Decatur / Wheeler Lake KOA Holiday Reviews
We camped here Memorial Day weekend and had a great time. The weather was iffy, but we still enjoyed it. Staff was great! They keep their grounds very well maintained. As soon as the person next to our site left, the staff was there tidying up for the next person. Which we should do before we leave any campsite! They even had someone come around and blow off any leaves or debris from the paved roads. Also, loved that if you are on a site near the water ( no sewer for these areas) you can make arrangements and pay a fee for them to come and empty your tanks. Will definitely be back with our kayaks! They also have electric bike rentals, kayak rentals etc.
May 30, 2025 · Linda CoullietteThis is a great place to stay whether you’re full timers or here for a weekend. Almost entire campground is paved which is helpful for kiddos or adults to ride bikes. They have a beach area, playground, plenty of open areas to picnic or fish. It’s a very peaceful place on the lake. All of the staff do such a great job maintaining the grounds and facilities. Everyone is so kind and helpful. Tracey, Lisa, Frankie and the rest of the team are all wonderful. It’s clear they truly care about their guests and we are so glad to have stayed here!
Apr 29, 2025 · Kaylissa FanninGreat spot for a weekend getaway. The staff here went above and beyond for our family. We were having some issues with our camper and they did everything they could to help! Very appreciative. Thank you Frankie and the rest of the staff.
Jul 01, 2025 · Keith GuillotWe booked this stay at KOA Decatur Wheeler Lake specifically because the band 347 was playing there May 31st. This was our first time and we really enjoyed the stay. The campground was nice and well maintained. Beach area was nice. We didn’t do any rentals but it’s nice you can rent pontoons/ bikes/ jet skis etc. We met Lisa Green who is the manager and she was very nice and helpful. She seems to want to run a great establishment and is welcoming to people which is always nice. The only complaint we had which is a KOA thing is that they charge for picking campsites. We travel with friends so there’s always 4/5 campsites needed. And of course we want them to be together. But at $25 per site that cost adds up where we could book somewhere else and pick sites for free. But in regards to the campground itself and how it’s maintained , we had no complaints and really enjoyed the stay! Our site was large / level. Gravel site. Fire pit with grill grate on it where several people could sit around. Large concrete picnic table. Shady area. Paved road in. It is a narrow entrance through the gate to the campground but I didn’t have an issue.
Jun 02, 2025 · ErinThis KOA is out there. Nothing to eat or even get gas nearby. The pictures on the site are NOT what the place looks like. We had to pack up and leave the beach after finding broken glass all along the store in the sand!!! I will not risk my children being cut and nearest ER is a long drive away. Kids and teens were pushing around the floating dock running over top of other kids trying to swim. You would think for a swimming fee it would have staff or lifeguards on site..The sites were old and needed more maintenance such as gravel etc. the wood steps and rains at our site were rotting and swarming with wasp nest. The lake was full of thousands of dead fish on shore. We also found tons of trash floating and all around facility. The bathrooms reek of mold and most are broken down. Lake side showers are also broken. This site was not enjoyable and needs a make over or to just be sold. By far the lowest end KOA I’ve been to out of 12.
