Travel Camp

Nco Beach Rd, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA 98433, USA

4.0
Location is great, but lacks the maintenance required to ensure patrons don't damage their rigs due to tree limbs not being cut. I had to get on top of my rig to move or break branches that would otherwise cause expensive damage. Calling the office is a nightmare since no one answers. Only reachable via email. There also needs to be a standard for all guests ( even long termed ones) to ensure sites don't look run down.Staff is already aware of known electrical issues but the problem has not been fixed. I would not recommend staying here if you have a C class motorhome or 5th wheel, you are asking to gouge, scrape your rigs or rip your roof. Road wasn't wide enough to keep my 5th wheel on pavement the whole time. Everything is overgrown making the driveway much more narrow. Whole camp needs to be trimmed up. - Jairo Ayala

Travel Camp Introduce

Welcome to Travel Camp, a unique and dedicated camping facility nestled within the sprawling grounds of Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington State. Located at NCO Beach Rd, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA 98433, USA, this campground is a valuable amenity for authorized military personnel, retirees, DoD civilians, and their families. Travel Camp offers a variety of lodging options, including RV sites, tent spots, and cabins, making it a versatile choice for a weekend getaway or an extended stay. Its strategic location on North Fort provides a tucked-away feel, offering a peaceful retreat away from the main hustle and bustle of traffic, allowing guests to truly relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Travel Camp serves as a convenient and affordable base for exploring the stunning natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. While some recent feedback points to ongoing maintenance needs, particularly regarding overgrown vegetation and electrical issues, the dedication of the staff, including the manager Rebecca and camp host Fred, is consistently highlighted as a strong positive. They are noted for their hard work in addressing concerns and ensuring a positive experience for patrons. This commitment, coupled with the camp's comprehensive amenities, including full hookups and laundry facilities, makes Travel Camp a popular choice for those with base access looking to enjoy the outdoors right here in Washington. It's more than just a place to stay; it's a community hub for military families to connect with nature and each other.

Location and Accessibility

Travel Camp is uniquely situated on NCO Beach Rd, directly within Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), WA 98433, USA. This location offers both advantages and specific access requirements. As an on-base facility, access to Travel Camp is restricted to authorized patrons: active duty military, retired military, Department of Defense (DoD) civilians, and their sponsored guests.

To access JBLM, visitors without a DoD ID card must report to a Visitor Control Center (VCC) at either the Lewis Main Liberty Gate (I-5 exit 120) or McChord Field Main Gate (I-5 exit 125) to obtain a temporary pass. This process requires a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and an authorized DoD sponsor available by phone. Once on base, Travel Camp is located on North Fort, and while it's "tucked away," it's generally well-signposted within the base. The base's location along I-5 provides easy access from major population centers in Washington, such as Tacoma and Seattle, making it a convenient drive for eligible locals. However, guests with larger rigs, such as C class motorhomes or 5th wheels, should be aware that some internal roads within the camp can be narrow and overgrown, potentially posing a challenge for maneuvering and avoiding scrapes or damage to their vehicles. Despite these navigational considerations, the seclusion of the camp once inside JBLM contributes to a quiet and serene environment, away from highway noise.

  • Pet-Friendly: Pets are welcome with certain guidelines, including a limit of two pets per campsite and strict leash and cleanup rules. Pets are generally not allowed inside cabins.

While many services are available, some reviews indicate that maintenance of certain facilities, such as electrical hookups and tree trimming, can be an ongoing concern. Guests are advised to be prepared for this and to communicate any issues to staff.
