West Lake Campground Reviews
I thought by leaving on a Thursday night, right as school is starting that I would have a chance to get a first come first serve spot. If you are going to bother with this spot make sure you get a reservation. But even then I would be hesitant after my experience. When I arrived at the campground, it wasn't obvious that the campground was full. There were 2 empty spots and I parked in one. I got out to go pay for the spot. I walked with my dog to the entrance where the campground manager was camping. I asked him how I could pay for the spot. He asked what spot, and I replied and he said “That spot is reserved, there are no more first come first serve spots. You need to vacate the property.” So I say “Thanks” and turned around. I am walking back to the car. I am clearly leaving. I am on the phone with my buddy who was going to meet me here. The campground manager followed me back to my car in a golf cart. And he says “See that spot is reserved. You need to leave.” as he points to a tiny non-noticeable piece of paper that I could barely see 15 feet away from it. I replied “I am leaving, you don’t need to be a jerk about it." He then sped off in his golf cart. A couple suggestions I have are - one if someone is clearly walking to their car to leave, give them a chance to leave before harassing them. My second suggestion is to mark the reserved spots with a laminated neon paper that says that it is reserved. That way it is more obvious to the folks that try to get first come first serve spots.
Aug 18, 2023 · Zach CerviVery friendly camp hosts. Very clean, a short walk to the lake, and has spectacular views! We didn't want to leave.
Sep 10, 2024 · Travis HelbertAn amazing quiet campground!! Tom and Sandy were kind and helpful! The vault bathrooms were very clean. The scenery of the lake, mountains, and wildlife was a delight to wake up and fall asleep too. I couldn't believe my eyes, but I saw a Bald Eagle 10 ft away from me. What an amazing experience!! Thank you ❤
Sep 03, 2021 · S JAmazing small campground! The campground hosts are super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The bathrooms and sites are clean. There's a hand sanitizer outside of the bathrooms near the center in addition to a water spout (likely others as well). The sites are all decently spaced, which we greatly appreciated. You can hear some road noise, if that's an issue for you.West lake is just under a mile around and from our site it's about 1/4 mile walk via trail to Dowdy or 1/4 mile to the little grocery store the opposite direction. You can't swim, but you can paddle board or kayak. And the fishing is good if you're into that. There were fish jumping out of the water pretty continuously while we were there. We'll be back!
Jul 06, 2021 · Hethyr FouseAmazing campground and amazing hosts (although it sounded like the hosts we had are retiring). Either way, super clean campground. Lake is amazing, crystal clear and glassy in the mornings. Sites are well-spaced. I have gone here every year for my birthday for about 5 years now. Always a dream.
