely laid back. The best horseback riding I've ever seen. There are so many 2 tracks that it will make your head spin. Close to popular motorcycle areas as well as the campground being horse friendly with no extra costs! The people were very, welcoming, and accepting of all races and gender selections. Very helpful staff. Plentiful wildlife as we seen Loons, who are long-time residents. We saw a bear near dusk on our hike, and that's the second time I have spotted one in this area. Deer are everywhere and other various wildlife. Near a wide selection of all sports lakes and other types of rental companies. 40 minutes from Lake Michigan. This area is a must-experience for Michigan residents and out-of-state visitors! We could not have been happier. Bathrooms were near new and immaculately clean! The sites were very spacious and they had a beautiful pavilion and other common areas to congregate in. Grills were also available and there are select electrical hookups and sites. We were informed that it is a fairly new campground, and they will be adding games and other recreational activities in the near future, but if you're looking for a closer rustic feel without being far from town this is the best you can get as an all-around experience and hub for exploring.
Jun 09, 2025 · Heather CLove this place! The owner and his staff are absolutely AMAZING people! Hungerford lake is just a short walk, bike ride or drive away. It offers a small beach and small boat launch. Lake has great fishing! Definitely not a lake that accompanies larger boats. Kayaks, Canoes paddle boats smaller fishing boats are perfect. The campground butts right up to Manistee Natural Forest which offers tons of biking and hiking trails!! The campground itself is quite rustic but does have a bath house with 4 bathrooms and showers! Also has a pavilion for events if that's what you need. Horses, pets and biker friendly!!! There is a small country store close by as well as Walmart, meijers and several other stores within a 10 - 15 minute drive!! Definitely a great place to relax!!! If youre lucky you'll catch a couple people down there that throw a pretty good BBQ throughout the season as well. I've heard they are planning a few events not sure when or what all they will be. Prices are right on point! Accommodates campers, motorhomes and tents! Definitely a hidden gem!!!
May 14, 2025 · Randy StephensWonderful time to relax and let the cares of this world go away for a while. Easy tether for horses and fun trails.
Aug 27, 2022 · Sue MinerVery quiet and peaceful setting. Bathroom deserves a five-star plus! Brand new handicapped accessible barrier free private bathrooms with water and electric.walk in shower with adjustable head, soap and handrails. Slip protection on floor. Chair in corner. Tons of room for entire family in there. So clean you could eat off the floor. Huge covered picnic pavilion. They have water at bathhouse and a few places through out the camp. Sites are shaded and are mowed and clean of debris. Most sites has a fire pit and picnic table with picket poles. No electricity or water at sites yet. Perhaps that is the plan down the road. The drive way to get in is a little rough. Looks like USFS closed their original one which was right off of Hungerford Drive. Now you have to enter at farm on hill. The new sandy driveway needs to be widened and kept grated better...it's kinda rough. We made it in okay with 32*8 ft trailer and 2WD F250, but it was dry, bumpy and a little too narrow. Had it been wet we could of gotten stuck. It definitely needs to be made wider leveled and covered with road gravel....I think it's a work in progress. If you have a larger rig, it's not the easiest place to get around in...even for truckers like us. If you can't back up...might be a challenge for you. Sites are open but not level. I didn't see any concrete or wooden manure pits with wheelbarrows at all. That's something that could of been somewhere else and we just couldn't find it. No one was available to ask questions. I left a message and my call was not returned. That's frustrating when you are there to scout out the area and learn what's available from this camp. As far as the trail system, it's vast with various terrain and has something for all levels of riders. Sandy soil with rolling hills. Some areas are steeper than others. Trails 5 and 6 are pretty hilly. No water crossing. After a good rain there will be water on two tracks to play in. We've always liked the area for training our young POA ponies due to looped trail system and various trail lengths. However, the main spur from this private campground to the trails has been blocked off by USFS. This upset us...for years that was a horse trail with heavy use. Horseman put those trails in and maintained them. Too have this spur handed over to people who did not...is not right. Now it has been designated as a bike trail with light use. To access the trails legally I think you have to ride down the dirt road to hit the trail down by the USFS campground. I could be wrong. Maybe another entrance and we didn't see that either. We felt this was a slap in the face to this campground owner. No good reason for it that we could see. Disgusted with USFS to be honest. USFS had their campground in a mess. Most decent campsites are closed due to tree removal. Friends told us they have been working on it for a while. USFS campground gets heavy use. It was not mowed...and was a mess. For the extra $5a night it was worth it to stay here instead. With suggested improvements and better communication, I'd give it a better rating. I think they are on their way to being a 5 star facility. Hope USFS doesn't ruin it for them. Horseman need to rally around this business owner and push to have a direct spur from this camp. After all USFS land belongs to We The People!!!🙏🙏🙏
