Nestled in the picturesque landscape near Neola, Iowa, West Lake Campground 1 stands out as a charming and well-regarded county park campground. For locals and visitors alike seeking a refreshing escape into nature, this site offers a balance of rustic charm and essential amenities. It's not just a place to park your RV; it's an inviting outdoor destination where you can unwind by the lake, explore scenic trails, and enjoy a variety of recreational activities.
While West Lake Campground 1 provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with the great outdoors, it's important to set expectations appropriately. This is a county park, meaning it offers a more natural and less commercialized camping experience compared to larger, privately-owned resorts. However, what it might lack in luxury, it more than makes up for in natural beauty, peaceful surroundings, and a strong sense of community among campers. Whether you're bringing an RV, pitching a tent, or opting for a cozy cabin, West Lake Campground 1 aims to provide a memorable and enjoyable stay for all.
West Lake Campground 1 is conveniently located in Neola, IA 51559, USA. Neola is a small community in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, known for its tranquil rural setting. The campground's address places it within a county park, which typically means it's situated in an area designed for outdoor recreation and natural preservation. While the exact driving directions within Neola might vary slightly depending on your starting point, the general location is easily identifiable within the broader West Lake Park area.
Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward, though as with many natural parks, some internal roads or sites might present minor challenges, particularly for larger rigs or during peak seasons when sites are full. One past visitor noted having to back into a site on a hillside, suggesting that while many sites are pull-through, preparedness for various site types is advisable. Cellular service can be spotty in the area, which for some, adds to the peaceful, disconnected experience, but it's worth noting for planning purposes. However, the availability of excellent Wi-Fi at the campground helps to bridge any communication gaps, allowing for streaming and staying connected when needed. The proximity to Neola means essential supplies and services are not far away, allowing campers to easily restock or address any needs during their stay.

Dump Station: For RV users, a dump station is available for proper waste disposal, which is essential for extended stays.
Excellent Wi-Fi: A significant highlight, the campground offers excellent Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing for video streaming and internet access, which is especially valuable given the potentially spotty cell service in the area.

Beautiful County Park campground. Electric hookup only. No water or sewer at campsites. There is a pit toilet, an outhouse. One water faucet. Most sites are pull through but they were all full so we backed into a campsite on the side of the hill. Rude neighbor had loose viscous dog that attacked my wife and our miniature poodle that was on a leash. Excellent Wifi. We were able to stream video. Good thing because cellphone service was spotty for calling and cellphone hotspot wouldn't work. Too many trees for Starlink too. Lovely singing birds woke us in the morning.

There are some good trails here along with canoe and paddle boat rental. They have a dock for boats with telling motors being allowed. Also a sand volleyball court and at least one basketball hoop.
Jul 19, 2020 · Nick RedinbaughEh.. It was a place for us to crash for a night on the way through from Utah to the Midwest. We stayed in Camp loop #1 on Thursday, June 13th. Rolled in at about 6pm. Glad we got here when we did because it filled up fast. A solid 8 RVs came by looking for a spot after it filled up.It's about 25 miles outside of Omaha so it's seems to be a weekend destination for them. There were a few people that came and set up a tent then left. For 20 bucks people will claim their spot a day ahead of the weekend so be prepared for that. Happens all the time everywhere but some places have cracked down on it.Loop #1 is a bit wonky, People park in the pull throughs backwards so the passenger sides of the RVs are looking at each other... Didn't have a chance to check out the park, from what we saw it looked nice. The park staff we encountered were knowledgeable and friendly but annoyed at the tent place holders and wonky parking. So, come early and forget just passing through on a weekend.

Jun 26, 2025 · Sheri SmithCampground 1 has 6 pull through spots and 4 back in spots. Electric only at each site. Very quiet and relaxing spot. The park is extremely well maintained. They usually mow on Wednesdays if you care about that stuff.
