Wild River State Park, where the Group Camp is located, is renowned for its scenic beauty and diverse ecosystems. The park itself encompasses over 6,800 acres, boasting miles of trails, a beautiful stretch of the St. Croix River – a National Scenic Riverway – and a rich history. The Group Camp is specifically designed to accommodate larger gatherings, providing a dedicated space for groups to set up camp and enjoy their time together in a natural setting. It’s a fantastic option for those seeking a more communal camping experience, away from the hustle and bustle of individual sites.
Understanding the specific nature of the Wild River State Park Group Camp is key to a successful visit. This isn't your typical drive-up, individual site campground. As a group camp, it caters to multiple vehicles and larger parties, which often means different logistical considerations. The emphasis here is on shared experiences and embracing a more traditional camping feel, where some amenities might require a short walk or a bit of planning.
For those in Minnesota looking to organize a scouting trip, a family reunion, a church retreat, or just a large gathering of friends who love the outdoors, the Wild River State Park Group Camp presents a compelling option. Its location within a full-service state park means access to broader park amenities and activities, even if the immediate group camp area has specific rules and facilities.
Wild River State Park Group Camp is situated in North Branch, Minnesota, a convenient drive for many residents across the Twin Cities metropolitan area and surrounding communities. This location makes it easily accessible for a day trip or a weekend escape without extensive travel, a significant advantage for local users seeking a quick getaway. The park is well-signposted, making navigation straightforward once you're in the vicinity of North Branch. Accessibility within the group camp itself is a point to note. Based on user feedback, it's important to understand that direct vehicle access to individual tent sites within the group camp might be limited. This design choice contributes to a more pedestrian-friendly and quieter group camping experience, minimizing vehicle traffic within the immediate camping area. Wild River State Park Group Camp Reviews
Disappointing, overall. Thought we could drive up to the site and park two vehicles there since we included vehicle info during reservation. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Had to park in the lot and use their wagon to load and unload. Please review the contract, as I did not. Groupcampers could not use the facility to shower and etc.... although We saw ppl from the group camp walking to the main sites to shower... The first hour of arriving and setting up, one ranger came to our site and said we didn't have parking passes, although we did and was displayed on the dash. Second day, while going for a hike, one ranger Russ met us at the restroom facility while we were taking a break and started going off about food and bears. And yes, it was obvious they monitored, because we already left the site and walked a trail down to get to the restroom area. When the ranger met us, he asked if we were at the groupsite #X. Later that day, a third ranger came to our site and said we were not allowed to use the main campground facilities and took out the contract to show us. We only went to the restroom twice, and each time we went, it was empty.Don't waste your time at this campground. Have never been to a campground that has rangers monitoring your every move. Group sites were close to one another and very open. Has 2 outhouse and one water pump.
