BETHEL HIDEAWAY CAMPGROUND RESORT Introduce
For New York residents looking to escape the city bustle and enjoy the serene beauty of the Catskills and Sullivan County, the **BETHEL HIDEAWAY CAMPGROUND RESORT** in Ferndale, NY, presents itself as a local destination for outdoor relaxation. This establishment operates as both a traditional **Campground** and an **RV park**, aiming to serve a diverse clientele of local campers, from those pitching a tent to those arriving in a recreational vehicle.
Located in a region famed for its rolling hills, pristine lakes, and historical significance, this campground offers New Yorkers a convenient access point to the region's abundant outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, and nature observation. As a local business, it focuses on providing a functional and enjoyable environment for guests seeking a comfortable, nature-focused break.
Based on customer experiences, the atmosphere can be quite appealing during certain times, particularly mid-week. One local review highlights a successful visit, describing it as a "Nice relaxing getaway for a couple of days, during the week." This suggests that New Yorkers prioritizing a quiet, restorative experience might find their ideal setting here, especially when the resort is less crowded. The resort’s environment encourages the classic camping experience: sitting by a fire, enjoying the natural sounds of frogs by the pond, and having a general feeling of tranquility.
However, potential guests should be aware that the park may operate with a strong sense of community and potentially strict adherence to private property rules. One public account describes a brief, unintended stop by a lost traveler who was met with an immediate, unwelcoming response from both staff and community members, stating, "we only rent to friends." This particular incident suggests that the park highly values its existing community and privacy, and spontaneous public stops may not be handled with typical public service courtesy. New Yorkers planning a stay are therefore advised to secure a reservation and confirm all rules and expectations well in advance to ensure a smooth arrival.
Overall, BETHEL HIDEAWAY CAMPGROUND RESORT appears to be a good fit for locals seeking a pre-planned, relaxing mid-week escape with full camping amenities, as opposed to a spontaneous stopover destination. The management, mentioned as "Jen, the owner and employees," are described in positive reviews as being "very accommodating and were just wonderful," suggesting a commitment to guest satisfaction once established on a rented site.
**Location and Accessibility**
BETHEL HIDEAWAY CAMPGROUND RESORT is located at **106 Fulton Rd, Ferndale, NY 12734, USA**. Ferndale is situated in Sullivan County, a well-known area in the Catskill Mountains region of New York State. This location is valued by New Yorkers for its proximity to numerous natural and cultural sites, including the original Woodstock site in Bethel, which is a significant regional draw.
The campground's location on Fulton Road places it in a scenic, more rural part of the county, consistent with a typical New York "hideaway" experience. However, the local roads in this area, sometimes described as "back country type," require cautious driving due to fast local traffic and winding conditions. As one review noted, "People drive fast here, and the roads are back country type. Not the safest." Locals driving RVs or pulling trailers should factor this into their travel plans and ensure safe parking upon arrival.
A key feature of the resort is its commitment to accessibility. The provided public information confirms the following features, which are vital for many New York families and travelers:
- **Wheelchair accessible entrance:** Ensures easier access into the main areas of the resort.
- **Wheelchair accessible parking lot:** Provides designated and appropriately sized parking for mobility-impaired guests.
This attention to accessibility makes it a more inclusive option compared to some older or more rustic campgrounds in the New York region. While the specific accessibility of the individual campsites (tent or RV) is not detailed, the provision of accessible parking and entrance demonstrates an effort to accommodate guests with mobility challenges.
**Services Offered**
As a combined Campground and RV Park, BETHEL HIDEAWAY CAMPGROUND RESORT offers essential services to facilitate a comfortable camping experience for local New Yorkers.
- **Dual Site Types:** The park caters to both tent campers and RV travelers, offering designated areas for each. One review specifically mentions a "Perfect tent site (f3)in front of small pond," indicating well-established tent accommodations.
- **Campground Amenities:** Although not fully detailed in the provided information, the property offers key communal facilities. Reviews confirm that **Bathrooms and showers are clean**, with one guest noting the shower was "perfect temperature," which is a crucial detail for campers.
- **On-site Recreation:** A **Nice pool w chairs** is available, providing a major amenity for relaxation and family enjoyment, especially during the warm New York summers.
- **Fishing Access:** The presence of a **small pond** stocked with "Small catfish, Sunny’s, bass for catch an release" is a valuable feature for anglers and families looking for a relaxing, low-key activity.
- **Family-Friendly Environment:** The designation **Good for kids** indicates that the facilities and environment are structured to be welcoming and safe for children, a major consideration for New York families planning a vacation.
- **Customer Service:** Guests have highlighted the efforts of the staff, noting that "Jen, the owner and employees are very accommodating and were just wonderful," which suggests a warm and helpful service approach once guests are checked in.
**Features / Highlights**
BETHEL HIDEAWAY CAMPGROUND RESORT stands out locally due to several key features that enhance the camping experience for New Yorkers.
- **Mid-Week Tranquility:** A major highlight noted by guests is the **quiet and relaxing environment during the week**. For locals seeking a peaceful retreat, planning a non-weekend visit is highly recommended as weekends are often "sold out."
- **Clean Essential Facilities:** The park is specifically praised for having **clean bathrooms and showers** with good water temperature, addressing two common concerns for campers.
- **Recreational Pool:** The presence of a **nice pool** elevates the resort status, offering a refreshing and family-friendly activity on-site, a significant convenience in the summer heat.
- **Accessibility Commitment:** The provision of a **wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot** is a commendable highlight, ensuring greater inclusivity for guests with mobility needs.
- **Nature and Pond Access:** Campers can enjoy a beautiful, natural setting, including sites near a **small pond** for viewing wildlife (like the singing frogs) and for **catch-and-release fishing**, offering a simple, rewarding outdoor activity.
- **Dog-Free Atmosphere (Implied):** While not explicitly stated, the negative review describing the immediate hostility toward an unannounced visitor suggests a strong desire for a controlled, private environment. This could translate to a more predictable and possibly quieter experience for booked guests, free from unexpected public traffic.

**What is Worth Choosing BETHEL HIDEAWAY CAMPGROUND RESORT**
For New York State residents seeking a reliable and relaxing outdoor retreat, BETHEL HIDEAWAY CAMPGROUND RESORT offers several compelling reasons for a visit. It’s a dual-purpose location that effectively serves both **Campground** and **RV park** guests, offering flexibility in accommodation.
The primary reason to choose this resort is the **potential for a truly quiet and relaxing getaway**, particularly if you book during the week. The resort’s environment, complete with a pond for fishing and a pool, encourages genuine rest and family time. For New York families, the fact that it is designated as **Good for kids** makes it an excellent option for creating cherished outdoor memories in the Catskills region.
Furthermore, the high marks given to the **cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers** and the confirmed presence of a **nice pool** mean that guests can expect comfortable and functional communal facilities, which is a major deciding factor for any New York camping trip. The management, praised for being accommodating and wonderful by paying guests, suggests a positive service experience once you are established on your site.
However, an important consideration for choosing this specific local campground is its apparent emphasis on privacy and existing community. Potential guests should ensure they **book ahead** and **arrive during official check-in times** and not expect to use the property for spontaneous stops, as the strong protective stance against unannounced visitors suggests a preference for booked, known guests. By respecting the park's private nature and booking in advance, New Yorkers can unlock a rewarding and amenity-rich camping experience in a beautiful part of the state.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I pulled in for just a minute bc I was lost and my phone couldn’t connect, and I didn’t want to park unsafely on the side of the road to cause any accidents. People drive fast here, and the roads are back country type. Not the safest.I was also curious about what rental was like, bc I was thinking about coming back with friends in the spring for hiking.Immediately, a kid comes over and makes it known that I’m unwelcome. I tell her my situation and she leaves. Then before I could even leave (!), an aggressive weirdo on a golf cart, comes over and lets me know that I can’t be there for just a minute to get my bearings and leave. “That happens on the public roads,” he says. And “we only rent to friends”.I don’t recommend staying here unless you enjoy a hostile, cult-like “welcome”. And if you’re a member of the public, bc apparently they don’t want you there.
August 28 · Micha MiNice relaxing getaway for a couple of days, during the week. Weekends they say are usually sold out. Perfect tent site (f3)in front of small pond. Small catfish, Sunny’s, bass for catch an release, also the frogs sing all night. Jen, the owner and employees are very accommodating and were just wonderful. Evening temp got a little chilly about 56 Bathrooms and showers are clean and the shower was perfect temperature. Nice pool w chairs. Bring bug fogger, fly swater, flys can be a bit annoying at times . Overall if your looking just to sit by a fire and have a nice quiet relaxing time during the week it’s perfect. Haven’t been there on the weekend yet.
July 26 · D GOnly a little more than an hour from New york city. We camped at bethel hideaway on memorial day weekend. I can say that it was a pleasure camping here. The staff members were extremely friendly and accomodating. Our campsite was next to a pond that was so scenic and peaceful. There is apparently a number of campers that leave their trailers and R.V.'S there for the year known as seasonal campers. All of the seasonal campers were friendly and respectful. Each campsite has a water spigot and electrical outlet making "roughing it" a lot less rough :). The shower area and bathrooms are clean and sufficient for thier purpose. The camp is minutes from Bethel woods concert venue ( a beautiful venue). As i understand it the campground is busy during peak concerts. Probably because they offer shuttles to and from the concerts and because its only minutes from the venue. During our stay we saw kids playing at the playground, riding their bikes, and exploring. Kids would leave to go play and would come back when called for lunch or dinner.. It was refreshing to see kids doing what kids use to do, make thier own fun. Familys leave the gameboys at home, pack up the bicycles and watch your kids have a good old fashion time camping, playing and eating as a family... I cannot think of a more relaxing way to spend a couple of days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life while offering a fun packed weekend. We will definitely be back for a concert and to enjoy this experience again!
May 27 · David PenningtonThis is a great Campground. It's not koa, it is an eclectic mix of sites with lots of space. The pool, showers, etc. are not new but they are clean and very serviceable.
June 17 · Russell KellyWe camped here with a pop up for Mountain Jam and it was a lovely experience. We also had 2 young children with us and they loved it. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms and showers were clean, but only the bathrooms by the showers had hot water. There was not a shuttle to the fest but not sure we would have used it anyway. There was music, coffee, playground, pool, pancake breakfast, hammocks. I did read the negative reviews but took a chance and I'm glad we did - it was perfect. The only negative was the mud. I do think resort is a bit misleading. It's a campground, and I don't expect to be fed at one so the coffee and bagels and pancakes were nice extras. It is a bit pricey for camping, but still cheaper than the festival. We loved the Jam and hope to return next year! Peace! ✌
