It's a place designed for those who live for adventure, offering convenient access to countless miles of trails and pristine waterways. Whether your passion is tearing up ATV trails, casting a line for the next big catch, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the forest, Whispering Pines RV Park provides the perfect launching point for your Idaho adventures.
What truly sets Whispering Pines RV Park apart, according to local visitors, is its winning combination of fantastic location, full hookups, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere, all offered at a great price. Reviewers consistently highlight the "awesome location" and the convenience of "full hookups" at each site, which includes water, electrical, and sewer. While some note that the "spaces are tight compared to Forest Service spots," the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with the "atmosphere and full hookups for a great price" more than making up for any minor spatial limitations. The "hosts at the Campground were great!", a sentiment echoed by multiple guests who appreciated their welcoming and accommodating nature. Visitors are drawn by the promise of excellent fishing, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and quad riding – all "right there" at their fingertips. This park embodies the spirit of Idaho's outdoor lifestyle, making it a highly suitable choice for locals looking to explore their home state's natural treasures.
Whispering Pines RV Park is conveniently situated at 101 Wapati Rd, Elk River, ID 83827, USA. This location places it right on the edge of Elk River, a small, charming town nestled in the heart of Idaho's Clearwater National Forest. Elk River is renowned as a hub for outdoor recreation, attracting visitors year-round for its diverse range of activities.
For residents across Idaho, accessing Elk River and Whispering Pines RV Park involves a scenic drive through the state's beautiful landscapes. From major population centers like Boise, the journey typically involves heading north on US-95, then connecting to various state highways leading to Elk River. From areas like Coeur d'Alene or Moscow in Northern Idaho, the drive would be southward through forest roads and state routes. While the park itself is easily accessible once you reach Elk River, visitors should be prepared for typical rural Idaho roads – they may be winding and can be impacted by weather conditions, especially during winter or early spring. It's always a good practice to check local road conditions before heading out, particularly if planning a trip during the shoulder seasons.
The park's location offers immediate access to hundreds of miles of thrilling four-wheeler (ATV/OHV) trails, making it a paradise for off-road enthusiasts. Beyond motorized recreation, the surrounding area is teeming with opportunities for fishing in nearby lakes and rivers, mountain biking through scenic forests, and hiking various trails that wind through the wilderness. The close proximity to the General Store and the Log Lodge restaurant (though services at the latter may vary, as noted in a recent review) means that while you're immersed in nature, essential amenities and a taste of local flavor are just a short walk away. This blend of remote adventure and nearby conveniences makes Whispering Pines RV Park an ideal base for exploring Idaho's backcountry.

Huckleberry Delights: The local Huckleberry Ice-cream and pancakes (if available at the lodge) are a distinct and delicious highlight, offering a taste of regional Idaho flavor.
Suited for ATV/OHV Enthusiasts: With "hundreds of miles of exhilarating four-wheeler trails" accessible directly from the park, it's a prime destination for off-road adventure seekers.

Knowing that a helpful and personable host is available nearby can make all the difference for a relaxed and enjoyable stay.
While the absence of on-site public bathrooms or reliable Wi-Fi might require some adjustment for certain travelers, for many Idahoans who come prepared for an authentic outdoor experience in their self-contained RVs, these are minor points. In fact, the remote nature and limited connectivity can be seen as a feature, encouraging a true disconnection from daily distractions and a deeper immersion in nature. The nearby General Store, with its famous Huckleberry Ice-cream, adds a delightful local flavor and convenience that rounds out the experience. Whispering Pines RV Park truly offers a comprehensive and authentic Idaho outdoor getaway, making it an excellent and frequently revisited choice for locals.

Whispering Pines RV Park Reviews
Awesome location! Full hookups! Spaces are tight compared to Forest Service spots but the atmosphere and full hookups for a great price made up for it. The hosts at the Campground were great! Only good for RVs as there are no bathroom amenities on site. The General Store and the Log Lodge restaurant were just a quick walk and both had great food and service. The Huckleberry Ice-cream and pancakes were to die for. Great fishing, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and quad riding all right there. We will be back!
Aug 08, 2022 · RichS LegoThis was ok for a quick stay but all but a few sites appeared to be long term. We were the only ones coming in for a quick trip. There is no wifi, no bathrooms and if you need something, you just go knock on the door of the camp host's RV. If you need wifi, you can go to the library and maybe get intermittent coverage. We couldn't get any wifi at the lodge. The campground is small with one row. All the pull thru sites looked like long term and the back in sites were right and short. Because no one was coming in for the site next to us, they did we could park our truck there. I know it says there is a laundry room but I have no idea where it was. The lodge has a for sale sign in the window and we are told by a lady who lives in town that they weren't serving food anymore. The lodge only had huckleberry ice cream so you had to go to the ice cream and coffee shop across the street. It really is pretty remote so you need to be coming for a specific reason. There are a lot of ATV riders in the area. The camp hosts were very nice.
Aug 05, 2024 · Donna SmithThis is a fantastic campground on the weekends. During the week, you have logging trucks on the main roads, using compression breaks. Not their fault. The campsites, bathrooms, water stations, and lake are very clean and well maintained. It's a shame they have decided to allow small gas motors on the lake. Nice family camping.
Jun 20, 2023 · Sherry ArcherWe had so much fun at this place; our first visit but we will definitely be back! Super friendly people, great hosts, close to hiking and seconds away from the reservoir! Fun local restaurant and bar, and wonderful huckleberry ice cream to be had at the Elk River Lodge & General Store! What a treasure!
Jun 07, 2022 · Heather TibbettThe only reason I give this review 2 stars - is because the teenage boy that checked us in was very nice and the room was clean - other than that 0 stars. We reserved through Whispering Pines a room with two double beds - the double beds would have been fine for us and I did inform them I was bringing my two dogs and asked if I should be concerned or know anything. I did not receive an answer so assumed this wouldn't be a problem - once they close their store, you must access the room from the back of the building, through a door that is "always" unlocked via a very steep, long stairway - ok, we carried our 14.5 year old goldendoodle and luggage up the steep stairs and tried to settle in. #7 - the room with two double beds is basically a closet - there is no air conditioning or window to get any air flow. No fan. My husband and I realized there was no way we could leave our dogs in that room while we attended the wedding that we came to town for the next day. We couldn't breath in the room, much less leave our dogs in there to attend the wedding. We got back into our air conditioned car and tried to figure out what to do. We called - the manager wouldn't get on the phone and made the nice teenage boy inform us there was "no way" to give us a refund on the room - even for the second night that was booked. So we drove the 3 hours back home and missed my nephews wedding. (there were no others rooms anywhere close at this point) - Very disappointed in the way we were treated and expected to stay in a sauna - I am not sure how the stairs could even meet a fire code. Please ask many questions if you have to stay with this establishment or bring your tent - you would be safer.
