This park is known for its peaceful environment and essential amenities, making it a reliable choice for a short stop or an extended stay focused on nature observation. This article will provide a detailed overview of Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park, covering its location, services, features, and why it's a suitable choice for locals and visitors exploring central New Mexico.
New Mexico offers a diverse range of RV experiences, from bustling resort-style parks to more rustic, secluded campsites. Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park fits into the latter category, prioritizing peace and proximity to nature over extensive resort-style amenities. This approach caters specifically to a segment of the RV community that values tranquility, affordability, and direct access to outdoor activities, especially birdwatching. The park's focus on providing clean, functional full hookups ensures that guests have the necessary comforts, allowing them to focus on the natural beauty and wildlife that the area is famous for. Its modest size fosters a quiet atmosphere, often difficult to find in larger, more commercialized parks, making it a true "hidden gem" for those in the know.
Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park is strategically located at 1481 NM-1, San Antonio, NM 87832, USA. This address places it directly on New Mexico State Road 1, just a stone's throw from the entrance to the internationally acclaimed Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. San Antonio is a small, unincorporated community in Socorro County, known primarily as the primary gateway to this significant bird sanctuary. The park's setting offers a rural, open feel, providing views of the surrounding landscape and minimizing urban distractions.
The accessibility of Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park is a major draw for visitors. Its direct frontage on NM-1 ensures easy entry and exit for RVs of all sizes, including big rigs. The proximity to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge means that guests can be at the refuge's entrance within minutes, allowing for early morning birdwatching or late evening wildlife photography. Furthermore, NM-1 connects easily to US-380, which in turn leads to Interstate 25 (I-25), New Mexico's main north-south highway. This connectivity provides convenient access to the city of Socorro (approximately 15 miles north) for groceries, fuel, dining, and other necessities. For those traveling between Albuquerque and Las Cruces, or exploring the wider central New Mexico region, the park serves as an excellent and convenient base.

- Good Value: Reviews indicate that the pricing is reasonable, especially considering the full hookups and proximity to the refuge. One reviewer mentioned the price was adjusted to match the form after a concern was raised, indicating fairness.
- Natural Surroundings: While described as a "gravel parking lot with one tree," the larger 13+ acre campground offers an "abundance of local songbirds" and a desert vista, appealing to nature lovers.
- Level Sites: The sites are generally level, making set-up easier for RVs.
- Cell Service: Cell service is reported to be good throughout the property and even within the refuge.

Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park Reviews
It's gravel parking lot with one tree. Hookups worked fine. Bathrooms and shower were dirty when we arrived. Proprietor came over and handed us a form to fill out for registration and then told us the price was higher than shown on the form, because it was a typo. After I asked him if the bathroom and shower could be cleaned, he dropped the price to what was written on the form. And to his credit, he did clean the bathroom and shower. Quiet except that every few hours a train passed a couple hundred feet away. This woke us up in the night more than once.
Apr 26, 2025 · S ThompsonBeautiful quiet place, near the entrance of Bosque del Apache. Great welcome, easy going. Park is for sale and a little bit overdue. One shower in small place but nice hot water.
Oct 27, 2024 · Barbara BakkerGreat small campground just a couple of miles from the Bosque del Apache NWR. Flat gravel parking lot with hookups, clean bathroom and shower, plenty of hot water. Billy the owner is great and we enjoyed talking with him.If you're there for birds, you won't be the only one driving out an hour before dawn -- lots of folks staying here are doing the same thing. The wildlife refuge was terrific for cranes, swans, and various puddle and bay ducks.
Dec 25, 2023 · Ken BennettThis is a wonderful no frills park with full hook sites. Wildlife roams the area, and is generally a quiet place. We have enjoyed our stay very much. The owner is a wonderfully nice fellow that manages this friendly park, while treating you like family.
