Atherton Creek Campground Introduce
In a state as magnificent as Wyoming, finding a truly perfect camping spot can feel like a quest for buried treasure. For many, that treasure is Atherton Creek Campground. As one visitor put it, it's a place that "saved my trip," proving to be a perfect, open campground when many others were unexpectedly closed. Tucked away in the serene Bridger-Teton National Forest, this campground offers a peaceful and beautiful escape from the crowds often found in nearby popular areas like Grand Teton National Park. Whether you're a seasoned RVer, a tent camper, or a family looking for a new adventure, Atherton Creek provides a welcoming environment to enjoy the best of Wyoming's wilderness. Its quiet atmosphere and stunning surroundings make it a true gem for locals and travelers alike.
Atherton Creek Campground is located on Forest Rd 30374, just outside of Kelly, Wyoming. This strategic location places it near the western side of the state, offering incredible accessibility to both the vast Bridger-Teton National Forest and the iconic Grand Teton National Park. The drive to the campground is a scenic journey in itself, with paved roads leading most of the way and winding through aspen stands and past gorgeous views of the Gros Ventre River. While it feels wonderfully secluded, the campground is only a short distance from the town of Kelly and about a 30-minute drive from Jackson and Grand Teton. This combination of peaceful isolation and convenient access to major attractions makes Atherton Creek a highly desirable location for those who want to experience the wilderness without being too far from civilization. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The Only Campground open I could find and it turned out to be perfect! So many campgrounds in the area stated amenities would be shut off but still open to camp, come to find out they were all closed. So this spot definitely saved my trip, thank Goodness. LOVE this spot. There was also a fox that stayed around the area and would get pretty close.
May 14 · Billie WentlandThe sites were quiet and had beautiful views! The pit toilets were some of the cleanest I’ve ever been in and the camp host was very friendly
July 14 · Samantha GreenGreat campground! We didn't reserve beforehand and were glad we found it. A bit off the beaten path and construction made it A LOT longer of a drive to get to our destinations, but overall great. Great space with fire pits and firewood for sale. Cleaner outhouse bathrooms than I've seen, so I was so grateful for that! There are bears around so be very careful about taking care of all your food and such, even other...odorous things. Right by the lake with gorgeous views. $15 per car per night, and extra for more than one car.
June 15 · Christina BeebeGreat spot. Very dog friendly. Fills up on the weekends but more spots further up the road. Lots of flies currently. Worse than the 🦟 that were also around. Friendly camp host and camp neighbors. Minimal to no cell service. Clean bathrooms and water access. Lake was great for paddleboards in the am but got windy.
July 18 · Rob DorseyExcellent spot but get there early in day. Boat ramp and beach access is good. Host is great and sells firewood. $20 per night, very clean everything and no cell service, yay!!! Host says late June through August it gets really busy.
