Nice little campground just off the highway with level, gravel, full hook up sites. Good water pressure and friendly staff. This has been a regular stop for us on our travels for a couple years now. Only 4 stars because it can get a bit noisy from the highway but not too bad.

Not that bad of experience, could have been better. Let’s get to the pros and cons:Side notes:•Showing up past 5-6pm there’s a lock on the gate and the confirmation email has a lock code to open it from the backside.•2 nights of camping is $45Pros:•In the park, a short drive like a 3 min to get to the family campsite.•Bathrooms had showers and warm water•Our campground (29) was felt pretty private which was good.•garbage bins were in walkable distance•campground was clean and no trash was seenWalking on the road through campsites we’re beautiful•close enough to Walmart and other stores if you need anything (10-15min drive)Cons:•I believe we were close to the highway, you can hear some cars driving faintly•our group had a weird experience with someone who stopped their car right in front of our campsite for 2 hours before we had to confront them. There's something for everyone at Turkey Swamp Campgrounds. We have our Airstream, there are bigger campers here, tents and a few cabins to rent. The Rangers are kind and helpful. They patrol regularly so it's safe too. It's just pure, outdoor fun!

For a County park this campground is really nice. Check in was easy, rangers were helpful and friendly. Sites are all pull-through and well spaced. Sites are also big, ours had enough room for our truck, 30' camper and SUV, and probably could have fit another car. Nice big clear and shaded area for outdoor relaxing, fire ring, tents, etc. As others have said the water connection is between sites so bring 30 plus feet of hose, 50' to be safe. Turns within the campground could be tough for really long rigs. Only complaint is that the dump station is in the middle of the campground near the bath house which is weird, not exactly convenient to pass by while leaving. I highly recommend camping here.

Very nice place. Colors are already crossed here, most of the leaves left the trees. It has nice playground, trails, and boat decks.Very well maintained, very clean, looks like inner roads are cleaned on the daily basis. No 🍃 on the roads.Rest room is available and its very clean.No fee to enter into this park. 2 big parking is available, both are connecting the lake. It's less than 50 steps.Nice lake view, benches are available to have food and relax. Getting little cold here in the evenings.

Went to this place to empty my black tanks. They allow outsiders that do not stay a $20 fee to use the dump station. Worked out perfect, used it twice while staying on a family's farm on vacation. Easy in and out. Go to the main office and they will give you a map of where to go.

At one point this park was a quiet relaxing place. Now the rangers can and will harass anyone who dares to so much as sit down at a picnic table to rest. Don't come here unless you want to be harassed by rangers with nothing better to do than ruin sometimes relaxing afternoon.

McLaughlin is shaded, has an access loop that makes trailering easy, a small open field (probably the old McLaughlin from before realizing shade was better), and access to the shower house. There may not be a campsite closer to a shower house.Not bad for Dinjng Hall access, not great for waterfront, and pretty good for shooting sports and STEM.

Very nice campground. We are mtb bikers and the mtb trails are a huge bonus! We had spot 43 and it was literally at the head of a mtb trail.Pros -• spacious spots with W/E• leveled tent spot included on site• fire wood huts placed around park• clean bath house• MTB trails for every level rider• swimming lake/canoeing/paddle boats/huge pool including children’s splash pad• gift store in front and small camp store in campground• picnic table and fire ring with grill at each site.• well shaded camping spots• hiking trails• camping spots were concrete or gravelCons -• MTB signage was a little confusing• only one laundry facility• only playground was closed• ladies bathroom had two stalls with poo that looked like it was there for a few days. Not sure how often the bathrooms are cleaned, but the toilet just needed flushing. I flushed the toilets 🤷‍♀️In conclusion, it was a really nice campground. Grounds were immaculate and staff were friendly. It poured with rain all night and where we were wasn’t flooded at all. Nice place to camp.

Very nice flat and spacious campsites. Some are better shaded for mornings whereas others are better shaded for afternoons. The room between campsites is very generous but watch out in the summer and fall months as there's lots of poison ivy around here!There is plenty of honor system firewood for $7 per bucket.Campsites each have their own clean and well taken care of fire pits, Plug-In electricity to charge things like cell phones or batteries, and Water faucet with potable (drinkable) water.

Great campsite, simple and family oriented. You can walk to trail heads, lake for canoeing and swimming, or just relax. Unfortunately the bathrooms near where i chose my site are permenately closed and had to go to opposite end of grounds for facilities.

The campsite was good the bathrooms were nice and the showers were better than I expected. The dogs were awesome and there was no problem in the campsite. The only thing is it's kinda hard to get to the campsite with Google maps because it isn't marked well. Overall a good experience.

We had our wedding reception at Powhatan Hall this past weekend and I cannot recommend it enough, especially for a budget wedding. We had our ceremony at Beaver Lake Overlook in the park, but had the peace of mind knowing that we could move the ceremony indoors if absolutely necessary due to weather.The hall is climate-controlled and although the air conditioning ducts can be an eyesore, we used some ceiling drapes and fairy lights to cover them! The venue provides tables and chairs in the hall, which again can be easily covered with linens to dress them up. There are private restrooms in the building and an industrial sized kitchen with an ice machine.For the cost, this venue blows other venues away and is in such a peaceful, serene location with a very rustic/barn-like vibe. I recommend renting for 3 days for set up, celebration, and clean up since they will only allow you in the hall between 10am-10pm. We rented for 2 days but had to hire decorators to set up the morning of.Lastly, communication with Becky was seamless. She is so sweet and she even gave us a wedding gift of freshly cut lavender and chocolate when we said goodbye.

Kirkridge Shelter is an old shelter with space for about 8. A composting privy is available nearby as well as a bear box.There is also a 3-season spigot on a short trail behind the shelter provided for hikers by the Kirkridge Retreat Center.

Easy access from I-77. It's a really pretty park. However, if you're in a larger motorhome, you'll need to stay in one of the premium sites or site 32 (where we stayed) for a relatively level site. Site 32 has an awesome deck next to it. For the convenient location, we'd stay here again.Management was friendly and enforced the rules, which we appreciated.

The day after checking in, we explored Charlotte and returned to the campground around 5 p.m. Upon our return, we discovered that our RV had lost power, and the interior temperature had reached 94+ degrees. Additionally, our breaker was in the off position. My husband spoke to an employee in a golf cart regarding the power problems. The employee confirmed that the park had encountered power issues earlier that day and had reset some GFCIs. They inspected our pedestal and determined that the breaker was indeed in the off position, leaving it that way because they observed our absence and presumed we had turned it off upon our departure. I am uncertain how our breaker ended up “magically” off, as we had power when we left.While we received a text message that same day informing us that the pool had reopened for the season, we regrettably did not receive any text or call regarding the power issues, particularly at our site. Today was exceptionally hot, approaching record-breaking temperatures near 90 degrees. I am curious about the number of individuals who stay in campgrounds for brief periods, leave their RVs plugged in during the hottest days, and maintain the breakers off. This situation presents an opportunity for the campground to enhance its customer service. If a situation appears illogical, there is likely an underlying issue. While breakers may occasionally trip, they do not automatically turn themselves off. The only way they are off is if someone manually turns them off.

If you are visiting someone in the Charlotte/lake area, do not stay here if you want them to visit you. Only 1, I REPEAT 1 vehicle is allowed on a site at any given time. You have to rent a fire ring/pit if you want a camp fire. The campground is full of year round tenants and the spaces are very crammed. I have a 44 ft 5th wheel and could not park my truck and trailer on the same lot without getting into the grass which is also not allowed. Overflow parking is very limited. No golf carts allowed either. Place is very nasty including the arcade building. For $200 for a weekend it damn sure is not worth it. WE WILL NOT BE BACK. no need to comment. No wonder KOA pulled their name from this place.

No longer a KOA, so no discounts for being KOA member. Not every site has a fire ring, pay for the upgrade if avaliable. Better bring leveling blocks because almost every site requires them. Overall not a bad place, but we wouldn't stay again. Mostly due to a man calling and rushing us out of the location. They stated someone was pulling in within 5 minutes. No one showed, but the mowers were hovering. Just be honest, we could have moved hoses etc out of the way and not been so rushed. Wouldn't recommend.

This used to be a KOA and the new owner is making a few changes. It is an older campground and many sites do not have sewer and many are not level. The freeway noise is bad on still nights but tolerable on windy/rainy days. The Wi-Fi at our site was very weak. The cabins are decorated with lights on the outside as well as in the game room. One night, our neighbor started his diesel pusher at 4:30 am and took 30 minutes to hook up and leave. Very rude. The dog park is large. This place is ok for a short stay.

This is private land that gets rented out for events. I got to attend an event. It's not my first time on this land and hopefully not the last. Have camped at this property for over ten years. The landowner Kit is a consummate professional, and a pillar in this small rural community. Year after year, we are delighted to work with him and use his land.The river running through the property is typically clean and safe to swim in, just be cautious after any heavy rains, as agricultural runoff, pesticides, fertilizers, manure, etc., will make the river a milky chocolate brown color. Be wary of these conditions.The pavilion is an excellent space to have events, even in the heat of the summer, given it has easy river access, plenty of electrical outlets and light, and even has a clean, spacious shower building onsite.

Our group spent the weekend here, the kitchen +dining area has AC, which is nice for the hot summer. The kitchen includes all the appliances that you need to cook and storage for your food. You need to bring your own knives and plates and bowls, and don’t forget your oven mitts. This place allows up to 50 people to fit in. Each spot has water spigot and 110v/220v outlets for your needs.

Campsite #30 is my favorite site at Lake Somerville. It’s a perfect location to witness stunning sunrises & moonrises. No tree coverage but it’s waterfront and the lake views are for spectacular. Easy lake access and no other campsites on the east side. Bonus - cardinals & bunnies visit often. I was lucky enough to get a glimpse the International Space Station (ISS) as it passed over on my last visit.

Growing up, we'd go here via ATV through the bottoms from my grandma's house. We called it Ashley's camp. There's an artesian spring there with a small wall built around it by the CCC way back in the day. The wall makes a little pool that the locals would stow their catfish in while camping or fishing. As kids we always enjoyed going to see how many big catfish were in the pool. The little bridge (which was the old highway) right before you get to the camp was out favorite perch jerking spot anywhere. There's some big'uns in there. It's worth the visit.

I wish I could give this place for the new owners a 5 star rating, and I would have if things weren't going to change. I came down through like I do every summer, and talked with some old tenants and they tell me they are getting kicked out because the new owners won't renew their lease. it breaks my heart because these people have always only known black lake and everyone got along with everyone, kids running around and having fun, and enjoying the lake view and fishing all the time and it's been there second home since they were babies. Now you're taking away there child hood home and escape from reality. I hope the new owners realize what they are losing, guaranteed money from these tenants who have been here 10+ years but let's kick them out and make it into more of an rv setting even though the north country has enough of those. Rant over.

If you are coming to enjoy peace in nature don’t come here.Sites are close together and loud. My friend had his gear stolen while we were hiking.The people at the site across from us have a spotlight which points toward our site. They partied until the rangers shut them down then finally turned the spotlight off around 11:30. So much for enjoying the stars.

Nice clean park with swimming area across the street from the boating area. Several boats on the water were trolling and fishing. I'm not sure if skiing is allowed. Long pier with fascinating views for a nice morning or evening walk. Great family place. Ziplining and horseback riding available. Check the website for availability and fees.Zipline tour guides are helpful and friendly and make the experience fun.

This shelter seems to be well maintained. There is a small fire ring and plenty of pack hangers. Could use a couple more nails to hang things. We did not go to the water source because there was water on the trail about 2 miles south. Beautiful view in the morning. Will visit again.

Vandeventer Shelter sits on a ridge high above Watauga Lake. There are nice views behind the shelter but seating takes some imagination. The shelter sleeps about six, and a few tents can fit nearby. There is no privy. There is no bear cables/boxes.A spring is located 0.3 miles down a steep side trail to the west of the shelter.

We didn't plan to overnight here, but some heavy thunderstorms pushed us off the trail early. Standard Tennessee design. No picnic table or privy, but there was a shovel and a fantastic view off the rocks behind the shelter. The major downside is the lack of water: during our mid-July trek, most of the nearby springs were dry. We filled up at Watauga Lake, but we didn't find any other reliable sources on our climb up the ridge. We would have been okay (if a little uncomfortable), but fortunately we were able to hang a bag and catch about 8 liters of storm runoff from the roof to filter during our overnight stay. Very quiet, and no noticeable wildlife activity.

Setting up a rain tarp over your tent is camping 101 to keep your tent dry. Guess what? It rained. But I was ok that it rained. I came here to embrace Mother Nature and be a part of it. But you know what takes the cake? The camp ranger whipped out this laundry list of rules that includes “No strings/ropes around trees for you and the tree’s safety, regardless of weather.” Wow - camping is no longer camping. It’s glamping only here if it rains. We toughed it out nevertheless, wet soggy sleeping bags and all. Won’t ever come back again.Oh and guess what, you can’t even cut downed trees and logs along the forest roadsides. So tough luck if a tree falls and blocks the only road out. You’ll be reprimanded for being a hero with a chainsaw.

This property is absolutely amazing - my girlfriend and I were looking for a camping spot with amenities and stumbled upon Kai's property. The tents were spacious and well protected from the elements with very comfortable beds and bedding, extremely clean and organized with the essentials you'd want.The fire pit and grilling accessory made for a fun experience cooking a pizza in our cast iron pan over the fire before making s'mores later in the evening. If you'd prefer to cook over a traditional grill, that's available as well. The layout of having the sleeping quarters raised on a second story with the dining room / hangout area below is such an efficient and cozy use of space. The bath house is pristine with a nice little coffee corner with a small fridge as well as an electric vehicle charger on the side of the building.Perfect for two couples or a small family, as there are two separate sleeping arrangements on each side of the property with plenty of privacy between them, separated by the bath house. There are also nice trails for walking and some pick your own blueberry bushes that make a nice addition to pancakes in the morning.Will definitely be back and recommending it to our friends and family.

They say Applegate Cove Campground is peaceful—serene waters, rustling leaves, the occasional bass jumpin’ out near the reeds. But if you ask the locals, they’ll tell you not to linger too long by the dock after sundown. Not since the Eyes showed up.It started one summer evening, quiet as usual. Old Man Russell was night fishing off the dock like he’d done for years. Around midnight, he came tearing up the trail to the campsites, pale as a full moon. All he kept saying was, “There’s eyes down there. Watchin’ me. Big, yellow eyes.”Most folks chalked it up to too much bourbon and not enough sleep. But then others started seeing them too. Soft glows under the dock. Some said they were catfish eyes, reflecting the moon. But catfish don’t hover still for an hour. And they don’t blink.People started noticing strange things. Lures missing off lines. Slippery footprints on the dock—too wide for any raccoon. And once, someone swore they heard whispering in the water. Real low. Real wet.The camp hosts, bless their hearts, put up a sign:“Dock closed after dark. Stay safe, stay dry.”But that didn’t stop the curious.One brave (or dumb) teen tried diving under during the full moon. He came up screaming, talking about something cold brushing his ankle, and a face with eyes “too far apart to be human.” He left the campground that night. Never came back.Some think it’s an old legend resurfacing—something about the lake being man-made, flooding a tiny village beneath. They say not everyone left before the water rose. And maybe… someone stayed behind.Whatever the truth is, the eyes are still there. If you’re ever at Applegate Cove and wander down to the dock at night, you might just see them yourself.Just remember: if they blink at you… you’ve already been seen.

Closest camp ground to the dam. Fishing hit and miss. Fish only bite on live perch. No- electric camp site $14, goes up from there. Not a single sign that says no fires, yet we were told no fires allowed. Gate closes 10pm-6am. Nats everywhere, especially by water. Dump station a ways down the road. Local gas station sucks. Fill up in town off I-40. Casey's has 100% and 10% ethanol fuel.

I am posting this review to clarify what this actually is. The dining hall came up on my Google timeline after I had visited someone nearby and although the couple times I have eaten here the food was good, it is not a "fine dining restaurant" as Google classified it but the main camp dining hall. If at the camp and able to grab some food here I don't think you will be disappointed but don't come in the camp looking for a fancy restaurant.

I came to this camp multiple times in the mid 80's. A wonderful place to experience the outdoors. Even getting flooded and stranded in 1987 was quite the exhilarating experience. The Henry Miller Cave was really cool. I earned many merit badges during my stays and learned so much...from canoeing, to making and sleeping in a wild made shelter, to firearm safety. From the sounds of it, the camp seems to have softened quite a bit but I imagine it still is a great place to learn. It would be nice to tour the camp again.

From my experience camping in the 90s here, the fire ants were king and the placement of the camps vs dining hall and learning area was always bad. Our troop was Alamo area counsel, but we went to Lost Pines for summer camp and never looked back...Bear Creek was horrible to do any swimming or water activities . we would camp here once a year for a weekend. Surprised to learn years later there are caves here.

Area was beautiful. I currently have site 30 and 27 with my Family till this afternoon. We had left our canopy up at site 30 so that we could still be at that one this morning as well as I have it reserved till 1400 today. Unfortunately I went over there and I guess someone thought it it was ok to tear it down and take it. It's just sad that people think it's cool to steal from people, especially when you are trying to camp with your Family just because we left the site for a little bit. So Please, if you are the one that took it, me and my Family will still be at site 27 today until 1400, if you could be so kind to give us our shade back, hopefully we won't need shade today, but I would like my Gray Academy Canopy and brand new orange and silver stakes back please, if you could be so kind.

If you like a Primitive feel, with the luxury of water, and electric this is for you! Natural terrain, lots of wild flowers, Deer everywhere, overlooking gorgeous Stillhouse Hollow Lake! Plenty of space between campers, nice covered picnic tables! Short walk down hill to swim in lake! Boat Dock is great! Bbq grills are really nice. Camp host was friendly! You have to have code to enter park, felt safe! Police patrolled several times a day! We love our stay, and will be back!

Great weekend experience! Directions from your registration are easy to follow but check your GPS route against them to make sure you don't miss your turn. Roads inside the camp are good and sites are fairly level, making an easy set up when you arrive. Pull ins and pull through parking is on pea gravel, so an outdoor mat is a good idea to keep from tracking it into your camper. Sites are water and power only, with the dump station near the exit on the way out. Water pressure is good but recommend your pressure regulator just in case. There is a much better spacing of sites than many of the campgrounds I've been to, creating a sense of having your own place on the lake. There are a few fishing boats on the lake and the occasional kayaker paddling by your vista. Other visitors are the wildlife come dusk. There must have been a dozen deer that wandered past on the inland side of the campsite! As well as a single trash panda (raccoon) trying to stealth past on his way to see if someone had not put the cover back on the trash bins located farther down the road. The departure was almost as easy, with a quick stop by the dump station (with a water spigot to rinse your hoses). The turns out are a bit tight if you have a larger RV or trailer, so watch you mirrors for a smooth passage out. Overall, a very enjoyable time spent and highly recommend for future visits!

Not a safe place over night. I camped there in 2017 and there was a gang that came through in a big truck. Left a knife mark on my car trunk, probably had weapons. The car block post was down so they could have easily run over us. I don’t think a lot of camp grounds are safe over night.

Consistent with Corps of Engineers campgrounds, Turkey Roost Campground at Cedar Ridge Park is both inexpensive and well maintained by very friendly and helpful employees. Once reservations are made, a gate code is provided for entry at the second gate (or the first gate if unmanned.) At the first gate, the attendant will check your reservation and provide you with vehicle tags to be used during your stay. You will then circle around to the second gate and use the provided code. Our site during our stay, 35, was a level pull thru asphalt pad with both water and 30/50 amp hookups. We had a stationary grill, a side picnic table, and a shelter area. No sewer, yet a dump station is available upon RV exit. Our section was close to the water with a boat ramp, a small beach area, 2 restroom/shower facilities, a basketball area, and a playground for the kids. Great campground for boating and fishing. Pet allowed with standard rules. Tent camping available.

A true gem for the horseback rider, hiker, and fisherman. I'm a horse rider, so this is primarily geared towards them. Trails are exquisitely beautiful with lots of single track and slight elevation changes. Nothing dramatic just winding around hills. They are extremely well marked with lots of interconnectivity. Equine living quarters parking is excellent. Metal pipe corrals are well maintained. The local Woods Ferry Horse Club is doing a phenomenal job keeping trails cleared and color coded. Small informational plaques/trail signs are quite detailed. Well worth the trip!

We really enjoyed camping here! The sites are pretty secluded, and the walk to the river is really nice. Note: if the sounds of rifles being fired in the early morning bothers you, this may not be the place for you, as there is a rifle range not far from the campground. It didn't bother us, though...we are just bringing our guns next time!

We stayed here from July 1-11 with our Lance truck camper at site #6. From the 1-7 we had a great experience and enjoyed the quiet and beautiful campground. There are nature trails (horse riding trails), flowers and plants, a variety of birds and lots of squirrels. The vault toilets were clean and really no unpleasant smell. There are water pumps with fresh water available throughout the campground. Most sites are level and have a fire pit, table and horse corral. However on the evening of the 8th the quiet was interrupted when Equestrian campers arrived with their rigs and generators which they ran none stop even when they were out on the trails riding. They ran them all night long as well. While the first two had quieter generators, the individual that arrived on the 10th had a construction generator which he placed facing us and ran it constantly. No sleeping at all for us. He also took over the water pump which meant we and others had to walk up by the bathroom to get our water. We have been traveling full time and staying at campgrounds (even at other equestrian campgrounds) 2 &1/2 years and have always had courteous and respectful neighbors. This was the first time we experience someone who disregarded the quiet hours and disrespected others. (Even our overnight stays at Walmart was better). Just a heads up for campers who wish to enjoy nature and get a restful nights sleep, be warned and avoid this campground. Unless you don’t mind generator noise.

Awesome trail ride this morning. Love the winding trails & the ups & downs. Amazing how it has changed tho. Never had the pipes in the ground for the water to run through when I would go many years ago. Can't wait to go back & ride through again!!!

Great park, for RV or tent stay. No water or sewer conditions, electric only. Spots are pretty spaced out, kind of hard to back into it, sometimes it seems like you should be driving against the traffic. Proximity and convenience of being in the state park gives you the opportunity to visit the park any time you want. Roads in the RV park are narrow and trees are low.

Great place for camping, either Tent or RVcampsites for tents were a little small, more so than I’ve seen throughout the state. Your miles may vary with flatness or clearings.
