For locals in Iowa, particularly those in the Des Moines metropolitan area, Rocklyn Mobile Home Park presents a housing option that warrants careful consideration. One review highlights a key positive aspect: "It's a nice quiet place tucked out of the way of heavy traffic." This indicates a desirable living environment for those seeking peace and quiet within a major city's vicinity. Additionally, the same review notes that "The trailers, although are quite old, appear to be in pretty good shape," suggesting that the homes are maintained to a reasonable standard.
However, it is crucial for prospective residents to be fully aware of and thoroughly investigate the significant concerns raised in another detailed customer review. This review describes the park as "straight up trash" due to issues with noise, rudeness, cleanliness, and parking, particularly from some residents. It also mentions "all these fees and charges on your monthly rent one them being maintenance fee but don’t expect any help," a "fire happened house never got fixed so if you need anything you have go to grimes," and concerns about neighbors smoking and "bringing danger to the community." These are serious allegations regarding management responsiveness, community standards, and resident quality of life.
While the affordable rent might be a draw, as mentioned in the negative review, potential residents are strongly advised to:
- Visit the park in person at different times of the day to observe the environment and parking situation.
- Attempt to speak with multiple current residents, if possible, to gather a broader perspective on daily life and current issues.
- Directly discuss all concerns regarding maintenance fees, management responsiveness, and community rules (including those related to noise, parking, and smoking) with the park management. Request clear documentation of all fees and what they cover.
- Understand the lease agreement thoroughly, particularly clauses related to maintenance responsibilities, rules enforcement, and potential penalties.
The suitability of Rocklyn Mobile Home Park for locals hinges entirely on how effectively the management addresses and resolves the reported issues, and whether the positive attributes of a "quiet place" outweigh the documented challenges. While mobile home parks can offer a cost-effective housing solution, a comprehensive and cautious approach to gathering information is essential to ensure a comfortable and stable living experience in Des Moines.
