The Fishing Camp & RV Park

7601 US-165 N, Monroe, LA 71203, USA

3.0
Like everyone else has said, it is just gravel with some hook ups but it's fairly cheap and good in a pinch. My fiance and I stayed for 2 months and it wasn't too bad and even tho it's right by a train it was pretty quiet even going by. They had a laundry room that works alright but your better off going to town. The gas station is convenient being right there but the restaurant does seem to get smelly if ur staying right next to it... But u should already guess that... Not much room for parking either unless you only have a vehicle .. ur close to neighbors so try to ask ahead... The number was hard to find as well he isn't good with technology he uses a home phone and paperwork written down... Like I said it's good in a pinch. But not too awful. I made friends with a man staying here full time who is always willing to help and he keeps an eye on everything going on and made sure I knew I was safe. - Hope Shea

Located directly off US-165 N, this RV park distinguishes itself not as a traditional scenic campground, but as a highly accessible and functional stop for both transient travelers and those in need of a longer-term stay. While its aesthetic might be described as "just gravel with some hookups," its undeniable utility, affordability, and integrated services make it a valuable resource for many Louisiana locals and visitors passing through the region.

The Fishing Camp & RV Park provides a distinct experience, one that prioritizes essential services and accessibility over extensive recreational amenities. It's an establishment that caters to the practical needs of RVers, offering full hookups and the unparalleled convenience of having a gas station and a restaurant right on site. This blend of utility and basic comfort makes it particularly appealing for individuals seeking a straightforward place to park their rig, recharge, and access immediate necessities. As evidenced by user reviews, its proximity to a train track and restaurant may mean occasional noise or smells, but many find these manageable, especially given the park's overall affordability and pragmatic offerings.

This article will delve into the specific details of The Fishing Camp & RV Park, providing insights into its location, the services it offers, and its key features. We will also address important considerations for prospective visitors, drawing on real customer experiences to give a balanced view of what to expect from this unique Monroe, Louisiana RV park. For those who value function, affordability, and strategic location in their travels, The Fishing Camp & RV Park presents a compelling option within the Louisiana landscape.

Location and Accessibility

The Fishing Camp & RV Park is strategically located at 7601 US-165 N, Monroe, LA 71203, USA. This highly accessible address places it directly on a major highway, making it exceptionally convenient for travelers passing through the Monroe area. For Louisiana residents traversing the state or needing a base in the northeastern region, its placement on US-165 N ensures easy navigation and minimal detours, a significant advantage for those on the road with an RV.

The park's setting behind a gas station and an associated restaurant further enhances its accessibility and convenience. This integrated setup means that essential services like fuel, basic provisions, and dining options are literally steps away from your RV site. While this proximity contributes to its practical appeal, it also defines its environment, placing it more in a commercial service area rather than a secluded natural setting. Visitors should anticipate a straightforward, gravel-lot environment, designed for functionality rather than scenic views.

Despite its commercial surroundings, many RVers appreciate the simplicity of checking in and setting up. As noted by a reviewer, formal check-in procedures may be minimal or non-existent, often simply involving interaction at the gas station. This laid-back approach can be a relief for weary travelers. The ease of access from a main highway, combined with on-site amenities, makes The Fishing Camp & RV Park a remarkably accessible and efficient stop for quick overnight stays or even longer-term parking in the Monroe, Louisiana area.

Services Offered

The Fishing Camp & RV Park focuses on providing essential services for RVers, prioritizing convenience and functionality. Based on available information and customer reviews, the key services offered include:

  • RV Sites with Full Hookups: All 25 sites are equipped with city water, sewer hookups, and both 30/50 Amp electrical outlets, catering to a wide range of RVs.
  • Nightly and Extended Stay Options: The park accommodates both short-term overnight visitors and those requiring longer stays, making it suitable for full-timers or individuals on extended projects.
  • On-site Gas Station: A full-service gas station is immediately adjacent to the RV park, offering non-ethanol gas, diesel, and 87 octane fuel for ultimate convenience.
  • Tackle Shop and Live Bait: Reflecting its name, the establishment likely includes a tackle shop offering live bait options such as shiners, crickets, and cold worms, catering to fishing enthusiasts.
  • On-site Restaurant: A restaurant, often a seafood or local cuisine spot (e.g., "Craw Daddy's Crawfish & Oyster Bar"), is directly connected to the park, providing easy access to meals.
  • Laundry Room: A coin-operated laundry facility is available for guest use, though some reviewers suggest alternatives in town might be preferable for larger loads or extended use.
  • Restrooms and Showers: Clean restrooms with separate showers for men and women are provided, offering basic hygiene facilities.
  • Waste Disposal: Garbage facilities are available for proper waste disposal.

While the services are functional, it's worth noting that the park may operate with a more informal approach, as indicated by comments about booking via a "home phone and paperwork written down" and a lack of formal check-in procedures. This rustic administration is part of its unique character.

Features / Highlights

The Fishing Camp & RV Park offers a set of distinct features and highlights that cater to its specific clientele:

  • Exceptional Convenience: The most significant highlight is the unparalleled convenience of having a gas station, tackle shop, and restaurant directly on-site, streamlining daily needs for travelers.
  • Affordable Rates: Priced competitively (e.g., $25/night as noted in reviews), it offers a budget-friendly option for RVers seeking essential services without premium costs.
  • Full Hookups: Providing all three essential utilities (water, sewer, electric) at each site ensures comfort for RV users.
  • Good for Long-Term Stays: Several reviews mention the presence of "full-timers" and the suitability for extended stays, indicating it's a viable option for those needing a more permanent base.
  • Quiet Despite Proximity: Despite being near a highway and a train track, multiple reviews surprisingly note that the park is "pretty quiet," which is a considerable advantage.
  • Community Atmosphere: The presence of long-term residents can foster a sense of community, with "a man staying here full time who is always willing to help and he keeps an eye on everything going on and made sure I knew I was safe."
  • Proximity to Monroe Amenities: Being in Monroe, guests are close to various city amenities, including larger grocery stores, additional restaurants, and other services for needs not met directly on-site.
  • Pet-Friendly (with caveats): While pets are generally allowed, recent reviews highlight potential issues with enforcement of rules regarding unattended pets, which is an important consideration for pet owners.
  • Concrete Pads: Sites often feature concrete pads, providing a stable and relatively level surface for parking.

It is important for prospective visitors to consider the informal nature of management and to manage expectations regarding general tidiness, as suggested by reviews mentioning "black glass on the ground" and the need for prior communication regarding parking space, especially for larger rigs.

Contact Information

Address: 7601 US-165 N, Monroe, LA 71203, USA

While the provided information includes phone numbers, it's worth noting customer feedback that suggests reaching management directly might require some persistence due to a less formal, "home phone and paperwork written down" approach. Reviewers have mentioned finding the number hard to find or that the owner "isn't good with technology."

Phone: (318) 582-2679 (This number has appeared in some listings as a direct contact for The Fishing Camp Tackle & RV Park.)

The Fishing Camp & RV Park in Monroe, LA, while certainly unique in its operation and presentation, is remarkably suitable for many Louisiana locals, particularly those who prioritize convenience, affordability, and a pragmatic approach to RV travel. Its location directly on US-165 N is a significant draw, providing unparalleled accessibility for quick stops or easy commutes to surrounding areas for work or leisure. The integrated gas station and restaurant mean that essential needs are met without having to leave the property, a convenience that cannot be overstated for RVers. This "one-stop-shop" aspect minimizes planning and maximizes efficiency, which is highly valued by those on the move or with busy schedules.

Furthermore, the park's focus on full hookups ensures a comfortable stay for RVs of all sizes, accommodating basic utilities that are often the primary concern for campers. The affordable nightly and extended stay rates make it an economically sensible choice, especially for long-term residents who have found a welcoming and safe environment, as highlighted by a reviewer who "made friends with a man staying here full time who is always willing to help and he keeps an eye on everything going on and made sure I knew I was safe." This speaks to a community aspect that, while informal, provides a sense of security and camaraderie.

While it may lack the polished aesthetics or extensive recreational facilities of larger, more expensive resorts, its strengths lie in its utilitarian nature. For locals who understand the landscape of Louisiana and the value of a practical, well-located spot, The Fishing Camp & RV Park serves as a reliable and effective hub. It's a place where the simplicity of gravel sites and the proximity to commercial services are seen as assets rather than drawbacks, embodying a pragmatic approach to RVing in the heart of Louisiana.
