Upper Stillwater Campground

Campground ★4.0

Ashley National Forest, FR134, Hanna, UT 84031, USA

4.0
At the risk of having too many people try to get a spot at this campground, I'll just tell you... This place is beautiful. There are no hookups at the sites, but there are flush toilets and good water available. It's completely paved. Fire rings and picnic tables at each site. It's kept very clean, which is highly unusual these days. Clearly the camp hosts do a great job, but the people who frequent this campground have also got to be doing their part. - D. Shane Rose

Upper Stillwater Campground Introduce

Introduction / Overview

Nestled high in the serene Rock Creek Drainage on the southern slopes of Utah's magnificent Uinta Mountains, Upper Stillwater Campground is a true hidden gem for those seeking a tranquil and well-kept outdoor experience. While some may hesitate to share its beauty for fear of it becoming too crowded, the consensus among visitors is clear: this place is a must-visit. It’s a beautifully maintained campground that offers a level of cleanliness and convenience that is often "unusual these days," as one reviewer put it. The dedication of the camp hosts and the respect of fellow campers create an environment that is both welcoming and pristine. This isn't a primitive, rugged camping spot; it's a thoughtfully developed site that balances the feel of the wilderness with comfortable amenities.

The campground is located just below the impressive Upper Stillwater Dam, a concrete marvel that is a sight to behold in itself. The presence of the dam adds a unique element to the landscape, complementing the natural beauty of the surrounding ponderosa pine, lodgepole pine, and aspen trees. While the shade can be sparse in some areas, the stunning vistas and peaceful atmosphere more than make up for it. The campground's popularity stems from its ability to cater to a variety of needs, from families with young children to avid hikers and backpackers. It serves as a perfect base camp for exploring the vast High Uintas Wilderness, with direct access to trails and plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun. For Utahns looking for a reliable, clean, and scenic escape, Upper Stillwater Campground offers a beautiful and hassle-free camping experience.
