(I’m a volunteer google guide who made a special visit to this location to verify some details about the ongoing situation. Im local to the area and have knowledge of the location going back through several owners and multiple decades.)To clarify the situation in this location. This is a privately owned and operated business. This facility is not part of the state park that lies directly across the highway from it. It is very difficult for people to appreciate the difficulty caused by the presence of wild elk from the park. Or the liability that wild animals can introduce to a business.Business Insurance is very expensive and absolutely necessary. Those elk are wild animals that can hurt, maim and kill humans with little to no difficulty. They are not pets. They do not obey human verbal commands of any kind. It’s nearly impossible to effectively control wild elk.In addition to that is the difficulty of maintaining a great looking lawn when half a ton of herbivore uses it for a snack bin. During certain times of the year the elk are very sensitive to encroachment. When breeding season is near it is prudent for the owner to be very aggressive in their warnings to visitors and guests alike.Unfortunately the owners do not know you. They do not know if you truly understand how dangerous an adult male elk in rut can be. Because of this the owners are forced to assume that the people who stop on their property are not aware of the danger. This has led to unintended hurt feelings when the warning of real danger has been misinterpreted as overzealous territorial behavior of a property owner. The owners asked me to post an apology to those who have felt estranged by the harsh nature of their warnings. Please be understanding to their situation as business owners trying to make a living in today’s economy. - rollie nelson
