For us Wisconsin locals, finding a campground that combines natural beauty with a friendly atmosphere and convenient access to recreational pursuits is highly valued. Anchor Woods Campground provides this balance, making it suitable for a variety of camping styles, from those with ATVs ready to hit the trails to families simply seeking a quiet wooded retreat.
Anchor Woods Campground is located at W9061 County Hwy E, Spooner, WI 54801, USA. This address places it in the heart of Washburn County, a renowned region within Wisconsin's Northwoods, famous for its abundant lakes, rivers, and extensive trail systems. For residents across Wisconsin, Spooner is a well-known gateway to outdoor recreation, making the campground an accessible destination for many.
The accessibility to the campground is straightforward, situated conveniently off County Highway E. While it offers a "woods" experience, it's not overly isolated. A local bar just "around the bend" provides immediate access to food and drinks, a convenient option for evenings. Furthermore, its location directly on an ATV route is a major highlight for enthusiasts, allowing them to ride straight from their site into the wilderness, exploring hundreds of miles of trails in Washburn County's 21,000 acres of county forest.
Within the campground, while sites are generally spacious and shaded by tall pine trees, some reviewers note that "most open sites are not level." This is an important consideration for RV campers, especially regarding the on-site dump stations, which can sometimes be uphill from the spots, requiring maneuvering. However, the convenience of individual dump hookups (full hookup RV sites with water, electric, and sewer) at each site is a significant benefit. The grounds are generally well-mowed for walking, indicating good maintenance. Anchor Woods is directly across County Highway E from its sister campground, Anchor Bay, which is located directly on Bass Lake, providing campers at Anchor Woods with indirect access to lake activities.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had a great time in the woods for Mother's Day weekend. Giant pine trees shaded our spot. Rented the camp's pontoon boat. Spent the day tooling around getting some sun on my legs. All was mowed nice for walking. Lots of friendly seasonal camper. ATV's and all their toys. Great group of people.
May 14 · Deo CurtsSite is clean and the owner is responsive to our questions and flexible when we needed to move our site, but just know that most open sites are not level and the way they have the dump (at each site) tends to be up hill from each spot.So in order for us to dump, we had to back into another site so that we were dumping down hill. This was frustrating after spending a long day on the road. Also noticed some dog poop at some of the other sites as well. Please pick up after your pets!!.... Not cool......Other then that, the area was quite and in the woods. Local bar just around the bend provided food and drinks during the two nights that we were there.Allot of seasonal campers as well at this site and the one across the street.
August 02 · Carnell Chappelle Jr.No staff around. Got to our site, and it was so unlevel we couldn't begin to get into it. Tried calling the owner, no answer. Finally after 4 calls, she answered and told us to go to a different site, which worked out well for us. We were lucky. A lot of the sewer hookups are up hill. We saw other campers pulling into vacant sites as they were leaving just so they could empty, as there is no dump station either, all full hookup sites. Some sites are spacious, others not, but very hilly and uneven ground. Quite a few seasonals as well. It was very quiet, though.
September 27 · Karen BourcierWe have camped there several times. Aways a pleasure. Quiet, well kept, clean showers, fun things to do. Will be back this summer.
May 24 · Jim ReillyVery well kept grounds! Lots of trees and hills. Feels more like camping in the woods than a camping site.
