White Acres Campground

3022 Boston Rd, Bardstown, KY 40004, USA

3.0
It is a 5 star for being so close to Bardstown. The bathrooms are a little far from the sites and in need of work (we used our own). Otherwise, the sites were adequate. The sites are gravel but most are overgrown with grass. I think the owner/manager is trying to make some improvements. He is very nice and accommodating. There was a mix up and we didn't get the site that we had reserved. He told us that if we didn't like the new site he would gladly give us our money back and I actually think the new site was a better choice. It was also quiet. - The Nanny

This strategic address places it just about five miles off the Bluegrass Parkway, ensuring easy access for travelers from across Kentucky and beyond. Its proximity to Bardstown, often lauded as one of America's most beautiful small towns and the "Bourbon Capital of the World," is a significant advantage. This allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of a rural setting while being only a short drive from Bardstown's historic sites, distilleries, restaurants, and unique shops.

The accessibility of White Acres Campground is a notable highlight. The gravel roads within the campground are suitable for RVs of various sizes, including big rigs, with many pull-through sites available for easy parking and departure. While some sites might have overgrown grass over the gravel, the overall consensus is that the sites are adequate and efforts are being made to improve them. The short distance from a major parkway means less time navigating complex routes and more time enjoying your destination. This makes it an excellent choice for an overnight stop on a longer journey or a central base for exploring the rich heritage of Nelson County. The quiet location, despite being so close to a bustling town, provides a serene environment, making it easy to relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing.

  • Cabin Rentals: Offers cabin/cottage rental options for those preferring a non-camping accommodation.

  • Accommodating and Friendly Management: Multiple reviews commend the owner/manager for being very nice, helpful, and accommodating, even in cases of reservation mix-ups.
  • Scenic Surroundings: Situated in a very pretty area, offering pleasant views and natural beauty.
  • Gravel Sites: All sites are gravel, providing a stable surface, although some may have overgrown grass.
  • Opportunity for Improvements: There's an acknowledgment from visitors that the owner/manager is actively working on making improvements, indicating a commitment to enhancing the camper experience.
  • Flexible Site Assignment: The willingness of the management to offer refunds or alternative, potentially better, sites if a reserved spot isn't satisfactory is a strong positive.
  • Direct Access to Key Attractions: Positioned well for day trips to Louisville, Mammoth Cave, Churchill Downs, and various distilleries.
  • Outdoor Games: Offers horseshoes and a playground for kids.
  • Nearby Lake Access: Close to Sympson Lake (about 1 mile away) which is suitable for fishing (bass fishing), hiking, boating, and other watersports, although access may require a hike.
  • Shaded and Open Sites: Campers have the option of shaded sites (recommended to ask for) or those in open areas.

It's worth noting the feedback regarding the bathrooms being "a little far from the sites and in need of work." While this might be a consideration for some, many RVers will use their onboard facilities, and the friendly and accommodating nature of the owner often outweighs such minor inconveniences. The proactive approach of the owner in resolving site mix-ups and offering alternatives speaks volumes about their dedication to customer satisfaction. The mention of "overgrown with grass" on gravel sites, while a minor aesthetic point, also suggests a natural, less manicured feel that some campers may prefer. The general consensus points to a campground that, while perhaps not luxurious, offers a very practical, quiet, and friendly environment for a genuine Kentucky camping experience.
