Camp Nauvoo offers a wide array of services and accommodation options designed to cater to various camping preferences, from traditional tent camping to more luxurious "glamping" experiences:
- Diverse Accommodation: The camp features "traditional dirt camping," "canvas tents on platforms," "teepees," and "glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home." This variety allows campers to choose their preferred level of comfort and immersion in nature.
- Full Hookups (Limited): While primarily a tent-camping focused property, there is "only one site that allows a small travel trailer or van (#14)," which reportedly includes full hookups, offering a very limited option for RVers.
- Clean Bathrooms with Hot Showers: Camp Nauvoo is highly praised for its "clean and updated" bathrooms with "nice flushing toilets and hot showers." These facilities are considered a significant perk, often described as some of the "cleanest" ever by campers.
- Potable Water: Potable water is available, primarily located "at the lodge itself," ensuring campers have access to fresh water.
- Propane Fire Pits & BBQs: While wood fires are "not allowed at the individual sites," each site comes with a "propane firepit for ambiance" (requiring propane purchase on-site). Additionally, "propane BBQs (propane provided)" are located throughout the property, and a "propane grill and charcoal BBQ" are available in a common area for all to use.
- Communal Campfire Bowl: A central "camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage" is a highlight, perfect for evening gatherings, roasting s'mores (bring your own fixings), and even displaying camper talent.
- Laundry Facilities: Laundry facilities with coin-operated machines are available (e.g., $1.50/wash and $1.00/dry).
- Recreational Amenities: The camp offers a "play area for kids and adults," including basketball, volleyball, pickleball, cornhole, and a playground with swing sets, seesaw, and tractor play.
- Lodge Access: The lodge provides indoor tables, picnic tables outside, a microwave, Keurig machine, and electricity for charging phones.

- Dog-Friendly Environment: The camp's willingness to accommodate dogs (in most sites) is a great feature for California pet owners who wish to include their furry family members in their outdoor adventures.
While generally highly-rated, some past visitors have noted critical safety considerations to be aware of:
- Tick Infestation: Some reviews mention "tick infestation" and advise extreme caution. It is highly recommended to pre-treat clothing and pets with tick repellent (e.g., Permethrin for clothing, vet-approved products for pets), perform thorough tick checks regularly, and be aware of areas with tall grasses or dense brush. Inquire with camp hosts about current tick activity and recommended precautions upon arrival.
- OA Trail Safety: One specific hiking trail, referred to as the "OA trail," has been described as "INCREDIBLE unsafe" with "super narrow" and "soft ground" sections, requiring users to "physically pull yourself up a rope" on a "super steep incline." This trail is "NOT a hike for anyone with a disability or illness" and is challenging even for active individuals. Campers should inquire about trail difficulty and current conditions directly with the hosts and choose trails appropriate for their fitness level.
- Bug Control: Canvas tents may let in "all sorts of bugs," suggesting campers should bring appropriate bug repellent and potentially additional netting for personal comfort.

Camp Nauvoo Reviews
Beautiful area and all the photos you see make it seem like a wonderful place to camp!My experience however was so horrible I’ll never return and will make sure everyone is aware of what’s actually going on at the camp.Biggest issue for us was the tick infestation.I had one on me that latched behind my ear and my dog ended up with about 15 and now needs to get bloodwork and possibly treatments. NO SIGNS WERE POSTED AND NO WARNING WAS GIVEN ABOUT THE ISSUE!Now before someone says “they didn’t know about it” they absolutely did because the host Greg mentioned he forgot to spray the OA trail for ticks the prior week, mind you he told us this AFTER we hiked and I had a tick on me. Not even knowing yet how many were on my dog.Second big issue was the OA trail itself. We were told it’s a nice hike little steep in a spot beautiful little waterfall. It was absolutely gorgeous but INCREDIBLE unsafe. The beginning of one end of the trail is super narrow and the ground is really soft in some areas where you could easily fall a good distance. There is also a section he did not mention that you need to physically pull yourself up a rope to make it to the top of the hill (this is about a third of the way in the trail) and then after that it’s a super steep incline for a little more than half a mile.My friend and I are both active and this was even a challenge for us. NOT a hike for anyone with a disability or illness.Overall we only stayed one of our two nights and the Canvas tent we had let all sorts of bugs in throughout the night.Greg seems like a nice guy but be careful because he’s not giving you the full story of the property.Would recommend anywhere else but here.
Jun 12, 2025 · Jessica LesofskyWe camped for several days and loved it. Quite and close to old Nauvoo. Dawn, camp host, was amazing and lots of great information about area. I would give it a 10 as well as Dawn. Full hookups and laundry. Pull through easy in and out. Play area for kids and adults. Will come again. Nauvoo was much more than we could have dreamed.
Sep 24, 2024 · Connie RobertsWe recently had the pleasure of camping at Camp Nauvoo, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Greg, the camp's owner, was an exceptional host who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. He surprised our two kids with a delicious cake for their birthday and even got us bait for fishing. The campsite itself was clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by natural beauty. Our tent was just perfect, and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. Greg's hospitality was truly unmatched, and his attention to detail made our stay that much more enjoyable. If you're looking for a great camping experience, we highly recommend Camp Nauvoo. Greg is an amazing host who will go out of his way to make sure you have a great time. We can't wait to come back!
Apr 17, 2023 · Fadi OWe had the pleasure of filming aerials of this beautiful property. Greg and Laurie (husband and wife) who run this place were great to collaborate with. Camp Nauvoo is a wonderful camp spot in the Gold Country for people who like simple camping. We loved seeing this hidden gem from the air! 🏕
Sep 09, 2023 · Virtual Tour MapsFabulous! My daughter was married last weekend at Camp Nauvoo. She wanted, and got, a wedding venue where her friends and family could meet and get reacquainted over 3 days. Approximately 80 of her friends camped on site, in a variety of tent cabins, teepees and flat ground. A stream goes through the center of camp and the sound, late at night, is magical. The kitchen is very close to a commercial kitchen, with large fridge and freezer space and a huge cold room. The grounds are so, so, so well maintained and there are showers with hot water. Greg and his wife, Laurie, run the camp and are meticulous. The wedding was a huge success and everyone is exhausted from 3 days on celebration. And we all wish we could go to Camp Nauvoo next weekend and do it again.
