Copper Range Campground

4.0
It's not a bad little campsite. It was our first time using this campground. The campsite comes with a bench, picnic table, and a fireplace with a grill. There is no electric hook up or showers. (Which we knew in advanced). So it is a little bit of a rougher camping, however, we didn't mind. There is a dumpster along with recycling options. Definitely another plus! The only downfall is when we arrived the first night someone was on our camping site. It was 10:30 pm and we were tired after driving 5 hours after work. I spoke with a lady, and they don't have a park office, and no one to call for the site. Which is understandable for a smaller campsite. However, the only thing she could offer was another site, and she wanted us to pay a fee to change site grounds.I will say that did upset me due to the fact that it was not our fault someone else had taken our reserved spot. 🙃 I did ask the lady kindly if it was necessary due to this being out of our control. She did get a little bit of an attitude with me in regards to that and said it was policy and put me on hold for 30 minutes while she contacted someone else. (It was late, so maybe that was why) But once she was back, she did end up informing me they would waive the fee. However, during that time, we were able to luckily talk to the person who was at our site, and they were kind enough to be able to resolve the issue, we just had to wait until the next morning. The customer service could have been a little more helpful. Outside of that, it wasn't bad. - Faye Wolff

Copper Range Campground provides essential services for a comfortable, albeit rustic, camping experience.

  • Individual Campsites: Each campsite is equipped with a sturdy bench, a convenient picnic table, and a fireplace complete with a grill, perfect for cooking over an open fire.
  • No Electric Hookups or Showers: It's important to note that this is a primitive campground, meaning there are no electric hookups for RVs or personal devices, and no shower facilities on-site. Campers should plan accordingly for a more traditional camping experience.
  • Waste Management: The campground offers a dedicated dumpster for trash disposal, along with clearly marked recycling options, demonstrating an effort to keep the grounds clean and organized.
  • Restroom Facilities: A clean and mostly bug-free bathroom is available for campers, ensuring basic hygiene needs are met.
  • River Access: A short, pleasant walk from the campsites leads directly to the river's edge, featuring a convenient canoe landing for those looking to explore the water.
  • Site Reservations: While it is a smaller campground, sites can be reserved, with the more private or desirable spots often booking early due to their popularity.
  • Limited On-Site Staffing: The campground does not have a dedicated park office or staff available on-site for immediate assistance, which is common for smaller, more rustic locations.

The features and highlights of Copper Range Campground truly encapsulate its appeal for those seeking a traditional outdoor adventure in Wisconsin.

  • Rustic Charm and Pine Forest Setting: The defining characteristic of Copper Range is its immersion in a beautiful pine forest. Visitors consistently praise the invigorating scent of the pines, especially after rain, which creates a truly refreshing and natural ambiance. This setting is ideal for campers who prefer a more primitive and authentic experience over developed amenities.
  • Back-to-Basics Camping: Without electric hookups or showers, the campground encourages a genuine connection with nature. This "rougher" camping style is a highlight for those who intentionally seek to disconnect and embrace the simplicity of outdoor living, cooking over an open fire, and enjoying the quietude.
  • River Proximity and Canoe Access: The short walk to the Brule River and the presence of a canoe landing are significant draws. This feature makes the campground particularly attractive to paddlers, anglers, and anyone who enjoys riverside activities. The Brule River is a renowned natural resource, and direct access from the campground is a considerable advantage.
  • Variety of Campsite Options: While most sites are close, the availability of a few drive-in sites offering more privacy, and quiet walk-in sites (even if only 50 yards from parking), provides choices for campers based on their preference for seclusion. This caters to different needs within the rustic camping framework.
  • Cleanliness and Organization: Despite its rustic nature and limited on-site staff, the effort put forth in keeping the grounds in good shape, particularly the well-organized garbage and recycling area, and the clean, mostly bug-free bathroom, is a notable positive. This demonstrates a commitment to maintaining a pleasant environment for campers.
  • Peaceful Atmosphere (when resolved): While there was an initial issue with a reserved site being occupied, the overall sentiment is that the campground offers a peaceful setting once settled. The natural sounds and forest environment contribute to a calming experience.
