I’m surprised there’s no reviews for this site yet but here it goes. Red-flag warning our first night there. Rangers patrolled often. Spacious camp site well worth the price. We had about 15 people in our party and it was plenty of space could easily fit the 40 max. BEAUTIFUL sky views. Dusty. Port-a-potties slightly up the hill from the site but not down wind. Water faucet and hose hook-up on the water access in the middle of the site. 6 cars can park on-site with passes. Plenty of table space. Shaded by one huge oak tree. Would be good to bring shade. Short cut access to the hiking trail. Lots of wild life. Saw coyote, deer, pigs, cows, and loads of birds. Quails, wild turkeys and hawks. Large bbq, pig box, standard fire ring with bbq grate. Would have enjoyed actual toilets and a shower but for the 2 night stay the port-a-potties were ok but did start to smell bad towards the last day there. Bring incense! - Mother Of Fireworks

Its location on Mount Hamilton Road means it's accessible by vehicle, offering a winding, picturesque drive up the mountain from the San Jose area.

For Californians, especially those in the greater Bay Area, accessing Big Oak Group Camp involves a scenic ascent up Mount Hamilton. From San Jose, visitors typically take Alum Rock Avenue (which turns into Mt. Hamilton Road) east. The drive itself is part of the experience, offering increasingly expansive views as you climb.
