By the end of this read, you'll have a clear understanding of why Hobson Beach Park is a premier choice for Californians looking to experience the best of coastal camping.
From the stunning ocean vistas and opportunities for surf fishing to the camaraderie of fellow campers, Hobson Beach Park promises an authentic Californian coastal adventure. While some aspects, such as site tightness or tidal beach access, are part of its unique character, the overall experience of sleeping by the ocean and enjoying direct beach proximity remains its undeniable charm for local visitors.
Hobson Beach Park is ideally situated at 5210 Pacific Coast Hwy, Ventura, CA 93001, USA. This prominent address places it directly along the legendary Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), a vital artery that makes it remarkably accessible for Californians traveling from various parts of the state. Its position between the Pacific Ocean and the base of the Santa Ynez mountains provides a dramatic and picturesque setting that is quintessentially Southern Californian.
For residents of major Southern California metropolitan areas, including Los Angeles and its surrounding communities, the drive to Hobson Beach Park is a relatively straightforward and scenic journey. The ease of reaching the campground directly off the PCH is a significant advantage, allowing campers to maximize their time enjoying the coastal environment rather than enduring lengthy and complicated travels.
While the campground is easily accessible by car and recreational vehicles of various sizes, it's worth noting that its prime oceanfront location means it is nestled quite close to the highway. This proximity, while offering unparalleled views and beach access, can sometimes lead to ambient noise from passing traffic, a point that some campers mention. However, for many, the rhythmic sounds of the ocean waves often provide a natural counterpoint to any highway sounds, especially at night.
Beach access at Hobson Beach Park is direct from the campground. However, as noted in some reviews, the immediate beach area can be rocky, particularly at higher tides. Access via stairs leads down to the shore, and at certain times, especially during high tide, the dry sand area can be limited or submerged. This means that full beach usability, particularly for those with mobility challenges or young children who prefer wide sandy expanses, is often best experienced during lower tide periods. Visitors are encouraged to check tide charts for optimal beach enjoyment. Despite these considerations, the ability to simply step out of your campsite and be directly by the ocean remains a powerful draw for many.
The park's proximity to the vibrant city of Ventura, just a short drive away, also adds to its appeal. Campers can easily venture into town for additional supplies, dining experiences, or to explore local attractions, combining the tranquility of beach camping with convenient access to urban amenities. This blend of remote feel and nearby convenience makes Hobson Beach Park a highly practical and desirable option for Californian families and individuals.

Hobson Beach Park Reviews
We had an amazing 1st time beach camp experience. But there were a couple of negative reviews that I want to give a heads up on. The spaces are tight for the hook up sites , just a heads up for those who have big trailers. And the other con part is the beach access, there’s too many big rocks at the bottom of the stairs that it is hard for seniors/ handicapped people to get to the beach. And there is only a window period of time in the day to go on the beach without getting wet or over thrown by the waves , I wish the beach could be accessible all day through the stairs so we could of gone at anytime of the day instead of when the tides were low only. But at the end it was a learning experience and it was nice to be near the beach and be able to sleep hearing the waves at the same time.
Jun 22, 2025 · Kandie MonterrosoHorrible! Sandwiched on the side of the freeway (no beach access, only at low tide). Noisy, crowded, power was out, 3 large smelly, loud trash bins at the rear of our site! Nothing like the photo of Hobson Beach on Ventura Countys website! If you're looking for a quiet, serene beach get away this is definately not it!
Jun 26, 2025 · Jan wintersteinA glamping gem on the coast, Hobson Beach Park. The rock wall is a bit higher limiting your ocean view at ground level from the campsite. From a higher vantage point in the RV, it’s not an issue. The only time the beach is accessible from Hobson is at low tide. The campground has clean public flush toilets, coin operated hot showers and an excellent cafe offering delicious breakfast and lunch options. You can camp in a tent, or glamp in your trailer/RV. The sites are pretty narrow and parking is limited. I had to move the picnic table and fire pit to park my RV in my space upon arrival which was a bummer. Sunsets are Wow! Don’t miss them.
Jun 10, 2025 · Lynn CoyleIt's a nice place to take your RV and spend your day relaxing, be aware of the oil like substance on the beach, my kids came back with their feet plastered with dark sticky stuff, we noticed a few dead birds on the sand with the same substance all over their feathers, not sure if this contributed to their death.
Mar 29, 2025 · ED FAVELAWe RV camped here. There are some full hookup sites and mostly no hookup sites. THERE IS NO WATER FOR RVs in the no hookup sites so don't come empty unless you have full hookups. It's a great location on the southern California coast but the sites are tight. They have a little grill with pizza and burgers but we haven't tried it yet. The day parking fills up fast and it's a popular place for surfers. And if you have an RV site along the rocks expect the back of your rig to get splashed by salt water at high tide. Like anywhere along the coast, it's close parking but we enjoyed our stay.
