Dent Acres Campground is nestled in northern Idaho's beautiful Clearwater Valley, with its address listed as Orofino, ID 83544, USA. Its exact location is on the shores of Dworshak Reservoir, approximately 19-21 miles from Orofino. This places it within the stunning Clearwater National Forest region, characterized by dense forests and the vast, clear waters of the reservoir.
While the destination is undoubtedly rewarding, accessing Dent Acres requires navigating a specific route. From Orofino, you typically take Wells Bench Road to Dent Bridge Road. The drive is often described as "windy and wonderous," or "twisty with many sharp turns," and includes "a bit steep" and "narrow" sections, especially the last part near the campground. Some sections may involve climbing and descending switchbacks, so travelers with larger RVs or those unfamiliar with mountain roads should be prepared for a 25 mph speed limit for much of the journey. Despite the winding road, many find the drive "worthwhile" for the destination.
The campground's direct access to Dworshak Reservoir is a major highlight. Dworshak is a 54-mile-long reservoir, providing extensive opportunities for water-based recreation. While the campground feels remote and immersed in nature, Orofino, the nearest town, is roughly 20-45 minutes away, offering essential services like gas, food, and laundry facilities. This balance of natural seclusion and reasonable proximity to town amenities makes Dent Acres a practical choice for extended stays.
The elevation of Dent Acres is approximately 1,791 feet. Surrounded by steep, forested mountains, the campground's setting is picturesque and offers a true sense of being in the Idaho wilderness, despite its developed facilities.

Dent Acres Campground Reviews
The road in is windy and wonderous. The sites are small but most are pull through. Excellent showers. Very reasonably priced. There is a boat launch at the campsite! I stopped in on a road trip for one night. It was about 30 minutes off my route but worthwhile.
Jul 03, 2025 · Peter HillWe always have a great time on our annual Cast n Blast trip. Nice place to stay. Friendly people. The bathrooms could use a thorough cleaning and a face-lift. They fixed and paved all the roads recently, which is nice.
May 08, 2025 · LateralConceptsLLCSuper clean bathrooms and shower. Plenty of fire would up the road to cut. No mosquitos ricks wasps or horseflies.
May 28, 2025 · Mike DouglassThe campground itself was ok with spacious sites, but the asphalt on the roads and the sites was horrible. All sites are pull throughs that are not level. The road to get there is a trip with lots of curves and steep inclines. The lake is beautiful and we enjoyed paddling our kayaks there. We had very limited Verizon service. Our cellphone booster didn't help.
Jul 25, 2022 · Tamara FoxWhat a beautiful place! The road is very curvy and steep so have good brakes, but well worth it. Very quiet weekdays and not too bad on weekends.
