Grumpy Bear Campground & Gem Mine Reviews
We stayed here for a week. It was wonderful to camp right next to the rushing river. We really enjoyed our time here. The owners were very helpful and friendly.Positives: the clean private bathrooms, the swings and places to enjoy the view, the full hook ups for campers. Loved the farmers market across the road and how close we were to both Bryson City and Cherokee.Negatives; the water smells really funky, we were very glad we brought our own drinking water and the campsites are super small, so small that even our outdoor rug didn’t fit on the site.We will definitely be back!!!
Apr 28, 2025 · Jamie WilhelmWe have spent three days at Grumpy Bear Campground and we will definitely return. To start our stay I had messed up our reservation and we got here a day early. Jerry, the owner could not have been nicer. He was able to accommodate the extra day with no problem. We got site #3 right on the river. It is amazing! Very level and the whole campground is gravel, so no mud! I can see some peoples point about the sites being close together but they have done a good job of spacing out the current residents and because we have a camper van we are able to use our parking space next to us for our dogs playpen and it makes a nice buffer between us and the neighbor. We have a picnic table over looking the river and a very cool rock firepit. Some sites even have swings over looking the river. I love sitting outside and watching the river and I love being able to hear it through the windows at night. We decided to take a scenic train ride but we didn't want to move our camper van and leave it in the parking lot of the train station. Jerry volunteered to take us to town in the morning and he came right away to pick us up after our excursion. He didn't charge us for this service but we obviously gave him some cash for the convenience. I can't say enough about the bathrooms here. They are on an upper level so be prepared for that. There's a ramp if needed. Each room has a full shower, sink and toilet. They are new and clean, handicap accessible and private. We did some laundry while we were here also. The machines are not coin operated. There is a box for the money to be deposited on the honor system. $3.00 per load which was reasonable for the very nice, very large washers and dryers they have here. In short, I would definitely recommend them!
May 14, 2025 · Debbie AdkinsEasy access, 5 star amenities: multiple huge clean bathrooms, laundry and ice on site. Friendly atmosphere, great spot on the river. The rapids drown out any road noise and/or screaming kids! The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars is because of the lack of privacy. The spots are tight and you're really on top of your neighbors.
Jul 04, 2025 · Sylviane PestyThis little camp ground offers something for everyone, from T-Pees to cabins, and easy access for RV's to back into. All seem to coincide well here. Nice amenities.clean showers and laundry available. And I can't forget to mention the Ceremonial Cherokee tribal dance put on by the local tribe on Saturday evenings, 7 pm. To sum it up, this little jewel of a campground is a must for those who seek relaxation right on the tuckasegee river. Trout fishing...gem seeking in the smokies. I live here in Bryson city, and occasionally stay here as well. The owners and staff are friendly and go the distance to ensure your stay here is memorable.
May 25, 2025 · Mike ParrishWe had a family trip here it was great, we had 3 teepees and a camper spot, both views are beautiful right on the water. Easy access to swim. Pet friendly, clean bathrooms and bathhouse. No spiders on the walls or ceilings, plenty of light. Teepees are spacious they can get a lil hot during the day but cold at night. Bring something to sleep on if staying in the teepees. 5 out of 5 would recommend. Its a hidden gem perfect for families.
