Grizzly Campground is situated at Beckwourth-Taylorville Rd, Portola, CA 95983, USA. This places it on the south end of Lake Davis, a prominent feature of the Plumas National Forest in northeastern California. For locals, accessing the campground is straightforward, offering a relatively easy drive into the heart of the Sierra Nevada. From Portola, California, you would typically take County Road 126 north for approximately seven miles. At the intersection with County Road 112, a left turn, followed by about an eighth of a mile, will bring you to the campground on your left. The roads leading to the campground are paved, ensuring smooth access for all types of vehicles, including RVs and those pulling trailers, making it a hassle-free journey for Californian families.
The elevation of Grizzly Campground is approximately 5,777 to 5,900 feet, which contributes to its refreshing mountain air and provides ample shade from the mixed pine forest. This elevation can mean cooler temperatures, especially during evenings and early mornings, so packing layers is always a good idea, even in summer. Despite its peaceful, forested setting, the campground is only about 9 miles from the town of Portola, which offers essential services and attractions like the Western Pacific Railroad Museum. This proximity ensures that while you feel immersed in nature, you're never too far from necessary supplies or a local diversion, making it a convenient choice for a Californian getaway.

Grizzly Campground Reviews
Nice quiet little campground, friendly host as well. Most campsites are very big with plenty of room to spread out. There are plenty of double sites as well so bring the family. Just a shortwalk to Lake Davis. We brought our dog and he had a blast! We got a little snow during the first night of three. We saw wildlife including some deer, an eagle, and even a bear when going down the road. We had a great time and highly recommend this campground. We will be returning in the near future.
Jun 23, 2023 · Bradley WassenaarI would give 5 stars but not cuz of lacking shower room. Plus, they could have provide bear proof containers around. Watch out for bears cuz I saw it and visited on my tent area during my 1st night. Store all your stuff back in the car cuz Bear is really around. Lake was nice and very close by to my unit. Restroom has lots of toilet paper, it’s a plus! Over all the nice place to camp!
