Features / Highlights
Wyeth Campground boasts several features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for campers in Oregon:
- Abundant Shade: A significant advantage, particularly during warmer months, is the extensive tree cover that provides "a lot of shades" over most campsites. This helps keep the campground cool and comfortable, making it a more enjoyable experience even on sunny days and reducing issues with direct sun exposure.
- Quiet Atmosphere: Many visitors appreciate the "quiet" nature of the campground. This suggests a peaceful environment conducive to relaxation, reading, and enjoying the sounds of nature without excessive noise, making it ideal for those seeking tranquility.
- Affordable First-Come, First-Served Sites: At "20 a night," the pricing is noted as "very good price," making it an economical option for camping. The "first come first serve" policy means that while reservations aren't possible, it offers flexibility for spontaneous trips, though arriving early is advisable during peak seasons.
- Access to Waterfall Trail: A major highlight is the presence of "a trail at the south end that leads to a waterfall." This provides an excellent opportunity for hiking and exploring a natural wonder directly from the campground. Visitors should be prepared for a "scramble" and potential for getting wet if they are determined to reach the waterfall, indicating an adventurous and rewarding hike.
- Ridge Trails: In addition to the waterfall trail, there are "a couple of side trails that wrap around the ridge." These offer further opportunities for exploration, scenic views, and extended hikes within the immediate vicinity of the campground.
- Minimal Mosquito Trouble: Despite being shaded and near water, a review notes that there wasn't "too much trouble with mosquitoes," which is a significant relief for campers often plagued by these insects in other natural settings.
- Proximity to Columbia River Gorge Attractions: While not directly within the campground, its location in Cascade Locks provides easy access to the vast array of attractions within the Columbia River Gorge, including other waterfalls, scenic viewpoints, and recreational activities along the river.

For active locals, this proximity to adventure is invaluable. The mention of potential poison oak along trails serves as a useful and factual warning, allowing visitors to prepare appropriately and enjoy the outdoors safely.

Wyeth Campground Reviews
Nice campground with flush toilets. Most of it is shaded and we didn't have too much trouble with mosquitoes. There is a trail at the south end that leads to a waterfall and a couple of side trails that wrap around the ridge. The waterfall is quite a scramble so be prepared to get wet and climb things if you are determined to see it. There's poison oak everywhere along the trail. The only thing I felt the campground could have used was a dump for dishwater. You'll need to filter and pack out waste or just use disposables. Dumpster is near the restrooms.
Jul 06, 2025 · Maarten deVriendNice campground, lot of shades and quiet. First come first serve for $20 a night very good price. Ok restrooms, no shower but another nearby campground have showers.
May 07, 2025 · Sarut ChalermpongWe visited our friend staying at Wyeth. A beautiful and peaceful campground with pretty trails and a nice hike to a waterfall. Maintained nicely by the camp host. The bathrooms were clean and easy to access. The spots were spaced, so you don't feel crammed in there. The bugs were at a minimum too. It's very shady and relaxing to hang out.It was also close to the town of Cascade Locks where we grabbed a bite to eat. Drove over the Bridge of the Gods and back to get a nice view of the Columbia. We also visited the Bonnville Dam from there. A great central location to Camp.
Jul 03, 2024 · Sarah ChapmanGreat for somewhat primitive camping, as in no hookups for RVs. Wyeth is conveniently located in the center of the Columbia River Gorge and only 30 minutes from the outskirts of Portland. Tons of biking and hiking in close proximity. Plan on continuous noise from the interstate and train traffic. Camp hosts are awesome!Water is currently unavailable (August 2023) so bring extra with you. Enjoy the shade and cooler temps, typically, other than heat dome scenarios which push temps to 100+ occasionally. Welcome to the new normal.PS: leave your firewood home as in NO campfires! Also a new norm!
Aug 11, 2023 · Chuck OdetteNice compact campground. The sites themselves are relatively spaced out so you do get privacy from other sites. You will hear the highway traffic in the distance, it’s not too bad. There is also a railway line that goes along the interstate which gets quite loud especially with the horns. If you’re a light sleeper, keep that in mind. The restrooms had flush toilets but no running water when I went (it was mentioned on the website as well). Restrooms aren’t the most well maintained. The road is well paved throughout the campsite. There is a hiking trail located inside the campground. The best thing I would say is the location since it’s right on the Columbia River Gorge very close to the waterfalls.
