This article aims to provide local California users with a detailed and engaging overview of Group Campsite #2 within San Clemente State Beach. We'll explore its specific location and accessibility, highlight the dedicated services and features that make group camping comfortable, and provide essential contact information. Discover why this campsite, despite minor considerations, is highly recommended for creating cherished memories by the Southern California coast.
Group Campsite #2 is nestled within the beautiful San Clemente State Beach, located at San Clemente, CA 92672, USA. San Clemente State Beach is a highly popular coastal park perched atop bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, situated midway between the major metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and San Diego. This strategic location makes it an incredibly accessible "weekend getaway" for a vast number of Southern California residents.
Access to San Clemente State Beach is very straightforward via Interstate 5. Once inside the park, Group Campsite #2 is clearly designated. Importantly, this particular group site is described as a "tent-only campsite" and is "limited to 50 people and 10 vehicles." This detail implies that while it can accommodate a significant number of campers, large RVs are not the intended vehicle type for this specific site, with a "maximum vehicle length of 20 feet" for drive-in or back-in access. Its proximity to essential services is a major highlight, with reviewers noting "easy accessibility to the near by restrooms" and being "easily accessible to Walmart, Ralphs, and Costco within 10 mins drive." The most attractive aspect of its location is its very close "Beach ⛱️ access," which is described as being "within 5 mins walk." This beach access is typically via two "fairly steep service roads" from the bluffs down to the sand. While the walk back up might be a bit of a workout, the immediate proximity to the ocean is a significant convenience for beach lovers.
Group Campsite #2 at San Clemente State Beach is designed with the needs of larger groups in mind, offering a mix of essential and convenient services:
Tent-Only Group Site: This is a dedicated "tent-only campsite," accommodating up to "50 people and 10 vehicles." This provides ample space for multiple tents and ensures that groups have a designated, private area for their gathering. The site includes "reserved parking for campers."
Shaded Areas: The site offers a "Nice shaded place," which is a considerable benefit, especially during warmer Southern California days, providing a comfortable respite from the sun.
Flush Toilets: A major convenience highlighted by users is the availability of "flushable toilets" that are "Conveniently available near the camp sites." While one reviewer noted that "Restrooms didn't have hand wash liquids or disinfectants" and "Some toilets were ran out of bath tissues and not replaced in late hours," the presence of flush toilets is still a significant upgrade from more primitive campgrounds.
Paid Showers: "Paid Showers are available" nearby, offering the welcome amenity of hot water for rinsing off sand and salt after beach activities. These are typically token-operated showers, ensuring a clean and comfortable experience.
Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: As a group campsite, it likely comes equipped with multiple picnic tables and fire rings (with grates), facilitating group meals and evening campfires (subject to park-wide fire restrictions).
Easy Access to Retail: The remarkable proximity to "Walmart, Ralphs, and Costco within 10 mins drive" is a huge advantage for groups, allowing for easy resupply of groceries, forgotten items, or any other necessities without having to travel far from the campsite.
Group Campsite #2 at San Clemente State Beach offers several key features that contribute to its appeal as a top coastal group camping destination:
Exceptional for First-Time Campers: The combination of easy accessibility, proximity to amenities (both within the park and in town), and comfortable facilities like flush toilets and paid showers makes it an excellent choice for those new to camping. As one review states, "This is our first time camping experience. We thoroughly enjoyed it," and "I would recommend this place for first time campers."
Direct Beach Access: The "Beach ⛱️ access is within 5 mins walk" is a major highlight, allowing groups to easily enjoy swimming, sunbathing, surfing, and other coastal activities without needing to drive and find additional parking.
Ideal for Family and Friends Gatherings: The site's capacity for up to 50 people and 10 vehicles, along with ample space, makes it perfect for large family reunions or gatherings of friends, fostering a sense of community and shared experience.
Proximity to San Clemente Attractions: Beyond the beach, the campsite is a convenient base for exploring the vibrant city of San Clemente, including its pier, downtown shops, and restaurants.
Scenic Coastal Views (Partial): While Group Camp #2 is described as a "tent-only campsite" with a "partial blue water ocean view," the general bluff-top location of San Clemente State Beach ensures that beautiful coastal scenery is always nearby.
Dog-Friendly (with caution): The park is generally dog-friendly in the campground (on leash), allowing pets to join the adventure. However, a crucial point highlighted by a reviewer is the presence of "foxtail weeds," urging pet owners to "be real careful where you take them to do their thing and walk around the property." This important heads-up helps pet owners prepare for a safe visit.
Memorable Experience Potential: The reviews emphasize the "memorable time" had by campers, highlighting the potential for creating lasting memories, especially during holiday weekends like Memorial Weekend.

The direct, 5-minute walk to the beautiful San Clemente beach is, of course, the crowning jewel, offering endless opportunities for fun in the sun and surf. Despite the minor watch-outs like skunks and foxtail weeds, the overwhelming positive feedback highlights that the benefits far outweigh these considerations. For locals seeking a convenient, comfortable, and action-packed coastal group camping experience, Group Campsite #2 at San Clemente State Beach stands out as a prime choice for making lasting memories by the Pacific.

Jun 26, 2021 · Suresh Raj GovindarajVery nice park to rent and stay only only concern is the foxtail weeds for your pets when breathed in to the nostrils they can get stuck in there...Just be real careful where you take them to do their thing and walk around the property...
May 06, 2024 · Joe VasquezOmg...I have never had so many ants so fast anywhere I have stayed. They obviously know its an issue because they sell natural bug powder for 10 bucks a small bag 🤦♀️. I spent the first day trying to kill all the ones that had gotten i to my camper and the next day putting my camper back on early so I could leave here without taking a billion ants with me. Worst experience. Its sad, too, because its such a beautiful place...especially to watch the sunset. They need to do something about this ant problem. If I ever think about coming back, I will bring a lot of bug killer and not drop my truck camper.I almost forgot, some of the bathroom doors do not lock, making them unusable, and a lot of the water spouts in this area are broken and have bags over them. Water was the one thing I needed and had to drive to get some in a separate container to fill up while here.
Oct 10, 2023 · blessedveteranMy family loves this campsite! They clean regularly and the people around are kind and quite of those around them. We have been going to this campsite every year for 5 years now and it has been the best family vacation we have all had! I suggest bringing some ant spray to spray around your tent because there are ants everywhere and baby powder just hasn’t been working but if that bothered us enough we wouldn’t keep coming back! I suggest taking the family on a fun camping trip on the beach so you can sleep with the sound of the ocean and wake up to the best smell of the ocean breeze!
Sep 18, 2022 · Dallas FullenBeen coming here for as long as I can remember, it’s been the setting of some of my fondest memories. Happy to see the third generation of our family experiencing it! Make sure the kids get to participate in Junior Rangers and get the Island of Blue Dolphins campfire story from the camp host!
