My fiancé & I did a quick weekend trip to Pictured Rocks this past weekend. We found Fort Superior Campground and booked it not knowing what to expect. It ended up being the best campground we’ve ever stayed at! It’s so private, clean, and has gorgeous scenery. The toilets are clean and do not smell bad even in the heat, the water pumps are easy to use and have ice cold water! We stayed at site 20 and would HIGHLY recommend. They sell firewood for $10 and it’s a great amount of wood!We will be coming back and we are recommending this campground to all of our friends and family!! Amazing stay! - Maddie Link

Services Offered

Fort Superior Campground prides itself on providing a rustic yet exceptionally clean and well-maintained camping experience, focusing on essential services that enhance comfort in a natural setting. It's important to understand these specific offerings as it operates as a primitive campground.

  • Tent-Only Campsites: Fort Superior Campground is explicitly a "primitive tent-only campground" and is "not set up to handle RV's or Pop-up Campers." This focus ensures a more traditional and intimate tent camping experience. They offer various site types, including drive-in sites, walk-in sites, and hiking sites, catering to different preferences for vehicle access and seclusion.

  • Privy Toilets: The campground provides "4 privy toilets" (non-flushing) that are reported to be "clean and do not smell bad even in the heat," and are cleaned daily. This attention to cleanliness for rustic facilities is a significant plus for campers.

  • Hand-Pump Potable Water: There are "2 hand-pump wells with drinkable potable water" on site. Reviews praise the water for being "ice cold." The water is tested monthly, ensuring its safety, though campers should be prepared to pump the water themselves (it may take 10-20 pumps to get flowing).

  • Firewood Sales: The campground sells firewood on-site for $10, and customers note it's a "great amount of wood," making it convenient for campfires without needing to transport your own.

  • Trash Cans: Trash disposal is available on-site, contributing to the overall cleanliness of the campground.

  • No Electricity: As a primitive campground, Fort Superior does not have electricity at the campsites. Campers are advised to bring lanterns, and some sites may have lantern hooks on picnic tables and in bathrooms.

  • Off-Site Showers: While showers are not available directly at Fort Superior Campground, campers can use showers at the nearby Munising Tourist Park for a fee ($8.00 per person per use). This provides an option for a hot shower after a day of exploring.

  • Campsite Limits: Each campsite can accommodate up to 6 people and 2 pets, with 2 assigned parking spaces. Two tents or two sleeping hammocks (or one of each) are allowed per site, with specific placement guidelines.
