Sunrise Campground Introduce
For Utahns looking to find a serene and shady retreat from the summer sun, Sunrise Campground is an ideal destination. Tucked away in the mountains near Garden City, this campground offers a peaceful escape with a refreshing atmosphere and a quiet, natural setting. Unlike the more bustling campgrounds directly on the shores of Bear Lake, Sunrise provides a tranquil sanctuary where you can truly relax and enjoy the sounds of nature. The campground is located at a higher elevation, which means it often enjoys a cooler temperature than the valley below, making it a perfect spot to beat the heat on a warm summer day. It's a place that caters to both tent campers and RVs, with a variety of sites that offer a sense of privacy and seclusion. The beautiful mixed-growth conifer and aspen forest that covers the site provides a generous amount of shade, a valuable commodity in Utah's sunny climate. With a focus on providing a well-maintained and clean environment, Sunrise Campground is an excellent choice for a family getaway or a quiet trip to reconnect with the outdoors.
Sunrise Campground is located at Sunrise Campground, FR102, Garden City, UT 84028, USA. It is situated approximately 6 miles west of Garden City and Bear Lake, placing it at an elevation of 7,800 feet. Its location offers a unique perspective of the Bear Lake area, providing beautiful mountain scenery while still being a short drive from the lake's recreational opportunities. Accessibility to the campground is typically via a forest road off of Highway 89. While the road is generally well-maintained and paved, visitors should be aware of the mountainous terrain. The campground's location near Bear Lake Summit is a significant advantage, as it offers breathtaking views of the lake from a nearby lookout point. This accessibility allows campers to enjoy the best of both worlds: the peace and quiet of a mountain campground and the vibrant activities of Bear Lake. The location is also perfect for accessing nearby trailheads, making it a convenient base for hiking enthusiasts.
Services Offered:
- Tent Sites: The campground provides well-maintained tent sites, some of which are very spacious and offer plenty of room for multiple tents and gear.
- RV Water Hookup: While the campground does not have full RV hookups, it does provide RV water hookups, which are a valuable amenity for travelers. It is important to note that you may need to fill your water tank rather than hook up directly to a spigot at your site.
- Public Restrooms: Clean and well-stocked public vault toilets are available for the convenience of all campers.
- Running Water: Drinking water is provided at the campground, which is a key feature that enhances the comfort of your stay.

- Picnic tables: Every site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, providing a designated area for meals and campfires.
Features and Highlights:
- Shaded and Private Sites: Unlike many campgrounds that lack tree cover, Sunrise is known for its abundant mixed-growth forest, which provides ample shade and a sense of privacy between sites.
- Beautiful Mountain Scenery: Located at a higher elevation, the campground offers a different kind of beauty than the lakeside parks. It is surrounded by lush forest and offers stunning views, especially from the nearby lookout point.
- Kid-Friendly Hikes: The campground is a great base for families, with access to kid-friendly hikes like the Limber Pine Trail, a one-mile loop that is perfect for a leisurely family walk.
- Wheelchair Accessible: The presence of a wheelchair-accessible parking lot ensures that the campground is welcoming to visitors with mobility challenges.
- Peaceful Atmosphere: With its quiet, wooded setting, Sunrise Campground is ideal for those seeking a break from the noise of more crowded vacation spots.
- Knowledgeable Camp Host: The campground often has a camp host on site, which is a great benefit. As some reviews mention, hosts can be very helpful and are committed to keeping the campground clean and well-maintained.
- Proximity to Bear Lake: Despite its mountain location, the campground is only a short drive from Bear Lake, allowing campers to easily enjoy a day of swimming, boating, or simply relaxing on the beach.

What is worth choosing Sunrise Campground?
For Utahns, choosing Sunrise Campground is a decision to prioritize peace and natural beauty over extensive amenities. What makes it a standout choice is its unique combination of a higher-elevation mountain setting and its convenient proximity to the vibrant Bear Lake area. It provides a sanctuary of cool, shaded privacy that is often hard to find at other campgrounds. The positive reviews highlighting the cleanliness of the facilities and the helpfulness of the camp host are strong indicators of the care and attention given to the property. While it is a "first come, first served" campground, the effort to secure a spot is well worth the reward of a spacious, private campsite. The presence of essential amenities like running water and public restrooms makes it a comfortable option for both tent and RV campers who are prepared to be mostly self-sufficient. The scenic beauty, with its towering aspens and pines, provides a beautiful backdrop for hiking and photography. It’s a perfect place to teach children about camping and to create lasting family memories. The fact that it is a dog-friendly campground is a huge plus for pet owners who want to bring their four-legged family members along. Ultimately, Sunrise Campground is worth choosing for its authentic, back-to-nature feel without sacrificing the convenience of being a short drive from one of Utah's most popular recreational lakes. It's a true escape that offers a peaceful and memorable camping experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Cara is a great host and so glad she was here. We had some issues and she helped right away and fixed it all up for us. Beautiful campground. We had spot 6 and it was roomy enough for 2 6-person tents if you needed. Lots of trees for shade and bathrooms are always clean and stocked. Firewood is available for purchase at the camp. We will be back I just don't like that it First come first serve. Very hard to get a spot that way. Some of these pictures people posted are not of the campground, but of the lookout that is nearby.
July 15 · Candice GreenThis is a beautiful campground, I didn't see trash and the fire pits were well-kept. I believe there is a camp host at this location.
July 03 · Keli GriffinOne bathroom was closed the entire time I was here but the upkeep of the campground was generally good. Lots of trees and spread out campsites made for nice distance and privacy. Am worried about the amount of trees that have been cut down over time.
July 09 · Sam YamOur second year in a row at this beautiful campground, so quiet and peaceful, shady yet sunshine peaking through, warm in the daytime and cool at night, perfect for campfires! The host, Ivan, last year was warm and friendly with us, we were nice to him! Our host this year is also very nice and helpful. The bathrooms are kept very clean, especially being put toilets! The views are magnificent if you walk/hike around at all!
July 22 · Susan MattinsonThis campground is great. It's very close to bear lake and the pricing is competitive. Camp grounds aren't too close together either.
