It’s a place where genuine hospitality meets stunning natural beauty, all at an unbeatable value, making it a highly recommended spot for any Californian seeking a refreshing outdoor adventure.
Camp Kimtu stands out for its pristine environment and the genuinely warm reception visitors receive. As multiple delighted campers have attested, the campground is "clean and well maintained," with "the restroom was very clean" and even "one of Best smells ever." Beyond the exceptional upkeep and welcoming atmosphere, Camp Kimtu’s location along the Trinity River offers immediate access to one of Northern California’s most beautiful waterways. Imagine waking up to the sound of nearby waterfalls, stepping out of your tent to an "amazing view" of the river, and then easily walking down for a "refreshing being renewed in God's Mountain Waters." The ability to swim in cool, clear water and walk along the shore at night under an "almost full moon" paints a picture of pure tranquility. Whether you prefer a prime spot with a river view like #2, or a larger site for a group like #3, the "peaceful and quiet" ambiance of the entire place makes it an ideal retreat for those looking to disconnect and recharge in nature. For those of us living in California, accessing Camp Kimtu involves a picturesque drive through some of the state's most beautiful and winding roads. From major Northern California hubs:
- From Eureka/Arcata: Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes drive east on Highway 299, a scenic route through redwood country.
- From Redding: Approximately 2 hours drive west on Highway 299, offering a journey through diverse terrains from the Central Valley foothills to mountainous forests.
- From the San Francisco Bay Area: The drive is more substantial, typically around 5 to 6 hours, making it an ideal destination for a longer vacation. It involves traveling north on Highway 101, then cutting east on Highway 299.

Camp Kimtu Reviews
We stayed at this campsite for one night and had a perfect experience! Camp spot #2 is definitely the best — it has an amazing view, you can hear the sound of nearby waterfalls, and see the river right from your tent. There’s plenty of space for your car and all your camping gear. The site includes a fire pit, a picnic table with a bench, and everything was clean and well maintained. The host was super kind and helpful — she explained everything clearly when we arrived. It was a great experience, and all for just $20!We also noticed that spot #3 is bigger and can fit two cars, so it’s great for a group. The whole place was peaceful and quiet, and the restroom was very clean. There’s even a shower (no hot water, but still nice to have!).Overall, I really loved this camp and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful stay in nature.
Apr 23, 2025 · Ирина ЗятиковаI showed up here late afternoon on 7.6.25 and since there was cars everywhere along the road on the way in I figured there was no way there would be any camping spots available and I usually never camp at a campground because I like to do dispersed camping in the forest and this is the first time I've done it since the Boundary Waters is a kid 35 years ago, but I drove up to the camp and the host greeted me right away and she said actually most of the spots are available because there was a mass Exodus the day before and she is the nicest gal ever who was so helpful and kind showing me around the site and brought me to an excellent spot for my car camping or I could even see a glimpse of the river and then easily walk down for a swim which ended up being so refreshing being renewed in God's Mountain Waters.I had such a wonderful conversation with this blessed woman as she showed me to the site and then back up and I could have chatted with her for hours And it's so cool how you just run into people And you feel like they're a Divine vessel Where you are aligned with exactly What They are saying and you need to receive it At that moment in your life and this was one of those Kismet moments. She was funny and gracious and I couldn't imagine a better Campground host and because I've read reviews of Campground hosts Being grumpy Or Nosy I've always avoided camps but also I just love to be by myself in the woods because I think that's the whole point but oh my God this place was one of the best places I've ever camped at Either Alone Or otherwise And getting a proper shower for the first time In a week And being able to shave but also swim in the cool water And then walk along Shore at night During an almost full moon was just amazing.I could not believe how Clean everything was but especially the bathroom and shower area it was One of Best smells ever just the outdoors and maybe whatever kind of wood was used to build the interior but a shower and a shave was so spectacular and I just spent the night there but it was Sublime and I want to give a shout out to that awesome Campground host and for $20.00 that might have been the best $20 I have ever spent in my life, no joke. Also if you enjoy an amazing cup of coffee and some of the best breakfast you will ever have you will definitely want to stop at the Osprey Cafe and treat yourself to the amazing food by the gals serving it up there, particularly the woman who took my order who I assume is the owner and was so kind and optimistic. Two completely different characters between the campground host and the owner of the cafe but two spectacular human beings and blessed Daughters of God.
Jul 07, 2025 · Fitness. . Move, You'll Get itLovely little campground tucked out of the way in Willow Creek. Nice views and sounds of the river. Sites are fairly small, each unique, and close together. Great for tents or a camper van. Our Kimbo fit perfectly into spot 2. Showers were hot! Camp host Patty was wonderful with local recommendations. We will definitely be back!
