Pros: The grounds are so beautiful! Super close to town, and to Mount Evans. The managers are very sweet, too.Cons: No laundry room, and the internet is not good. We used a booster and were able to stream TV/movies, but went a co-working space in Golden to get work done. There are cafes in Idaho Springs where you can work, but it's pretty touristy and you always have to pay for parking. - Monica Rose Photography

Cottonwood RV & Mobile Home Park Introduce

For Colorado residents looking for a tranquil mountain escape with unbeatable access to some of the state’s most iconic scenic drives and historic towns, the **Cottonwood RV & Mobile Home Park** in Idaho Springs stands out as a unique option. Nestled just off the beaten path on Chicago Creek Road, this dual-purpose facility—serving both short-term RV campers and long-term mobile home residents—offers a peaceful, picturesque environment that many traditional, high-traffic campgrounds simply cannot match. It’s an ideal choice for the local adventurer seeking a quiet retreat without sacrificing proximity to I-70 or the historic heart of Idaho Springs.

The park is highly valued by visitors for its **beautiful grounds**, offering a true slice of Clear Creek County's mountain scenery. Imagine being surrounded by the soothing sounds of Chicago Creek and the lush vegetation that gives the park its name. This immediate proximity to nature allows campers to unwind quickly after a busy week. The park's management is frequently described as kind and accommodating, adding a welcoming, community-focused layer to the stay, which is particularly appealing for Colorado locals who appreciate genuine mountain hospitality.

Cottonwood RV & Mobile Home Park is designed to function as a fully-equipped base camp, providing the foundational necessities for comfortable RV camping. This includes **full RV electric and water hookups** at the sites, ensuring a practical and convenient experience for all rigs. Furthermore, the park thoughtfully includes options for a more rustic experience with designated **Tent sites**, making it a versatile destination for different types of mountain travelers. The allowance of **Dogs allowed** is another significant feature, recognizing that for many Coloradans, a mountain trip is not complete without their canine companions.

However, as is common with many properties tucked into the mountain landscape, it is important for prospective visitors to be aware of the trade-offs that come with the beautiful, secluded location. Specifically, the reviews highlight that the Wi-Fi service can be inconsistent, requiring a booster for streaming, and the cell service can be “sketchy.” For campers who need reliable, high-speed internet for remote work, it may be necessary to plan for a trip into a nearby co-working space or cafe in towns like Golden or Idaho Springs, though this often comes with a small cost for parking in the tourist areas.

Another point of local note revolves around services like water fill-up and on-site laundry. While the park does not feature a communal laundry room—a common amenity in larger resorts—and the management's policy on filling portable water tanks for non-campers has received mixed feedback, the park does offer **Running water** and essential hookups for registered RV sites. This underscores the park's primary function as a tranquil, self-sufficient base for overnight and long-term stays, rather than a full-service travel center. Guests are advised to confirm the availability and policies of specific services directly with the park when booking.

Ultimately, Cottonwood RV & Mobile Home Park provides an excellent opportunity to be incredibly close to spectacular natural features like the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, the historic attractions of Idaho Springs, and numerous hiking and gold-panning opportunities along Clear Creek. It successfully combines the beauty of a mountain setting with the essential facilities needed for a comfortable stay, offering a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that prioritizes the natural surroundings.

What is Worth Choosing Cottonwood RV & Mobile Home Park

For the Colorado traveler, choosing Cottonwood RV & Mobile Home Park is highly recommended for its **unmatched natural setting and its strategic location as a launchpad for high-country adventures**. It offers a compelling value proposition that prioritizes peace, beauty, and accessibility over resort-style amenities.

Firstly, the sheer **beauty of the grounds** is the primary draw. Being nestled along Chicago Creek provides a tranquil, shaded, and scenic environment that immediately feels like a true mountain escape, unlike many paved or densely packed RV parks. This atmosphere is complemented by the **friendly managers** who contribute to a pleasant, neighborly stay.

Secondly, its location is ideal for hitting two of the biggest draws in Clear Creek County: the historic town of **Idaho Springs** and the high-alpine drive up **Mount Evans**. You can start your scenic drive to the summit of a 14,000-foot peak from your site and be back in the afternoon, or quickly run into town for a meal, all without spending hours on the road. The ease of access from I-70 further solidifies its practical advantage.

While the park may lack a laundry room and high-speed Wi-Fi, this is a conscious trade-off for a truly peaceful, less-commercialized stay. This park is best for self-sufficient campers and travelers who want to disconnect—or who are prepared with a booster for limited connectivity—and whose priority is the stunning mountain location, full RV hookups, and the freedom to bring their dog along for the adventure. If your priority is a beautiful, peaceful, and perfectly positioned base camp for exploring the highest parts of the Colorado Rockies, Cottonwood RV & Mobile Home Park is an excellent choice.
