This is a beautiful campground! 🤩The most unique feature is pretty much every campsite is waterfront! 😮 I've never been anywhere like this before. Usually I'm lucky if I can get something just near the water. Here your decision is which waterfront view would you like??👀😱There's a limited number of 30 amp only sites for people with smaller campers like myself. The 50 amp sites also have 30 amp plugs but they cost a couple dollars more each night. Most sites the neighbors are pretty far away. In some locations. You can't even see the next campsite! So if you like to meet new people, this isn't really the place. 🫣 However, there are several dual camping spots where you could have a travel buddy in their camper in the other site right next to yours. Some of them even share an entry driveway. All of the sites are pull-through except a couple that are back in. And they are very large. I even saw a double site if you want to back two campers in right next to each other on the same site. And a group circle.😲There's plenty of room to park a second vehicle, some of them even a third vehicle, and a boat trailer! 😲All of the sites are spread out on three peninsulas. There are no garbage cans. 🗑️The dumpster is located up front at the exit.I also noticed the laundry🧺 was not operational. 🧐 The biggest issue I had was the ants! 🐜🐜🐜🐜, And they are everywhere, inside and outside crawling on everything 😣. It could be because of the wet weather ⛈️Just beautiful.🤩 I could get used to my senior park pass waking up to a view like this each day 👀 - Michael Scott

US Army Corps of Engineers Introduce

Are you a South Carolina resident dreaming of a camping trip where the serene waters are just steps from your tent or RV? Look no further than the US Army Corps of Engineers Campground in Modoc, SC. This exceptional campground offers a truly unique experience, setting it apart from many other camping destinations in the state. Imagine waking up to breathtaking lake views every morning, with the tranquility of nature surrounding you. This isn't just a campsite; it's a waterfront paradise designed for ultimate relaxation and enjoyment, perfect for locals seeking an escape right here in South Carolina.

What truly makes this campground a standout is its unparalleled access to the water. Unlike typical campgrounds where securing a water view is a rare stroke of luck, at the US Army Corps of Engineers Campground, nearly every single campsite boasts a prime waterfront location. This means your decision won't be about whether you can get a water view, but rather which magnificent waterfront vista you'd prefer to call your own for your stay. This abundance of lakeside sites is a feature that truly sets it apart and elevates the camping experience to a new level of enjoyment for all visitors.

Beyond the stunning views, the campground excels in providing spacious and private sites. Many campsites are generously sized, ensuring that you and your travel companions have ample room to spread out and enjoy your surroundings without feeling cramped. In some areas, the natural layout of the peninsulas and the strategic placement of sites mean that your neighbors are comfortably distant, even completely out of sight. This level of privacy is a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful retreat where they can truly connect with nature and enjoy quiet solitude, or simply have plenty of space for family activities.

For RV enthusiasts, the campground is well-equipped to accommodate various needs. While there's a limited number of 30-amp only sites for smaller campers, the majority of sites are equipped with 50-amp plugs that also include 30-amp connections, offering flexibility for different RV setups. The campsites are predominantly pull-through, making it incredibly convenient for maneuvering even large rigs, and they are impressively spacious. You'll find plenty of room to park not just one, but often two or even three vehicles, along with a boat trailer – a huge bonus for those planning to enjoy the lake activities.

The layout of the campground itself is part of its charm, spread out across three distinct peninsulas. This unique design contributes to the sense of seclusion and provides more extensive waterfront access for a greater number of sites. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a family adventure, or a solo escape, the diverse range of site options, including dual camping spots perfect for travel buddies and even a group circle, ensures there’s a perfect spot for every kind of camper.

While the beauty and amenities are top-notch, it's always good for prospective visitors to be aware of a few practicalities. Based on recent visitor feedback, it's worth noting that garbage cans are not present at individual sites; instead, a central dumpster is located at the exit. Additionally, the laundry facilities have recently been noted as non-operational. A common observation, particularly during wetter weather, has been the presence of small black ants. However, these are typically not fire ants, and bringing your preferred insect repellent or ant spray is a simple solution to ensure an uninterrupted, comfortable stay.

Despite these minor considerations, the overwhelmingly positive experience reported by visitors, from the beauty of the surroundings to the friendly staff and clean bathhouses, firmly establishes the US Army Corps of Engineers Campground as a premier camping destination in South Carolina. For those with a senior park pass, the value and daily enjoyment of waking up to such stunning views become even more appealing, making it an incredibly attractive option for retirees and seniors.
