Whisper Mountain RV Park

4897 3 Lick Rd, Roanoke, WV 26447, USA

4.0
We stayed here for 1 night on our way north. The campground is NOT convenient to the highway or most any other road for that matter. Its WAY off the beaten path. Definitely follow the directions that they send to you and NOT your own GPS. You will find yourself on some pretty tight "2 lane roads" where if there are 2 cars one of them will have to pull off to let the other pass. Even with the directions the road is pretty small, hilly and curvy. With a big rig kinda sketchy but smaller trailers fine. Once there Judy was very nice and accommodating. The campground is quaint and pretty secluded. We stayed in a pull thru up front which was easy to get in and out but right next to a "garage" area so not very private. The bathhouse was a bit run down and laundry facility was locked up. Not a horrible experience but not very convenient to anything. - Steve Yad

Beyond these practicalities, the best RV parks distinguish themselves through their atmosphere, location, and the quality of their hospitality. Whisper Mountain RV Park, while acknowledged for its "WAY off the beaten path" location, is also highly praised for its peaceful ambiance and the welcoming nature of its owners, promising a memorable stay for those who value tranquility and natural beauty.

The owners, especially Judy, are consistently highlighted as "very nice and accommodating," making visitors feel truly welcome. A delightful and memorable feature mentioned by guests are the "2 sweet miniature horses, Misty & Mr Nibbles," adding a charming and unique touch to the experience. While the access roads require careful navigation, particularly for larger rigs, the consensus is that the secluded, natural setting and warm hospitality make the journey well worth it for those seeking a genuine retreat in the West Virginia mountains.

Location and Accessibility

Whisper Mountain RV Park is located at 4897 3 Lick Rd, Roanoke, WV 26447, USA. Roanoke is a small community in Lewis County, West Virginia, characterized by its rolling hills and dense forests. While the park is indeed "WAY off the beaten path," as one reviewer noted, this very seclusion is a significant part of its appeal for those seeking a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The park's remoteness means that navigating to it requires attention to detail. Guests are strongly advised to "definitely follow the directions that they send to you and NOT your own GPS." The roads leading to the park are described as "pretty small, hilly and curvy," with sections that can be tight for two cars to pass. For "big rigs," the journey might be "kinda sketchy," though "smaller trailers" are generally fine. This emphasis on following specific directions underscores the park's commitment to ensuring guests arrive safely, despite the challenging approach.

Despite its secluded nature, Whisper Mountain RV Park is strategically located near various attractions that highlight West Virginia's natural beauty and historical significance. It is roughly two miles from Stonewall Resort State Park, a popular destination offering a wide range of activities including boating, fishing, hiking, and golf on Stonewall Jackson Lake. This proximity makes it convenient for guests to venture out for a day of adventure before returning to the peaceful confines of the RV park. Other nearby natural features and "local swimming holes" are also accessible for those looking to explore the outdoors.

For historical and cultural enrichment, attractions like the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, the Museum of American Glass in Weston, and WVU Jackson's Mill (Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson's boyhood home) are within a reasonable driving distance, offering unique insights into the region's past. While "restaurants and shops" are a "short drive away," the park's primary draw remains its tranquil mountain setting, making it ideal for those who prioritize peace and nature over immediate urban conveniences.
