Aziscoos Valley Campground

Wilsons Mills Rd, Lincoln, ME 03579, USA

5.0
Probably my favorite campground in all of New England. This place is truly a hidden gem. Not a lot of sites available so you need to book early. The Sites themselves are mostly grassy and enormous. Nearly 360° views of the surrounding mountainous terrain from all sites. The Magalloway River runs parallel to the campground with a historic covered bridge crossing it (accessible by foot). You can tube, kayak, canoe, float or fish in this wonderful body of water. On a clear night Aziscohos is a star gazers dream, simply stunning.I’ve only been here in a pop up, but I believe there is a dump station. Most sites are “dry camping”, and that to me makes it that more “intimate” and true to what camping really is. There are a handful of sites that have water and electric. The restrooms and showers are the cleanest and most modern of any campground I’ve been to.Owners are great people and very down to Earth. I can’t say enough great things about this wonderful place. - Joe Stover

Location and Accessibility

Aziscoos Valley Campground boasts a location that is both wonderfully secluded and surprisingly accessible for Maine locals seeking a genuine wilderness experience. Situated on Wilsons Mills Rd, Lincoln, ME 03579, USA, it places you deep in Maine's western mountains, an area renowned for its untamed beauty and abundant outdoor recreation opportunities. While the address lists Lincoln, it's more precisely located in the remote and picturesque community of Wilsons Mills, right on the border of New Hampshire.

The campground's direct proximity to the Magalloway River is a significant highlight, with the river running parallel to the sites. This offers immediate access for fishing, tubing, kayaking, and canoeing. Adding to the charm is a historic covered bridge that crosses the Magalloway, accessible by foot from the campground, providing a picturesque landmark and a lovely spot to explore. Furthermore, the campground offers immediate access to the vast Aziscohos Lake, a massive, pristine body of water known for its incredible fishing and undeveloped shoreline. Access to Aziscohos Lake is often via gravel roads, which adds to the feeling of adventure and seclusion but is generally navigable for most vehicles.

While the setting feels wonderfully remote, the access roads, primarily the Wilsons Mills Road, are typically well-maintained, allowing for straightforward travel to and from the campground. It's a destination that truly allows you to get away from it all without feeling completely cut off. For Maine residents who appreciate the peace and quiet of the wilderness but value well-maintained facilities and a sense of community, Aziscoos Valley Campground's location offers the perfect balance, serving as an ideal base for exploring the wild beauty of western Maine.

  • Firewood Sales: While not explicitly stated, it is common for campgrounds in remote areas to offer firewood for sale on-site, a convenience for campers. (Always buy local firewood to prevent the spread of invasive species).

Promotions or Special Offers

Given the nature of Aziscoos Valley Campground as a "hidden gem" with limited sites and a high demand (often requiring early booking), specific, widely advertised promotions or "special offers" are less common than at larger, corporate-run campgrounds. The value here lies in the unique experience and pristine location, which often means demand outstrips the need for heavy discounting. However, directly contacting the campground is always the best approach, as they might have informal policies or seasonal considerations. Common practices that might influence pricing or availability, though not "promotions" in the traditional sense, could include:

  • Early Booking Incentives: While not a discount, booking well in advance is highly recommended due to the limited number of sites and high popularity, ensuring you secure your desired dates.
  • Off-Peak Season Rates: If the campground operates during shoulder seasons (e.g., late spring or early fall outside peak foliage), rates might be slightly lower than prime summer or peak foliage times.
  • Longer Stay Discounts: Some campgrounds offer a reduced nightly rate for stays of a week or more, encouraging extended visits.
  • Word-of-Mouth/Repeat Visitor Perks: Independent campgrounds with "down to Earth" owners sometimes offer small courtesies or priority booking to loyal, returning guests, though this is informal.

The most important "offer" at Aziscoos Valley Campground appears to be the high-quality, authentic Maine camping experience itself. To inquire about specific pricing, availability, and any potential deals for your desired dates, contacting the owners directly is the most effective method. Their willingness to accommodate last-minute calls, as noted in a review, suggests a flexible and customer-focused approach, making direct inquiry the best strategy for Maine locals planning their trip.
