The Kosmic Tortoise aims to bridge this gap, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the stunning high desert landscape without sacrificing comfort. Location and Accessibility
The Kosmic Tortoise is situated at 4041 Peter Rabbit Trail, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277, USA. This address places it in the high desert region of Southern California, renowned for its unique flora, vast open spaces, and proximity to iconic natural landmarks. While it might feel delightfully secluded, the location is generally accessible for those traveling from various parts of California. It is important to note that reaching The Kosmic Tortoise involves a transition from paved roads to less conventional surfaces. As described by a past visitor, the journey will lead you "from a two way road, to a non marked road, to gravel, to dirt… then back to gravel." This indicates a progressively more rustic path, which adds to the sense of adventure and remoteness, but also suggests that visitors should be prepared for unpaved roads leading to the property. While some might find this route unconventional, it contributes to the secluded and immersive desert experience that glamping often promises. The property is notably closer to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (Marine Base) than to the main entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. However, Joshua Tree National Park is still an accessible drive, approximately 15 minutes from the 29 Palms entrance. This provides convenient access to one of California’s most beloved national treasures for hiking, rock climbing, and desert exploration. The relative ease of access from major Californian cities, combined with its secluded desert setting, makes The Kosmic Tortoise an appealing choice for those seeking a unique getaway without an overly arduous journey.

The Kosmic Tortoise Reviews
I wanted to love this place, but I can’t… and I understand it’s glamping, but online it says the room is kept at 70 degrees, it was a hot summer day and the dome was 74, there was no notification that they kept the remote for the AC, so I had to send a text to get it to the advertised 70degrees.*The toilet is a porta potty, while it was clean, it’s still a port a potty in the desert, I wish I would have known this prior to booking.*On their booking page it says they have an air mattress for a third person, I emailed Reena about a 3rd person, when we arrived, there was no air mattress. When I mentioned it to Evan, he said it would be an extra cost of $30, so I declined, happy we brought our sleeping bag instead :)Learn from me and pick Dome 2… you will have more privacy from the other patrons. People staying at Dome 2, drive through Dome 1 parking and eating area, our neighbors parked in front of our eating area, rather than in front of their own lodging… later it was moved, but I think there needs to be a bigger sign that shows where Dome 2 people should park vs Dome 1.While I wouldn’t stay here again, my kids enjoyed themselves. The grill and fire pit worked just fine. For location, you’re closer to the Marine Base than you are to Joshua Tree. Also heading to the Domes, you’ll go from a two way road, to a non marked road, to gravel, to dirt… then back to gravel.I will say the mattress was super comfortable!
Jun 28, 2025 · Alexis RMy hubby loves camping and outdoor cooking, I don't so the compromise is glamping. We've done it in other places and this has been the best when it comes to amenities. We had the food ready for the grill and I always bring half my kitchen so we can cook, but all that was not necessary here. Utensils, spices, plates, cutlery, French press, hot and cold water, mini fridge, heater, AC, comfy bed, lots of extra blankets, cushions, board games, star charts, one hammock, grill, outside fire pit. It was peaceful, our dome was facing east so we got to see the sunrise from the bed. The shower is outside, very cool to take a shower while seeing the stars. I wish we could have gotten there right at check in time to enjoy more of it.
Mar 25, 2025 · Yvonne BetancourtThe Kosmic Tortoise in Joshua Tree is the perfect desert retreat—peaceful, beautifully curated, and surrounded by stunning landscapes. Evan was incredibly welcoming and knew so much about the property and its unique connection to the desert, making the stay even more special. When we couldn’t get the grill started, he was quick to help, and later, when our fire went out, he responded right away to get it going again. He also shared fascinating insights about the land, the best spots to stargaze, and how to fully experience the retreat’s atmosphere. Whether you’re here to explore, unwind, or just take in the scenery, this place has it all.
Mar 17, 2025 · Demetrick McDonaldOverall, the location was good. However, we experienced several issues while staying here. The grill and the fire pit did not work. We followed the instructions exactly. That was disappointing. We could not control the heat/AC as there was no remote. Because we couldn’t control it, it was freezing at night. There were no lights outside and the bathroom is a port-a-potty.For what you get, I think it was too expensive compared to other lodging that have a real bathroom.
Jan 05, 2025 · Erin O’SheaStill, quiet, desert sunset, sunrise, night jewelled sparkling stars and soft shrouded milky way. Comfy bed, direct the air flow flap above head. Fan is just right. Dome is fun with view especially in the sunrise morning as it invites you outside. Fun showering outside enclosure in flip flops. I declined the cowboy trough soak with water like swimming pool water. Drove to Joshua Tree National Park after. Hosts were wonderful, friendly, supportive, welcoming, heart full. Helped me drive there, walked me through my place, gave art tour. If you want to use the gas fireplace I recommend watching how then practice in front of him to ensure you get it right. Love all the attention to details. Lots of thought and care. I was the only one. Felt safe. Next to owner's home with 1 other dome which was empty. It was 107 degrees, dropped to less at night. Early July. Very private.
