Situated at 9,318 feet in the heart of the magnificent San Juan Mountains, this property is unique in offering a combination of motel rooms, cozy cabins, and dedicated RV park facilities. The resort is specifically tailored to embrace the area's rich history and its year-round outdoor lifestyle, with a strong focus on serving the off-road and adventure community that flocks to Silverton's renowned high-country trails.
The RV park section, particularly the newer development, provides travelers with essential, modern amenities while maintaining a quiet, peaceful atmosphere appreciated by guests. The new RV section is mostly a clean, level gravel lot, which is a practical and reasonable choice in this arid, high-altitude climate. Guests can expect a very high standard of cleanliness, with the restroom building being meticulously maintained daily. This dedication to facility quality ensures a comfortable stay despite the rugged mountain setting.
What truly sets Red Mountain RV Park apart is its unbeatable location. It sits right on the edge of the historic downtown area, offering breathtaking, panoramic scenic views, yet everything the small town has to offer is within a short, five-minute walk. This means easy access to local shops, eateries, and key services like the grocery and hardware stores, which are located directly across or a few doors down from the property. Furthermore, the RV park is uniquely positioned right next to the railway siding where the iconic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train reverses, providing a unique, up-close view that is a delight for many guests. Whether you are seeking solitude for fishing and photography or non-stop action on the Alpine Loop, Red Mountain provides a convenient and friendly launchpad.
The owners are known for being personable and hospitable, offering a genuine, non-opulent, authentic Colorado experience that is exactly what visitors to Silverton should be seeking. It is a functional, clean, and strategic place to stay that truly connects you to the spirit of the San Juans.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I stayed on the new RV park side of the property so I cannot comment on rooms. The park was clean, the restroom building was cleaned to a high standard every day. I did not use the Wi-Fi.The property is conveniently located across the street from the grocery, a few doors down from the hardware store, and a five minute walk to the center of town. The new RV park section is all gravel. Not my favorite, but in an arid climate, perfectly reasonable. A camping carpet helped to make the situation much better. There are two large fields on either side of the new section where you can exercise your pets. You’re also close to the river if you want to go wading, or take your dog for a swim. The Durango train runs by the campground, and reverses in the siding next-door. Never got tired of seeing me trains. If you are there for the Fourth of July, the Silverton fireworks are in your living room!I had no issues while I was staying here. The only suggestions I would have would be to offer online booking rather than having to connect via a phone call. While personal interaction is great, when you are on the road and need to know that you have a place to go to, Online booking would be much easier. The other suggestion would be to offer discounts for long-term stays. Their prices are fair, but on the high end and a discount for staying a week or month or longer would be A reasonable thing to do.
July 10 · Dave OBest place to stay in Silverton. Fantastic views and owners are very personable and hospitable. This isn’t a 5 star, opulent hotel with fake luxury. It’s not Vegas. But if you’re in Silverton, CO then that’s not what you should be looking for! It’s quiet and peaceful. You’re right on the edge of town, which offers beautiful scenic views but still within walking distance of everything Silverton has to offer.
June 20 · D VWe had a wonderful time with our grandson. This place was so convenient and stocked with just what was needed for cabins. Thank you for your kindness and great hospitality.
May 12 · Vickie HodgesThis is a wonderful place to stay in Silverton. We stayed in a hotel room. It's fully equipped with great housekeeping.
July 29 · Gator TexWe camped with our RV and Jeep. We didn’t stay in the “Motel”, but I can see they have several individual cabins. Very friendly hosts. Very convenient location, close to downtown Silverton, Several Jeep trails start right in town. Views are fantastic. I can’t say enough good things about Red Mountain RV Park and its location. The attached pictures are from our camp site.
