Trail Busters

142 Henry Martin Trail, Statesville, NC 28625, USA

4.0
I had reservations at trailbusters for the weekend of 10/18/18 to 10/20/18 however due to hurricane Micheal we were not able to come as we live in fl. I did forget to cancel, but with everything going on I forgot. Anyway Daisy called me on 10/18/18 and told me I really screwed her and to never come there. I would hope that she could have shown empathy and understood but instead she lashed out at me. May God bless her - Cheryl Miller

Its primary draw is its unparalleled proximity to Love Valley, making it the most convenient base for exploring this one-of-a-kind town and its surrounding private horse trails. While it provides essential services for RVers, its true spirit lies in offering a genuine connection to the local equestrian lifestyle and the unique charm of Love Valley.

Location and Accessibility

Trail Busters campground is ideally situated at 142 Henry Martin Trail, Statesville, NC 28625, USA. What makes this location truly special is its immediate proximity to the heart of Love Valley, North Carolina. This unique Western-themed town, established in 1954 by Andy Barker with a dream of building a real cowboy town, is known for its unpaved streets, hitching posts, and a strong equestrian culture where motor vehicles are generally not allowed in the "downtown" area on weekends.

Statesville, in Iredell County, serves as a convenient hub, with major interstates like I-77 and I-40 intersecting nearby. From major North Carolina cities:

  • From Charlotte: Approximately a 60-mile drive, typically taking just over an hour via I-77 N.
  • From Greensboro: Roughly an hour and 15 minutes, usually via I-40 W to Statesville.
  • From Raleigh: About a 2.5 to 3-hour drive, primarily via I-40 W.

Once you approach the Love Valley area, Henry Martin Trail leads directly to Trail Busters. Reviews indicate that the campground is "within about 100 yards of the 'downtown' portion of Love Valley" and is the "closest campground to the heart of Love Valley." This is a significant advantage, allowing campers to easily walk or ride their horses directly into town to experience its unique atmosphere, shops, and events. While some local roads leading to Love Valley can be rustic, the direct access from Henry Martin Trail to Trail Busters ensures that most RVs can reach the campground, though larger rigs should always exercise caution on narrower country roads. The accessibility to this one-of-a-kind destination is a major draw for North Carolinians seeking a truly different camping adventure.

Services Offered

Trail Busters campground, while not a full-service resort, provides essential amenities tailored to the needs of RV campers and, notably, horse enthusiasts. Its focus is on facilitating a comfortable stay for those looking to immerse themselves in the Love Valley experience.

  • Water and Electric Hookups: The campground offers RV sites with water and electric hookups (typically 20 and 30 amp service). This allows campers to have basic utilities for their RVs, ensuring comfort during their stay.
  • No Sewer Hookups at Sites: It's important to note, as highlighted by a reviewer, that individual RV sites do not have sewer hookups. Campers will need to plan accordingly for their gray and black water tanks.
  • Bathroom Access: There is access to a shared bathroom facility on the property for guests, providing convenience for those without full self-contained RVs or for general use.
  • Horse Stalls/Paddocks: A key service for equestrian visitors, Trail Busters offers 12x12 clean and safe stalls or 4 nice-sized paddocks with shelters for horses. This makes it an ideal spot for those who want to bring their equine companions and explore the extensive private horse trails around Love Valley.
  • Free Wi-Fi: While a reviewer noted the Wi-Fi connection might be weak, the campground advertises free Wi-Fi, allowing guests to stay connected if needed.
  • Firewood and Fire Barrels: Firewood is available upon request, along with fire barrels for safe and enjoyable campfires at individual sites, perfect for evening relaxation.
  • In-House Rental Rooms: For those without an RV or seeking alternative lodging, Trail Busters also offers three in-house rental rooms, providing a non-camping option for experiencing Love Valley. These rooms are described as clean and include amenities like TVs, refrigerators, and microwaves.
  • Pet-Friendly: Given its nature, the campground is generally pet-friendly, allowing guests to bring their dogs (and horses, of course).

  • Rustic Charm: The campground embraces a rustic, authentic atmosphere that complements the feel of Love Valley. It's not about luxury, but about a genuine connection to the setting.
  • Small and Intimate: With 9 RV hookups, Trail Busters offers a smaller, more intimate camping experience compared to large, bustling resorts. This can foster a more personal connection with the owners and other campers.
  • Opportunity for Unique Events: Being so close to Love Valley means campers can easily participate in or observe the various town events, horse shows, and gatherings that make Love Valley so special.
  • Friendly Owner: Despite one negative review regarding a cancellation policy, other reviews specifically highlight the owner as "very friendly and helpful," suggesting a welcoming atmosphere for most visitors.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a smaller, specialized campground with a unique focus on the Love Valley experience, Trail Busters may not run large-scale, publicly advertised promotions in the same way bigger resorts do. However, they do communicate their pricing and value directly, which can be seen as their ongoing "offer" to guests.

Based on available public information, their pricing structure reflects their services:

  • Camping Rates: Approximately $35 per night for each hookup (includes water and power) for one person. There's an additional charge of $10 per person for extra guests.
  • Horse Accommodations: Approximately $20 to add a horse with a stall, or $10 to add a person or a horse paddock for one horse. These rates are a direct "special offer" for equestrian visitors, providing essential boarding.
  • Room Rentals: They also offer in-house room rentals (e.g., Room 1 with a queen bed and futon for $75 for one person, with an additional $10 per extra person; Room 2 upstairs with two double beds for $75 for two people, with an additional $10 per extra person).

These structured rates are consistent and transparent, offering clear value for the unique experience provided. It's always advisable for prospective campers to contact Trail Busters directly to confirm current rates, inquire about availability, and discuss any specific needs, especially for groups or those planning extended stays with horses. Their website mentions promoting "current deals" and wishing guests a "wonderful and healthy Christmas and Happy New Year," suggesting they might offer holiday or seasonal incentives.
