My family really enjoyed this campground. There was a little road noise but it was tolerable. Having full hookups and a dumpster on site was also nice. The sites are clean, level and spacious. There's not much to do on the campground itself, but it's only a short drive the the trails and lakes.Overall, we had a great experience. We will definitely be staying here again. - Chi Yang

Cuyuna Range Campground Introduce

For Minnesotans who crave outdoor adventure but appreciate a comfortable, well-equipped basecamp to return to, Cuyuna Range Campground in Crosby, MN, offers a compelling solution. This privately owned campground stands out for its focus on providing spacious, full-hookup RV sites in a serene, wooded setting. It’s designed for those who want to immerse themselves in the region's incredible outdoor activities – especially the world-renowned mountain biking trails and picturesque mine lakes – while having a reliable and relaxing spot to unwind.

Cuyuna Range Campground is a "no amenity" campground in the sense that it doesn't feature a central shower house or bustling recreational facilities on-site. Instead, it offers a streamlined, self-check-in experience emphasizing privacy and essential conveniences at each site. This approach caters perfectly to independent travelers and families who are self-sufficient and prioritize the quality of their individual campsite and proximity to the region's main attractions. As reviewers highlight, it’s a place where you'll find clean, level, and spacious sites with full hookups, ready for your next Minnesota exploration. This article will guide you through the specifics of Cuyuna Range Campground, from its strategic location and unique services to its standout features and how it serves as an excellent launchpad for enjoying all that the vibrant Cuyuna Lakes Area has to offer.

Cuyuna Range Campground is strategically located at 21704 Dewing Rd, Crosby, MN 56441, USA. This address places it squarely within the heart of the Cuyuna Lakes Area, a region in north-central Minnesota renowned for its unique landscape shaped by former iron ore mining operations, now transformed into a recreational paradise. Crosby is a vibrant town that serves as a central hub for visitors to the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area.

For Minnesotans, the accessibility of Cuyuna Range Campground is a key advantage. It is within a short, convenient drive – typically 10-15 minutes – of the nearby cities of Crosby, Cuyuna, Deerwood, Emily, and Ironton. This means that while the campground itself offers a peaceful, wooded retreat, campers have easy access to local restaurants, shops, breweries, and other amenities in these charming towns. Crucially, the campground is also just a short drive from the entrance to the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, home to its famed mountain biking trails, hiking paths, and mine lakes. This proximity allows campers to quickly reach their desired outdoor activities without extensive travel time. Despite being close to town and some roads, reviews indicate that while there might be "a little road noise," it is generally "tolerable" and the sites offer good privacy, allowing for a mostly peaceful experience. The drive to the campground via Dewing Road is straightforward, accommodating RVs of various sizes, making it an accessible base for exploring one of Minnesota's most exciting outdoor destinations.

Cuyuna Range Campground provides a focused set of services designed to offer a comfortable and self-sufficient camping experience, particularly for RVers. It's built on a "no amenity" philosophy within the campground itself, meaning the focus is on the quality of the individual sites and convenience, with area attractions serving as the primary draw. Here's what you can expect:

  • Full Hookup RV Sites: The campground offers 17 private, wooded, and spacious sites. Each site is 40 feet wide by 60 feet deep, accommodating recreational camping vehicles up to 50 feet long. All sites provide full hookups, including 20/30/50 amp electric, water, and septic connections.
  • Individual Site Amenities: Every RV site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire pit, which includes a grill attachment, perfect for outdoor cooking and campfires. A 5-gallon bucket for dousing campfires is also provided at each site for safety.
  • Self-Check-in/Check-out System: The campground operates on a self-check-in and self-check-out basis. Information regarding your stay and site access is provided via email shortly before your arrival, offering a seamless and independent process.
  • Dumpster for Garbage: A communal dumpster is available on-site for convenient garbage disposal, helping campers maintain a clean environment.
  • Firewood Availability: Firewood is available for campers to use, operating on an honor pay system (cash or Venmo). Campers are also welcome to use deadfall found around the campground in their fire pits, but breaking branches off trees is not permitted.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: Up to three pets are allowed per site. Pets must be leashed at all times, owners must clean up after them, and aggressive or continuously barking dogs are not permitted.
  • No On-site Restrooms/Showers: It's important to note that the campground does not have a separate shower house or public restrooms. As such, only recreational camping vehicles with self-contained bathrooms are allowed; tent camping is not accommodated.
  • Additional Parking for Trailers: For guests bringing ATVs, ORVs, or other recreational vehicles, additional parking spaces are available for hauling trailers. However, ATVs/ORVs and similar vehicles may not be used on campground property or on Dewing Road.

Cuyuna Range Campground boasts several distinct features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for campers, particularly those seeking a tranquil base to explore the vibrant Cuyuna Lakes Area. These attributes contribute to its high praise from returning visitors:

  • Spacious, Private, and Wooded Sites: A top highlight is the generosity of the campsites. They are described as "amazingly large," "private," "wooded," and "level," providing ample space (40’x60’) between neighbors. This ensures a sense of seclusion and privacy, even when the campground is fully booked, a rarity in many campgrounds.
  • Full Hookups at Every Site: The convenience of full hookups (50/30/20 amp electric, water, and septic) at all 17 RV sites is a major draw, allowing for a comfortable stay without the usual limitations of partial hookups or dump station trips.
  • Ideal Basecamp for Cuyuna Adventures: While the campground itself is "no amenity," its greatest feature is its strategic location. It serves as an excellent "home base" for exploring the world-class Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, known for its extensive mountain biking trails (over 50 miles of singletrack), hiking paths, trout fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and even scuba diving in the unique mine lakes. It's only a short drive to these activities.
  • Self-Check-in/Out Convenience: The streamlined, self-service check-in and check-out process, with information provided via email, offers unparalleled flexibility and ease for campers, reducing administrative hassle.
  • Pet-Friendly Environment: Allowing up to three pets per site is a significant plus for many Minnesotan families who travel with their furry companions, providing a welcoming space for all members of the family.
  • Friendly and Responsive Owners: Reviewers consistently praise the owners, Dan and Lexi (Angela), for being "genuine sweet people," "accommodating," "super nice," and "quick to respond to questions." This exceptional hospitality is a defining feature and a strong reason for repeat visits.
  • Proximity to Local Amenities: Despite its natural setting, the campground is close to the charming towns of Crosby, Ironton, and Deerwood, offering easy access to restaurants, breweries, unique shops, and other local attractions for off-campground entertainment and supplies.
  • Fire Pit and Picnic Table at Each Site: Standard amenities like a fire pit with a grill attachment and a picnic table at every site enhance the traditional camping experience, allowing for outdoor meals and evening campfires.
