FamCamp Introduce
For eligible members of the military community, including active duty, retirees, and DoD civilians, FamCamp at Beale Air Force Base offers a remarkably convenient and affordable camping experience in the heart of Northern California. Nestled on rolling foothills overlooking grasslands, this campground provides a tranquil oasis, making it an ideal base for exploring the region's natural beauty and attractions. Unlike typical public campgrounds, FamCamp combines a peaceful outdoor setting with easy access to a wealth of on-base amenities, creating a unique and highly practical option for those with military affiliation.
FamCamp is more than just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent; it's a gateway to a network of recreational opportunities right on the base. It boasts a well-maintained environment with both full hookup and dry camping options, catering to various preferences. The layout, featuring several "spokes in a compact circle" for RVs, can require some creative backing, but the overall design prioritizes a functional and welcoming space. Visitors frequently highlight the responsive and helpful campground hosts and management, contributing to a positive and supportive atmosphere. Given its affordable rates, especially considering California's general cost of living, FamCamp serves as an excellent value proposition, particularly for active duty personnel and long-term guests. Its unique setting, with views of grasslands and the potential to spot U2 reconnaissance aircraft, adds a distinct flavor to the camping experience that aviation enthusiasts will particularly appreciate.
FamCamp is strategically located at 220 Cedar Lane, Beale AFB, CA 95903, USA. Beale Air Force Base itself is situated in Yuba County, California, positioned in the Sacramento Valley approximately 10 miles east of Marysville. This places it within a reasonable driving distance of major Northern California cities and attractions. For those traveling by RV or with trailers, understanding the base's gate access is crucial for a smooth arrival. The Schneider gate is often the main 24-hour gate and is generally suitable for RVs, while the Vassar Lake gate, though also 24-hour, may not be large enough for larger rigs. The Wheatland gate, recommended for commercial vehicles, has limited daytime work-week hours.
Despite being "a bit of a haul from the interstate," as noted by some, the drive leads to a tranquil space surrounded by natural beauty. The base's location offers a sense of escape from urban sprawl while still providing convenient access to essential services both on and off base. The commissary and exchange are approximately a mile from FamCamp, providing easy access to groceries and supplies. This blend of natural serenity and convenient proximity to necessary facilities makes FamCamp a highly practical and desirable location for military families and individuals seeking a California camping adventure.

FamCamp Reviews
The campground office/laundry/lounge/bathroom building is tucked in the back corner of the famcamp area. Depending on the size and type of your RV, you may have to get creative with how you back into your spot which is one of 8 spokes in a fairly compact circle. The fampcamp is made up of several of these circles. The main area is all full hookup. There are some outlying areas with dry camping. There is a separate RV dump a few blocks away from the famcamp.Laundry is free. There are two large washers and dryers that do a good job, but due to the length of time it takes to do a load and the number of campers, there is nearly always someone waiting to do laundry. There were a few times during our 9 week stay that we gave up and went to Joy Laundry that is about 5 miles off-base.The commissary and exchange are about a mile away from the famcamp. Also, make sure to take advanage of the two indoor gyms, the outdoor track that has lights at night, the 6-mile roundtrip path through beautiful cattle pasture, the underused community center, free movies, popular bowling alley and active outdoor rec with lots of day trips on their schedule. There's more to do, you just have to find it!Campground hosts and manager are very responsive and helpful. We were disappointed that there is no monthly rate, but at $30/day, it is a deal considering it is California. In fact, that is such a good bargain that many of the campers are active duty.FYI: The Wheatland gate that is suggested due to the commercial entrance is only open during the work week during the day. At the time of our stay, the Schneider gate was the main 24 hour gate. The Vassar Lake gate is also 24 hours, but is not large enough for an RV.
Mar 13, 2024 · Laurel BLike Edwards AFB, a bit of a haul from the interstate, but a tranquil space to catch a beautiful sunrise overlooking grasslands and rolling hills (website header image). Overall, the park appeared fairly well maintained albeit a bit full with permanent party and long-term guests. Home to U2 reconnaissance aircraft, plenty of opportunity to watch them fly pattern work if you are an aviation enthusiast.
Jan 09, 2024 · Vee KMy wife and I enjoyed our time here alot. The coyotes would sing every night during "taps" ; clean restrooms, laundry room, clean place to cook and eat if you didn't want to rough it the whole time. Overall a wonderful experience. Thank God for famcamp @beale afb
Oct 19, 2021 · Dennis RedmanThe rates went up to 1200 a month as of 1 March 25, picture was last fall.
Mar 22, 2025 · William MoracaAs most campgrounds it needs a little extra maintenance, but one important factor is the staff. Extremely friendly and helpful. I would personally be willing to pay a little more if it would help get some of the maintenance stuff done quicker. Of course it is up to the base leadership to inject a little capital for maintenance. They are doing some work around the restrooms and the laundry facilities are real good. It is pretty quiet and peaceful for being on an Air Force base. I definitely recommend staying.
