Recent guest experiences highlight a park in transition, with ongoing construction signaling improvements for the future. Despite any current appearance of being "run down" to some, many visitors have found it to be surprisingly quiet and welcoming, emphasizing its utility as a functional RV site. This article will delve into the specific details of Pelican Cay RV Park LLC, including its prime Key Largo location, the essential services it provides, its unique features and highlights as described by previous guests, and why it might be an ideal fit for Floridians seeking an authentic and practical Keys adventure.
Pelican Cay RV Park LLC is conveniently located at 299 Morris Ave, Key Largo, FL 33037, USA. This address places it squarely in Key Largo, the first and northernmost of the Florida Keys, renowned as the "Diving Capital of the World." This prime location offers unparalleled access to the unique marine environment and laid-back island lifestyle that draws so many to the Keys.
The park's location in Key Largo provides several significant advantages for accessibility and local exploration:
- Easy Access to the Overseas Highway: Morris Ave connects easily to the Overseas Highway (US-1), the main artery running the length of the Florida Keys. This allows for straightforward travel north towards mainland Florida (Miami is about 90 minutes away) or south deeper into the Keys towards Islamorada, Marathon, and Key West.
- Proximity to Water Activities: Key Largo is synonymous with water-based adventures. From Pelican Cay, guests have direct access to Manatee Bay and Barnes Sound, with easy access to both the Atlantic Ocean and Florida Bay. This means immediate opportunities for boating, fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving, including exploring the famous John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, the nation's first undersea park.
- Local Amenities: Despite its serene setting, the park is situated within easy reach of Key Largo's essential services and attractions. Guests can find local grocery stores (like Publix), a variety of restaurants (from casual seafood shacks to more upscale dining), tackle shops, dive centers, and other retail options for daily needs.
- Gateway to Florida Keys Exploration: Key Largo serves as the perfect starting point for an entire Keys adventure. From here, visitors can explore attractions such as the Christ of the Abyss statue, take a cruise on the historic African Queen steamboat, or visit Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park for land-based nature trails.
The blend of convenient highway access, direct water access, and proximity to both daily necessities and world-class recreational opportunities makes Pelican Cay RV Park's location a significant draw for RVers looking to experience the true essence of the Florida Keys.
Pelican Cay RV Park LLC focuses on providing the essential services and amenities that RVers need for a comfortable stay, particularly for those seeking a practical, longer-term base in Key Largo. While not a luxury resort, the park ensures fundamental conveniences are in place:
- Full Hookup RV Sites: The park offers RV sites with "full hookups," which typically include electric (30-amp and 50-amp service), water, and sewer connections. This is crucial for fully self-contained RVs, allowing for extended stays.
- Site-Wide Wi-Fi: Guests can benefit from "fast site-wide WiFi connection," enabling them to stay connected for work, entertainment, or communication. One review specifically noted the "Wifi was awesome," even allowing kids to get homework done.
- Laundry Facilities: A "communal washer and dryer" are available for guests' use, providing a convenient way to do laundry on-site. Access is typically via a code.
- Clean Restrooms and Showers: The park provides access to "bathrooms and laundry have a code everything was clean." This indicates that these facilities are maintained, although one reviewer noted they did not need them as they had an RV.
- Plenty of Parking: Reviewers highlighted "plenty of parking for an extra car," which is a valuable convenience, especially in the Keys where space can be at a premium.
- Boat Docks & Slips: As a combined RV Park & Marina, Pelican Cay offers "Boat Docks, Boat Ramps & Beach" access. It also provides "Convenient Boat Slips & Long Term RV Sites" with "electric & water hookups for your convenience" at the slips. The park offers "Direct access to Manatee Bay and Barnes Sound. Then easy access to Atlantic Ocean or Florida Bay."
- Long-Term RV Sites: The park explicitly advertises "Long Term RV Sites (No Subletting or Vacation Rentals Allowed)" with a focus on stays "6 months and longer." This makes it suitable for seasonal residents or those seeking a more permanent base.
- Friendly On-Site Assistance: As noted by a customer, "Humberto helped guide us into our spot and was friendly," indicating responsive on-site help.
These services underline Pelican Cay RV Park's commitment to delivering a functional and convenient experience for its RV guests, catering to both short visits and extended stays in the Florida Keys.
Pelican Cay RV Park LLC offers a set of distinct features and highlights that appeal to a particular type of RVer, especially those seeking an authentic Key Largo experience over a polished resort. While some past reviews mention a "dump" or "ghetto" appearance and current construction, positive feedback highlights key advantages:
- Authentic Florida Keys "True Living" Feel: Many guests, particularly those not seeking a resort, appreciate that the park "really gave that feel of true living in the keys." This suggests a more local, less commercialized atmosphere, which can be a significant draw for those wanting an unvarnished Keys experience.
- Exceptional Quietness: A standout highlight is its surprising tranquility. One reviewer emphatically stated, "Hands down the quietest place we have camped! We heard nothing but pure silence." This makes it an ideal retreat for those prioritizing peace and quiet.
- Reliable Hookups for Functionality: The park provides full hookups (electric, water, sewer) essential for RV functionality. While some older reviews mention potential issues, a recent positive review confirmed "provided a place to park our RV hook up for couple nights and be on our way."
- Good Wi-Fi Connectivity: Despite the general perception of the park, the "Wifi was awesome," and capable enough for "kids even got some homework done." This is a crucial amenity for modern travelers.
- On-Site Laundry and Clean Restrooms: The availability of "Bathrooms an laundry have a code everything was clean" ensures basic comforts are met, even if not extensively used by all RVers.
- Friendly On-Site Staff/Assistance: The presence of helpful individuals, like "Humberto," who "helped guide us into our spot and was friendly," indicates a positive interaction with park personnel.
- Ample Extra Parking: The availability of "plenty of parking for an extra car" is a practical benefit, especially in crowded tourist destinations like Key Largo.
- Ongoing Construction for Future Improvement: While currently active, the "lots of construction" is seen by some as a positive, with the expectation that "once all the construction is finished its going to look great!" indicating future enhancements.
- Combined RV Park and Marina: The park offers both RV sites and "Convenient Boat Slips & Long Term RV Sites," with "Direct access to Manatee Bay and Barnes Sound." This makes it highly attractive for those who travel with both an RV and a boat.
These highlights suggest that Pelican Cay RV Park, despite its rustic appearance or ongoing work, delivers on its promise of a quiet, functional, and authentically Keys-style RV experience, particularly for those who know what they're looking for.

For Floridians, especially those intimately familiar with the unique character of the Florida Keys, Pelican Cay RV Park LLC offers a distinct and often suitable option for RV accommodations. It caters to a specific local sensibility, valuing practicality, a genuine Keys atmosphere, and often, a more budget-conscious approach to travel than what luxury resorts provide. This park is particularly well-suited for locals who understand and appreciate the "true living in the Keys" feel, where the focus is less on manicured lawns and more on access to the water and a quiet place to unwind after a day of Keys adventures.
Firstly, its location in Key Largo is an undeniable draw. For Floridians, the Keys represent a nearby escape, and having a conveniently located RV park, especially one with boat slips and direct water access, is a significant advantage. Whether it's a weekend fishing trip, a week of diving, or a seasonal escape from mainland Florida, Pelican Cay provides a strategic base without the extensive travel associated with more distant destinations. The ability to pull your RV in, hook up, and immediately access the bay for boating or fishing is a major plus for the local Floridian who lives and breathes the water.
Secondly, the park's emphasis on core necessities – reliable hookups, functional laundry, and surprisingly good Wi-Fi – aligns perfectly with the needs of independent RVers. Many locals own well-equipped RVs and don't require external restrooms or showers. What they value most is a stable, quiet spot, and Pelican Cay's consistent feedback on being "the quietest place we have camped" is a powerful testament to its ability to provide a peaceful retreat. This allows Floridians to genuinely relax and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Keys without the distractions of a bustling resort.
Finally, the "authentic" vibe, even with ongoing construction, resonates with those who prefer a less polished, more real Keys experience. It's not a place designed to impress with extravagance, but rather to serve as a practical and friendly community. For Floridians who value good value, genuine local interactions (like friendly greetings from neighbors), and a place that feels like a stepping stone to the Keys' natural wonders rather than a destination in itself, Pelican Cay RV Park LLC offers a suitable and often preferred choice for their RV adventures.

Pelican Cay RV Park LLC Reviews
I gave 5 stars really had no issues every person i ran into greeted us an was friendly. There was plenty of parking for an extra car. You can tell there is lots of construction which is fine there was just machinery and parts there was nothing going at the time of our stay. It does look a bit run down and even scary to some but let me assure you no one gave us any trouble. It really gave that feel of true living in the keys. We really were just wanting a place to hook up and sleep. A resort was not what we were looking for an Pelican Cay was a perfect match for us. They provided a place to park our RV hook up for couple nights and be on our way. Hands down the quietest place we have camped! We heard nothing but pure silence. Bathrooms an laundry have a code everything was clean. We had an RV so didnt need their showers or restrooms. Wifi was awesome my kids even got some homework done. Humberto helped guide us into our spot and was friendly. I think once all the construction is finished its going to look great! We definitely will be back next year!
Nov 13, 2021 · Natalia BowenHad a one nights experience which lasted only 1 hour. This place is a dump and encourage anyone to stay away. Looked like a junk yard and very tight quarters. We had booked a two-week stay and quickly advised them that we could not stay in this place. No refund has been forthcoming. Please research this place thoroughly before booking. Our stay ended when the neighbors came home and turned up the music and then harassed us saying "oh don't like music". Felt very uncomfortable. This is not a campground, this is a ghetto - don't go there.
Nov 17, 2015 · Sharon CampfieldOnly giving one because I have to. PLEASE listen to the other reviews advising to stay away from here... we didn’t and it cost us. This place is beat up, run down and don’t let them tell you they are rebuilding from the hurricane because we were told by 2 people that were there last year that the place is exactly the same ... run down dump! The on-site manager Beau was drunk when we arrived to check in and asked my husband if he wanted to burn one. The next morning we contacted the owners, they couldn’t care less they weren’t even on-site nor did they make an effort to. Bottom line is don’t let them fool you. We were threatened by Beau with the cops and having our RV towed clearly there is something not quite right there.... *Beware*. We had 3 people come up to us ——apparently the on site manager has a bit of a problem with everyone there and is excluded from things because of his drinking and drugs. They ARE NOT REBUILDING they are a beat up run down, pile of rocks, not worth your time
Feb 17, 2018 · Sharron SnavelyWent with my wife for a weekend getaway. We had a great time, if you need a relaxing vacation without rush this is a great place. We stayed in the 50' House Boat it was great. We got to fish with the locals at the dock. We took the Canoe before dawn and came back around noonish. Great atmosphere. Say hi to the rooster for me.
Dec 03, 2012 · J SalLittle bit of a sketchy place when arriving at night, we were greeted by "this car doesn't look familiar to me".. (Well that because we just arrived and were looking for a camp site) They require payment upfront which is fine but Susan was hovering over me watching me when I was getting the money from my car. That being said, after we got settled in, she (Susan) was a lot more friendly and so were the other people at the camp site. They have a boat dock that surrounds the camp site but it has definitely seen better days, I would not recommend having little children walking/running on it. Fishing is pretty good from it at night. They have one bathroom for men and another for women. They were OK, it wasn't super dirty nor was it super clean. The ground is hard making it difficult to put tent spikes in the ground so make sure you have a hammer.
