Furthermore, it's positioned between a busy street and Amtrak rail tracks. While this location ensures easy access to attractions and transportation, guests should be aware that noise from both the street and occasional trains can be expected.
Despite the potential for ambient noise, the park's location offers unparalleled access to some of the Central Coast's most exciting natural attractions. Pismo State Beach and the famous Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area are just a short walk or drive away. This means you can quickly transition from your RV site to sandy beaches, ocean waves, or the exhilarating experience of riding ATVs on the dunes. The town of Arroyo Grande is also a mere three miles away, offering additional dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The ease of reaching Coastal Dunes RV Park and its immediate proximity to a wealth of activities make it a highly desirable base for exploring the diverse landscapes and experiences of coastal California.
Coastal Dunes RV Park offers a range of services designed to provide a comfortable and convenient stay for its guests, primarily focusing on RVers, though they also accommodate tent campers. Here’s a breakdown of the services you can expect:
Diverse Campsite Options: The park features over 230 level, green grass campsites. These include pull-thru sites capable of accommodating RVs up to 40 feet, offering full hookups (electricity, sewer, water, and cable television) and space for multiple vehicles. Back-in campsites are available for smaller RVs and trailers, also featuring full hook-ups with 30-amp electricity, water, picnic tables, and fire pits. Specific areas like El Capitan (10'-40'), Mavericks (18'-30'), and Malibu (17'-40') cater to different RV lengths.
Restroom and Shower Facilities: Throughout the park, clean restrooms are available. Hot showers are provided, which are noted to be warm and not timed, offering a comfortable experience. However, it's important to note that some reviews have mentioned instances of a lack of soap in restrooms and the pool being out of commission at times.
Laundry Rooms: For the convenience of longer stays, coin-operated laundry rooms are accessible to guests, allowing you to refresh your wardrobe during your trip.
Heated Swimming Pool: The park boasts a heated swimming pool, a great amenity for relaxation and recreation. It's noted that the pool facility is closed on Thursdays for cleaning and maintenance.
Tent Camping: While primarily an RV park, Coastal Dunes also offers tent camping sites. However, some tent campers have noted that the pricing ($60 per night, plus a credit card fee) is the same as RV spots, despite not utilizing hookups, which can be perceived as expensive for the amenities offered to tenters.
Pet-Friendly Environment: Coastal Dunes RV Park welcomes pets, allowing you to bring your furry companions along for the adventure, though they must be kept on a leash at all times in the campground area.
Firewood Availability: Firewood is readily available on-site, perfect for enjoying evening campfires and s'mores under the stars.
The park aims to provide a comprehensive set of facilities, ensuring a pleasant stay for most visitors, particularly those in RVs.
Coastal Dunes RV Park offers several features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for RVers and campers exploring the Central Coast of California.
Exceptional Proximity to Coastal Attractions: One of the most significant highlights is its prime location. The park is within walking distance to Pismo State Beach and the famous Oceano Dunes. This means immediate access to a wide array of outdoor activities, including sunbathing, swimming, surf fishing, beach strolls, and exhilarating ATV or buggy adventures on the dunes. The ability to easily reach these iconic Californian landmarks from your campsite is a major draw.
Friendly Staff and Clean Environment: Customer reviews frequently praise the "friendly people" and mention that the "place is always clean." This commitment to cleanliness and a welcoming atmosphere significantly enhances the guest experience, making visitors feel comfortable and valued during their stay.
Variety of Site Types for RVs: With over 230 level, green grass campsites, Coastal Dunes RV Park caters to a broad range of RV sizes and preferences. The availability of pull-thru sites for larger rigs (up to 40 feet) with full hookups and cable TV, alongside back-in sites for smaller RVs, ensures that most RVers can find a suitable spot with necessary amenities.
On-Site Amenities for Comfort: The presence of hot showers (not timed, though temperature not adjustable), clean laundry rooms, and a heated swimming pool provides essential comforts that enhance the camping experience. These amenities are particularly appreciated by those on longer trips or after a day of beach activities.
Operated by San Luis Obispo County Parks: The park is managed by San Luis Obispo County Parks, which often implies a certain standard of maintenance and a focus on public enjoyment of natural resources. This county oversight contributes to the park being "always kept in great condition."
Gateway to Central Coast Exploration: Beyond the immediate vicinity, the park serves as an excellent base for exploring the wider Central Coast. Visitors can easily take day trips to award-winning wineries, explore Old Town Arroyo Grande, or enjoy a show at The Great American Melodrama, ensuring that there are plenty of activities to fill any itinerary.
Pet-Friendly Policy: For many Californians, their pets are part of the family. The park's pet-friendly policy allows for a more inclusive travel experience, ensuring that furry friends can also enjoy the coastal getaway.

This place is great always friendly ppl place is always clean with showers and laundry rooms closé to the beach and all there is to see in the area
Apr 28, 2025 · Leia HenleyThis campsite is not a great option for tent camping. We were charged $60 plus the 3% credit card fee a night, which is the same as the rv spots even though we can't use the hookups. The park is sandwiched between a busy street with bright lights and amtrak rail on the other. The restroom has no soap and the pool was out of commission. The size of the campsites were pretty small.Tent sites in the area had filled up elsewhere, so we were grateful we found a campsite, but over all, the experience was lack luster for being $60. It is the most expensive campsite we've been to and it didn't feel much better. It looks the same as it did a year ago, so refer to those pics for reference.
Jun 11, 2025 · Nichole VarnerLove this camp site stuff are wonderful.. I have been going here for awhile and love it. Very nice and rangers take good care of the place can't say the same about the campers on holidays. Over all awesome job and will always come back.
Mar 02, 2025 · Elizabeth Abalos- OrtizWe considered this campground for a stay and drove through for an assessment. This place is miserable. Sites are extremely close together with no divider, everything seems in disrepair, vegetation is sparse and unkept. The pool is closed with a dirty cover in the off- season. To complete the picture, there are some permanents with the requisite janky additions to their old campers and belongings strewn around their site.Situated between train tracks and the road just feet away - couldn't do any worse if they tried. And top of ALL this, they currently want $57 for a site plus $10 reservation fee.
Feb 07, 2025 · Raymond StoecklinRv park with a great location. The facilities are rustic and basic, the full hookup sites are nice. I liked the fire pits at each camp site. Very long place with hundreds of sites, some are long term rentals and others are short term. The staff was friendly
