What is worth choosing Hoop Lake Campground?
Hoop Lake Campground is a top choice for a number of compelling reasons, particularly for those who appreciate a rustic and authentic outdoor experience. First and foremost, the natural setting is unparalleled. The campground is situated in a heavily forested area, providing a beautiful, shaded environment that feels truly secluded. The lake itself is a significant draw, offering excellent opportunities for fishing and providing a picturesque backdrop for relaxation. The variety of fish in the lake makes it a popular spot for anglers, from beginners to seasoned pros.
One of the most appealing aspects of Hoop Lake Campground is its simplicity. In a world where we are constantly connected, the complete lack of phone service at the campground is a major advantage for many. It forces a welcome break from digital distractions, allowing campers to focus on the moment and the people they are with. This creates a unique opportunity to truly unwind and reconnect with nature. While the camping fee may seem a little high for some, especially given the lack of electrical hook-ups, most visitors find the value of the peaceful, natural environment to be well worth the cost.
The campground also offers a variety of activities that make it a great destination for all ages. The availability of kid-friendly hikes ensures that families can explore the trails together. The on-site amenities, such as picnic tables and public restrooms, provide a comfortable camping experience without compromising the natural feel of the place. The fact that dogs are allowed is another significant plus, as it means you can bring your entire family, including your four-legged members, to enjoy the adventure. The dual sections of the campground, both offering lake access, provide flexibility in choosing a site that best suits your needs.
It's important to note, however, that visitors should be prepared for the realities of a rustic campground. The sites, as some visitors have pointed out, can be smaller than what is listed on reservation sites, making it challenging for larger trailers or RVs to maneuver. The tight, wooded nature of the campground, while beautiful, can make it difficult to get in and out of some spots. Prospective campers with large vehicles are advised to take this into consideration and perhaps look for smaller sites or alternative accommodations. Despite these logistical challenges, the overall consensus is that Hoop Lake Campground offers a remarkable and deeply rewarding escape into Wyoming's pristine wilderness, making it a highly recommended destination for anyone seeking a genuine and restorative outdoor experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Our favorite place to camp. No phone service. Good hiking and fishing. There is a good variety of fish too. A little spendy for a place that has no hook-ups for campers (in my opinion). There are two sections to camp. One straight ahead and then one off to the right. Both have access to the lake. I love all the trees.
August 05 · Danielle RCaution: Sites are SMALLER than what is posted in the reservation site. Much smaller. We booked Site #2. Reservation said 85ft pull through... Our 33ft trailer couldn't fit in the horseshoe shaped spot. Majority of sites will not fit over a 20' trailer. We even witnessed people using chainsaws to gain more room. You can only imagine the stumps left behind! Camp host apologized and stated it is happening to alot of people. This campground is very tight and full of trees that there is not much room to get in and out of.We were lucky to get turned around by the boat dock. This is the size of trailer that they got in there...not sure how they will get it out.
September 06 · Carrie BakerHoop lake is beautiful and fishing is always good, however the campground has been neglected, camp spots are no longer level from years of erosion, fire pits are rusted out of the ground, and the road into the campground hasn’t been graded in years resulting in huge pit holes that you can barely get your trailer thru!! The water has been turned off ! The bathrooms are clean and the camp hosts are friendly however!
August 09 · Jeff MalanWe stayed 5/27/2024. The road to the campground was like 13 miles of dirt roads that got progressively worse the closer you got. Toilets were locked and water was not on yet but it was a very peaceful and beautiful place.
May 28 · Stanton SchmidtThe campground is beautiful. The camp hosts were amazing very friendly and always taking care of the campground/campers. They always made sure the bathrooms were very clean for campers. We saw them several times outside cleaning up campsites as well. They definitely deserve a 5 star rating for their hard work and kindness. However the campsites were very small and unlevel. The road leading up to the campground was very rough and could use some work.
