As your local content writer, I'm here to give you a detailed look at why Northgate RV Travel Park is a highly recommended stop for our fellow Alabamians on the road.
Northgate RV Travel Park isn't aiming to be a resort with endless amenities; rather, it prides itself on being a "nice, simple campground" that excels at providing exactly what overnight and short-term travelers need. Its primary focus is on ease of use, security, and essential hookups, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free stay before you continue your adventures. Whether you're heading south to the Gulf Coast or north through the state, understanding the practical benefits of this Athens gem will help you plan your itinerary more efficiently.
Northgate RV Travel Park, established in 2006, is a straightforward and highly functional RV park located in Athens, Alabama. Its core offering revolves around providing a convenient and efficient stopover for recreational vehicle travelers. The park is explicitly designed as a "no frills" facility, focusing on the fundamental needs of RVers: a safe place to park with essential hookups. It primarily caters to short-term stays, emphasizing its role as an "easy on & off I65 overnight stop."
The park boasts "all pull-through full hook-up sites," a significant advantage for those with large RVs who prefer not to back into spots. This design ethos contributes to the "easy in and out" experience that many travelers appreciate after a long day of driving. While it may not feature extensive recreational amenities, its commitment to providing clean, safe, and easily accessible sites with reliable power and water has made it a preferred choice for countless travelers passing through North Alabama. The owners are known for their friendly demeanor and straightforward approach, which aligns with the park's simple and effective operational model.
Northgate RV Travel Park boasts an exceptionally convenient location at 1757 US-31, Athens, AL 35613, USA. Its most significant geographical advantage is its immediate proximity to I-65, being "Right off I-65, exit 354 in Athens, Al." This direct access from a major interstate highway makes it an ideal stop for travelers moving north or south through Alabama.
Despite being so close to a major interstate, many visitors note that the park is surprisingly "quiet" with "minimal road noise," allowing for a restful night's sleep. This is a crucial detail for an overnight park. Furthermore, its location offers excellent accessibility to local amenities. Guests appreciate being "close to a Walmart & Lowe’s & restaurants," meaning essentials, supplies, and dining options are just a short drive away. This convenience is invaluable for travelers who need to restock or grab a meal without venturing far from their route.
Regarding physical access, the park is praised for being "easy to get in and out of with a 45 foot fifth wheel & f-450 long bed truck," indicating its big-rig friendly design. However, some reviews caution about the entrance: "the entrance doesn't have a deceleration lane, and traffic moves fairly fast, so use your turn signals soon and begin a long deceleration." Additionally, due to "a deep drainage ditch on either side of the entrance, it would be prudent to take a very wide swing into the entrance." Despite these minor navigational notes, the overall consensus is that the park is very accessible for large vehicles, making it a practical choice for all types of RVers.
Northgate RV Travel Park focuses on delivering essential services that cater directly to the needs of travelers seeking a reliable and straightforward overnight or short-term stay.
- Full Hookup Sites: The park offers "all pull-through full hook-up sites," ensuring convenience for all RV sizes. This includes "power and water" connections (typically 30 and 50 amp service available at all sites), and "sewer connections." However, one review noted "No sweet dump," implying that while individual sites have sewer, there might not be a separate dump station for those who only need to dump. However, other sources indicate that "sanitary dump facilities" are available on-site, and full hookups would inherently provide this. Direct clarification upon booking is always recommended.
- Pull-Through Sites: All sites are "pull-through sites," which is a major advantage, especially for large rigs and those only staying for a night or two. This eliminates the need for difficult backing maneuvers. Sites are described as being "up to 120 feet long."
- Level, Gravel Sites: Reviewers mention "gravel pull-through sites" that are generally "level" or "fairly level." This makes setting up your RV quick and easy.
- Overnight / Short-Term Focus: The park explicitly states it is "exclusively a short term park" and "does not encourage long-term stays," with "no weekly or monthly rates." This clear focus ensures that sites are generally available for those needing a brief stop.
- Cash or Check Only Payment: The park's website explicitly states, "Cash or Check only. We DO NOT accept Debit Cards, Credit Cards or Apps." This is a crucial detail for guests to be aware of before arriving.
- Local TV Access: One reviewer noted being "able to get local TV stations," which is a small but appreciated amenity for quick entertainment.
- Wi-Fi: Public information indicates "Wireless internet throughout the park," although some individual reviews mention issues with connectivity, especially further from the office.
Northgate RV Travel Park distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights that enhance the experience for its specific target audience of overnight and short-term RV travelers.
- Exceptional Convenience to I-65: Its direct location "Right off I-65, exit 354" is the park's paramount highlight. This makes it an incredibly efficient choice for travelers, minimizing off-highway driving and maximizing time on the road.
- Big Rig Friendly: The "easy to get in and out of with a 45 foot fifth wheel & f-450 long bed truck" and the presence of "pull-through sites plenty long enough for our 40+ ft. motorhome with tow vehicle" confirm its suitability for even the largest RVs.
- Quiet and Safe Environment: Despite its proximity to the interstate, the park offers a "quiet" atmosphere with "minimal road noise." The "felt safe" aspect is also a significant comfort for travelers.

Northgate RV Travel Park Reviews
Right off I-65, exit 354 in Athens, Al. Easy to get in and out of with a 45 foot fifth wheel & f-450 long bed truck. Nice, clean, felt safe and close to a Walmart & Lowe’s & restaurants. No sweet dump, but not needed for an overnight or 2. Has power and water. I like the pull through sites.
May 03, 2025 · Jenny BlackburnWe camped here for the first time on our way back from Florida. It is a simple campground with easy access sites. There were no real amenities, but it was a perfect stopover with nice owners. There were about a dozen people that overnighter there the night we stayed. The only thing I would coach guests on coming from I65 is that the entrance doesn't have a deceleration lane, and traffic moves fairly fast, so use your turn signals soon and begin a long deceleration. Also, because of a deep drainage ditch on either side of the entrance, it would be prudent to take a very wide swing into the entrance. We were driving a 43' Class A towing a Chevy Tahoe, and we made it from the right lane, but not a lot of buffer. About a 5 on the pucker factor scale of 10.
Apr 02, 2025 · Michael HughesStrike three! Convenient stop but owner makes you feel he’s doing you a favor taking your money. 25% rate hike and that attitude just lost you a return customer. Stayed here about four times in last couple years but no more.
Apr 06, 2025 · David BohnPerfect for an overnight stopover, owners are very hospitable. Sights are reasonably level and are crushed stone. All utilities work as they should, we were cautioned about the city water pressure, and told to use a regulator. Looking forward to the aviary and the homing or racing pigeons. Good luck.
Dec 31, 2024 · Ron RichardThis was a great 1 night stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Very quiet. Easy access off Hwy 65. Will definitely stay again on our way through.
