Big Lagoon State Park Campground

Campground Loop Rd, Pensacola, FL 32507, USA

4.0
Stayed for a week in Dec. The foliage is gorgeous! Just about every site has trees and shrubs making them nicely secluded from neighbor. There were lots of critters to see:several kinds of birds, deer, raccoons, opossums, turtles… The trails and walking bridges were well maintained and we were able to see a lot of wildlife. Bath house was clean with HOT water. Short drive to Perdido Bay beach (a lot of blue jellyfish washed up). Overall a great place I would visit again. Also dog friendly - Joella Taubert

Big Lagoon State Park Campground Introduce

Introduction / Overview

Nestled on the tranquil shores of Big Lagoon, the Big Lagoon State Park Campground offers a remarkable escape into Florida's diverse natural landscape, just a stone's throw from Pensacola. This medium-sized campground is a testament to the beauty of thoughtful park design, with campsites expertly tucked among a lush tapestry of trees and shrubs. This intentional layout provides a coveted sense of privacy, allowing each visitor to feel truly immersed in nature, secluded from neighboring campers. Beyond the individual sites, the park itself is a vibrant ecosystem teeming with life. Visitors frequently report sightings of a wide array of critters, including various bird species, graceful deer, curious raccoons, elusive opossums, and slow-moving turtles, making every stroll an opportunity for wildlife observation. The commitment to maintaining the natural environment is evident throughout the park, creating a serene and engaging atmosphere for all who visit. Big Lagoon State Park Campground is not merely a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it's an invitation to explore, relax, and reconnect with the natural world that makes Florida so special. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat, an active outdoor adventure, or a family-friendly getaway, this campground provides a pristine setting that consistently earns high praise from those who experience its unique charm.

Location and Accessibility

Big Lagoon State Park Campground is conveniently located at Campground Loop Rd, Pensacola, FL 32507, USA, making it an easily accessible natural haven for locals and visitors alike. Situated on the beautiful Big Lagoon, the park benefits from its prime coastal proximity while maintaining a secluded, wilderness feel. Access to the campground is generally straightforward, with a narrow one-way street circling the main loop. While this design contributes to the park's quiet ambiance, it's worth noting for those with larger recreational vehicles; some of the cut-across streets can be challenging or even impossible for big rigs, and a few tight turns exist on the loop furthest from the entrance. Asphalt crumbling and some low branches in certain road areas also suggest that extra care is needed while navigating. Despite these minor considerations, the park's location offers a fantastic balance of peaceful seclusion and convenient access to essential amenities. For daily necessities, a Winn Dixie grocery store and a Dollar General are remarkably close, approximately a mile away, ensuring you won't have to venture far for supplies. For propane refills, a Tractor Supply is about 6 miles away, and an Ace Hardware, just 2 miles distant, offers an alternative, though with a flat rate for smaller tanks. While the campground itself does not offer Wi-Fi, cell service (Verizon is generally okay) is available, and for reliable streaming, a Starlink connection is recommended. Additionally, the park's strategic location means a short drive to Perdido Key Beach, offering another beautiful coastal experience, though visitors should be aware that jellyfish can sometimes wash up. The UPS Store at Barrancas Ave is about 20 minutes away for any shipping needs. Overall, Big Lagoon State Park Campground provides a wonderfully situated base for exploring the Pensacola area while enjoying a deep connection with nature.
