Trader's Island Campground is conveniently located at 7608 Wittwer Rd, Arena, WI 53503, USA. This address places it squarely on the banks of the majestic Lower Wisconsin River Way, a federally designated "wild and scenic" river known for its undeveloped shoreline and numerous sandbars. For Wisconsin residents, accessibility to Arena is generally straightforward. From Madison, the state capital, it's a relatively short and scenic drive west, typically under an hour, following US-14. Travelers from Milwaukee can expect a journey of approximately two hours to the west, often involving a combination of Interstate highways and state routes that lead directly to the Arena area. Even from other parts of Wisconsin, the campground's central-southern location makes it a feasible destination for a weekend trip or a longer vacation.
The advantage of its location isn't just about the drive; it's about the surrounding environment. Arena itself is a small, charming community that serves as a gateway to extensive outdoor recreation opportunities along the Wisconsin River. This proximity means campers at Trader's Island have direct access to a vast stretch of the river, popular for paddling, fishing, and simply enjoying the natural beauty. The serene backdrop of the river, combined with the easy access from major population centers in Wisconsin, makes Trader's Island Campground a highly accessible and attractive choice for locals seeking a genuine escape into the state's natural landscape.

- Unique Pricing Model: The campground has a per-person, per-night pricing model ($25 per person/night), which is different from the per-site pricing common at many other campgrounds. This is important information for prospective campers to consider when budgeting for their trip.
- Fishing Opportunities (with considerations): While the Wisconsin River is known for fishing, campers should be aware that the area immediately surrounding the campground can become busy with other river users (kayak rentals, other campers), which may impact fishing success directly from the site. Trader's Island Campground Reviews
Absolutely stunning campground!! We felt so lucky to find a spot as cool and serene. Logan was truly the host with the most. We had an amazing night.
May 23, 2025 · tami shearmanThe view from our site(#5) was beautiful and the site was nice. I wanted to let people who are looking into this campground know it is hard to reserve a spot and get clear communication, there is running water from a spicket by the campsite and there is electric, but there is definitley no running water in the bathrooms…they are port a potties. The porta potties that were not by the tiki bar were full and one was wobbly. The ones by the tiki hut were better. THERE ARE NO SHOWERS!! For the tiki hit, we unfortunately were not sure when they stopped serving food and missed it when we wanted it. It was so busy and crowded in the evenings. We went there to fish on the river and we had our neighbors sitting in the river and the people from kayak rentals running into our lines so it’s not a good place if you want to actually fish. We were lucky to get the spot we had because we were told several different things when on the phone, but it was never clear which ones were available. The price is crazy for what the campground is because it’s $25 per person/ night. The owner did seem like a really nice guy and I don’t want to put down the campground just want everybody to know this info when planning and searching!
Aug 05, 2024 · Jessica ZitkoTried to make reservation by phone. Owner was very rude and told me just show up. When I arrived there was no one at campsite and staff working the bar were clueless. Very poor customer service. Wound up going elsewhere.
May 31, 2025 · Robert HolsmanFound this place on a short notice mad dash search to get out of our current campground due to severe storms & a possible tornado coming in a few short hours. We needed a place over an hour north of us past where the radar showed the storm front would be passing thru. Called this place and they told us we could could still check in up to 9pm. Got there just before dark, checked in at the bar, the ladies were absolutely wonderful! We asked for a site right on the Wisconsin River. She gave us a map to get to the camp site where we set up.Words cannot describe how beautiful and spacious this campground is. The scenery is incredible. Nice large sites where you're not right on top of your neighbor. They have several sites, 6 of which are right on the riverfront. Canoe rentals are available and the boat launch is right there. Real flushing restrooms as well as porta potties. No showers available here. Every site is divisible by sections of split rail fencing so you know exactly which space is which. All sites have electric and potable water. Tiki bar on the river just next to the boat launch. Sand volleyball on the opposite side of tiki bar. We were there during the eclipse, so some pics look gloomy. Absolutely beautiful place and will gladly be back to camp there again soon. This place is truly a hidden gem!Not sure what campground rules & guidelines they have since we didn't see them listed anywhere, (check out times, nighttime quiet hours, how many miles the canoe trips are, who to contact should any emergencies arise after hours, what times the tiki bar is open, etc). We didn't encounter any issues while we were there unless you count the guy a few sites down singing karaoke until midnight..lol! His singing was awful, but we were still up until around 1 am and had our own low playing music turned on that helped drown him out. Other than that, no complaints whatsoever about this place & we had a great time!We had our own kayaks and went kayaking on the Wisconsin River without anyone disturbing our belongings. The bar has ice, firewood, etc should you need to purchase any while you're there.Great campground and I highly recommend it. Really looking forward to returning before the weather changes.
