Camp Cadiz is a top choice for a camping trip in Illinois for a number of compelling reasons. Its worth lies in its ability to provide a genuinely rustic and peaceful experience that is increasingly hard to find. It is a true escape from the hustle and bustle, perfect for those who want to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature. The campground is well-suited for families, with features that make it a safe and fun place for kids to explore and learn. The availability of clean bathrooms and running water, while primitive in nature, provides just enough convenience to make the stay comfortable. A key highlight is the connection to the River to River Trail, which makes it an ideal base for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. It's important to note, as one review mentioned, that during peak hunting season (like deer or turkey season), the campground can become very popular with hunters, so it might be a good idea to check for hunter activity if you're looking for absolute solitude. However, for most of the year, it is known for being quiet and rarely full. For a simple, serene, and authentic camping experience in the heart of Illinois' beautiful Shawnee National Forest, Camp Cadiz is an excellent and worthwhile choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Fun place to camp but it was taken over by hunters the Thursday I went and it looked like they moved in. Super quiet, no services, the water won’t hook directly to a hose so bring jugs if you need water for an RV.
November 25 · Angie PeacockOnly 1 other person there, clean bathrooms water onsite quiet at night
May 15 · THE GUYIt's a bit off the beaten path as they say, but it was a nice stay and easy access. I stayed there on my way to Texas so it was dark when I arrived and left, but there were some trails and it had water and bathrooms. A bit small overall, but a 24ft camper would squeeze in there!
January 24 · Alex RVery clean site and easily accessible. Very close to some of the best hikes in the area. It is very close to the road, so there isn’t complete privacy. The road is very quiet and not well traveled, though. Will visit again!
April 30 · Felicity HallI came here for my birthday. It was great to disappear into a rustic getaway forrest. The restrooms were clean but bring your flashlight at night. Ten dollars a day was not to bad a price either.
