Chippewa Campground

Medford, WI 54451, USA

4.0
Camped in Beaver Loop Site 5, FF, Rustic. 1st weekend in June. Huge site. Shaded. Level. Private. Super far from neighbors to barely hear their generator. Enough morning sun to charge our solar a little bit but not enough to keep up. Hosts were helpful. Collected wood on site and bought local as things were quite damp. ALOT of nature & bird song. Didn't use water hand pumps in loop. Didn't hike, boat or fish. Would kayak if we had had ours. Boat launch unusable. 30 min from nearest town. - Brenda Haskell

Nestled within the expansive Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and situated on the shores of the Chequamegon Waters Flowage, this campground provides a diverse range of camping experiences, from rustic, private tent sites to those with electric hookups for RVs. It's a place where the sounds of nature, especially abundant bird song, take center stage, making it an ideal destination for those seeking peace, outdoor adventure, and a genuine connection with Wisconsin's wild heart.

Chippewa Campground consistently earns praise from local campers for its spacious and private sites. Many visitors are delighted by the generous spacing between sites, allowing for a sense of seclusion even when the campground is relatively busy. Reviews often highlight the "huge sites" that are "shaded" and "level," providing a comfortable base for any camping setup. The natural beauty is a recurring theme, with mentions of "beautiful, quiet campground" and "ALOT of nature & bird song." While some note the typical nature of National Forest bathrooms and the need to purchase firewood locally due to damp conditions, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive. Campers appreciate the helpful hosts and the opportunity for direct water access, with some sites offering lovely lake views perfect for paddling out. The "limited cell service" is often seen as a benefit, encouraging a true unplugged experience. It's a testament to Chippewa Campground's appeal that many express a strong desire to return, solidifying its place as a cherished Northwoods destination for Wisconsinites.

Chippewa Campground is located within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, specifically at Forest Road 1417, Medford, WI 54451, USA. Its address places it in the central-northern part of Wisconsin, providing a gateway to the state's iconic Northwoods region.

To reach Chippewa Campground from Medford, a common approach is to travel north on State Highway 13 for approximately 4 to 4.5 miles to County Trunk Highway M. Turn left (west) onto County Highway M and continue for about 15 to 20 miles. Then, turn left (south) onto Forest Road 1417, and the campground entrance will be approximately 0.5 to 0.9 miles down this road. Its location within a National Forest means visitors are immediately immersed in a vast natural landscape, offering ample opportunities for outdoor activities right from their campsite. The roads within the campground are often paved, making navigation easy for RVs and trailers, even large ones, though some sites may require leveling.
