Camp Aerie Introduce
For those of us in Utah, finding the perfect camping spot often means looking for a balance between natural beauty and essential amenities. Camp Aerie, located near Kamas, is a special kind of campground that offers a serene retreat from the fast pace of modern life. As a destination that is often used for children's camps and by groups affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it has a distinct purpose and feel. This guide aims to provide a clear and engaging overview of what you can expect when visiting this beautiful and secluded spot, from its impressive facilities to its specific use within the community.
One of the most notable features of Camp Aerie is its location. Tucked away in the trees, it provides a quiet and peaceful environment that feels far more remote than it actually is. The seclusion is a key part of its appeal, allowing visitors to truly disconnect and immerse themselves in nature. The reviews from real customers highlight this aspect, mentioning the well-plotted tent spots and the sense of being surrounded by the forest. This is a place for those who appreciate the quiet rustling of leaves and the smell of pine over the noise of a crowded park. It's a natural setting that feels both wild and thoughtfully maintained.
What sets Camp Aerie apart from a typical campground is its well-defined purpose and the level of care put into its facilities. While it may not be a public-use campground in the traditional sense, its amenities are a significant highlight. It provides more than just the basics, with restrooms that are a notable step up from the usual outhouse, as well as running water and even showers. These comforts make a significant difference, especially for families and larger groups who need reliable and clean facilities. The presence of a pavilion and a kitchen further points to the camp’s ability to accommodate organized groups, making it an excellent location for retreats and gatherings. It is a place that is equipped to handle the needs of a modern camping trip without sacrificing the rustic, outdoor feel.
The reviews also shed light on the friendly atmosphere of the camp. The mention of a "camp host" who is "extremely friendly" suggests a personal touch that is often missing from larger, more commercial campgrounds. This kind of hands-on management and a welcoming attitude contribute to a safe and pleasant environment for everyone. It is the sort of place where you feel looked after, which is especially important for children's camps and first-time campers. This focus on hospitality and community makes Camp Aerie a place where visitors can feel comfortable and secure, allowing them to focus on enjoying their time in the outdoors.
While the amenities are impressive, it's the natural environment that provides the real magic. The camp is set among trees, offering plenty of shade and a sense of being in a true forest. Each campsite is well-defined, with picnic tables and fire pits, creating a perfect space for a camp meal and an evening fire. The location is also ideal for picnics, whether at your site or in one of the other designated areas. It is a place that feels purpose-built for creating memories, from roasting marshmallows to telling stories around the campfire. The blend of comfortable facilities and a beautiful natural setting is what makes this a hidden gem in the Kamas area.
It's important to note the specific directions provided by campers. The reviews consistently warn against relying solely on Google Maps for the "final leg" of the journey, as it can lead visitors down a nonexistent path. This local knowledge is invaluable and highlights the secluded nature of the camp. The directions provided—to follow the paved road until you see the sign for Camp Aerie and then to follow that one-lane road until the green metal arch—are a testament to the camp's off-the-grid feel. This little bit of adventure in finding the place adds to the overall experience, rewarding those who persevere with a truly peaceful and beautiful destination. It also suggests that the best way to plan your trip is by getting information directly from those who have been there.
In summary, Camp Aerie is a wonderful and unique campground that offers more than just a place to stay. Its seclusion, well-maintained facilities, and friendly atmosphere make it an ideal choice for youth camps, spiritual retreats, and family outings. While its use is often tied to a specific community, its natural beauty and impressive amenities make it a destination worth seeking out for any local looking for a peaceful and well-equipped camping spot. The fact that it is known for being clean and comfortable, with a welcoming host, ensures a positive experience for all who visit. It is a testament to how our local natural spaces can be developed to provide a safe and enriching environment for groups and families, allowing for both fun and meaningful connection.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Google maps DOES NOT provide correct instructions for the final leg into Camp Aerie. Do not turn off the paved road in Kamas, until you reach the sign affixed to a chain link fence that says Camp Aerie. You follow that quite a distance, one lane road, until the green metal arch that says Camp Aerie.
June 20 · Irene GudmundsonI love this church campground. It's in the trees, with well plotted tent spots, benches, tables, and fire pits. There are also restrooms (not just outhouses), water, showers, a pavillion and kitchen!BEWARE of Google directions. They want to take you on a path that doesn't exist. Take the upper loop road. You'll then find a small dirt road at one of the bends between a house and shop-like building which will take you back to Aerie. This enters from the north of the camp.
July 27 · Tyler HuishConvenient location just outside of downtown Kamas. All campsites have picnic tables and fire pits. The main pavilion had enough room for our family reunion and multiple refrigerators which was very nice.
July 03 · Darek ShumwayBeautiful campground with running warm water, bathrooms, and showers. Space for a huge group including an amphitheatre area. The dining areas have refrigerators and electricity.
August 04 · Cosme SalazarGreat camp! Camping spots all have locations for tents with large steel fire pits. Lots of trees and shade. Good feelings in this place. Would camp here again.
