Camp Kalama RV Park Introduce
For Washington State residents and visitors looking for an accessible and amenity-rich outdoor experience, Camp Kalama RV Park presents a unique blend of convenience and natural beauty. Located directly on the banks of the scenic Kalama River in Cowlitz County, this park is a popular destination for both short-term travelers passing along the I-5 corridor and families seeking a dedicated base camp for fishing and regional exploration. It is one of the largest campgrounds on the Kalama River, providing a variety of camping options, from large, full-hookup RV sites to dedicated tent-only spots.
The primary draw of Camp Kalama is its direct river access and reputation for being situated near some of the best fishing holes in Southwest Washington. Guests are often drawn by the promise of fishing for salmon and steelhead right on the property. Beyond the river, the park is designed to be family-friendly and accommodating to all travelers, featuring amenities such as a dedicated playground for children and pet-friendly policies (dogs allowed).
However, potential visitors should be aware that the park, particularly under new ownership, has received mixed reviews concerning maintenance and operational consistency. While the natural setting, river access, and the efforts of certain staff members—such as "Mr. Bruce," mentioned in a review—are frequently praised, other feedback points to facilities that could be considered "run down," including bathrooms with cleanliness issues and operational inconsistency with services like the on-site store. The owners' focus has been described in some customer comments as being more centered on raising prices than on immediate capital improvements. Despite these reported challenges, the park’s potential for being an excellent fishing and family getaway is consistently recognized by long-term patrons and first-time guests alike.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Our reserved site was occupied by a crazy lady when we got there and she made it apparent in no uncertain terms that she wasn't moving. The campground dropped the ball on us. Mr. Bruce from the campground came and settled the situation. He was very nice and accommodated us as best as he could. We are 2 disabled grandparents with 5 grandkids aging 2 to 14. We ended up having a pretty good time but I doubt we'll go back. The store had an open sign on the whole time but no staff. Just a locked door. The bathroom we used was "fairly" clean but had mouse turds all over the floor.
September 02 · CoreyReally run down new owners don't care about fixing anything and prices just keep climbing wouldn't recommend until it gets straightned out.. it has lots of potential and could have excellent fishing.. owners don't care about staff cleanliness really nothing but money
September 02 · Pat OlsenSmallest RV spots I’ve ever seen. Literally no space in between RVs (at one point a travel trailer tried to park next to us but their slide out would have blocked our door). Office is never open and it’s very hard to get in contact with anyone. We decided to eat the cost and leave early instead of staying two more weeks.
September 07 · Ashley SmitWe pulled in and our "neighbors" obviously live there. The mess around their place was considerable - which we got to gaze at as we ate our dinner. We stayed in our RV - the spot was muddy, with enough water for the birds to play in. Good birdbath, I guess. Except our door opened into the mud...no way to move, as we needed reach the hook-ups.A good deal of road noise, which was unfortunate, but we accepted it.The site promised a fire pit. Nope.Did not dare go into the bathrooms...just couldn't...ugh.Upside: Kalama River is beautiful.*IF you stay here...pay the extra money and get next to the river. The rest of the joint's a mess. Will I stay here again? In an extreme pinch and OLNY nest to the river.
May 31 · Ronda LeeWe had a disappointing experience here. This seems like a spot mostly for people to long term live. Spots we did get were super tight together and no table or space. Unfortunately, had a negative run in with a long term guy who was a total jerk. And the manager was rude, confrontational, and not helpful after. It was really disappointing. Lots road noise because of i5 but if you’re a fisherman you may appreciate the boat launch (Trying to think of something positive). Overall, not a good experience and do not recommend.
