Jun 06, 2025 · kamal SahotaDisappointing Experience – May 18, 2025On May 18, my wife and I were traveling from Los Angeles to the Bay Area when we decided to make a quick restroom stop at Cachuma Lake Campground — something we’ve done on similar trips without issue. We informed the person at the gate, who kindly gave us a 15-minute permit to use the facilities. When we reached the first restroom, it was quite crowded, and my wife, who has knee problems, was unable to comfortably access it. We drove around looking for another facility, which took a bit more time. As you can imagine, not everyone can manage a restroom break in just a couple of minutes. When we exited, we had to wait behind three cars at the gate. By the time it was our turn, we had exceeded the 15-minute limit by 8 minutes. The staff member at the gate then told us we had to pay $10 — the same as a full-day pass — simply for going over by a few minutes. This isn’t about the $10. It’s about fairness and transparency. Charging the same fee for someone who went over by 8 minutes as someone spending the entire day seems unreasonable. More importantly, **this could have easily been avoided** had the gate staff clearly explained at the outset that going even slightly over the time limit would result in a full-day charge. That information would’ve made a huge difference and felt more respectful of visitors' time and circumstances. We take this route 2–3 times a year and have stopped at the park before without any issues. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad impression — not because of the money, but because of how rigid and poorly communicated the policy was.We hope you’ll consider revisiting how these situations are handled in the future and ensure clearer communication at the gate.Sincerely,Hayk
May 23, 2025 · Hayk AbrahamyanThis is an impressive body of water with an access fee of $10 for the day, or free for 15 minutes. I took the free option and was able to snap a few spectacular shots of the lake. It is a nice drive on the way to Solvang, and very recommendable to soak in the majesty of the loved state of California.
Feb 13, 2025 · Ariadna SetentaytresWent camping with a small group. Was a great stay. Their grass is a bit too long, we stayed to Monday and was woken up to construction. The bathrooms could use a touch up in the middle of day or evening to clean up off of floor. ALSO SOAP DISPENCER BROKEN.. EWWW
